Hi everyone. Nice to meet you. My name is Takaii and I’ll be hopping on board to write for Random Curiosity! I never thought that I would get the opportunity to write for RandomC, but sometimes amazing things happen, right? I’m here to post my thoughts on whatever series I may be blogging, and listening to what you have to say down in the comments. I love reading comments and can’t wait to see what you guys have to say.

The Name's Takaii.

I was exposed to anime back in 2000, when Rurouni Kenshin and Outlaw Star were still the newest thing out in America. Once subtitled anime got more popular, I began watching just about anything I could get my hands on. Anyone remember streaming videos through Winamp? I was able to watch my first Japanese animated movie, Appleseed, off of it. Some of my old favorites that will never leave me are Mahoromatic and Love Hina, with Love Hina being the first anime I watched with the original Japanese voice actors and Mahoromatic introducing me to Ayako Kawasumi (voicing Mahoro, Saber, and Alice among many others). For anyone that watched the English dub, Mitsune’s voice was so bad that I vowed to always watch shows in their original language. And thus, the door to anime had been opened.

For series that are a little bit more current, my favorites from the past few years range from Clannad, Gurren Lagann, Lucky Star, to Toradora and Ookami. While I’m not the most well versed on all the different types of anime out there, I do have a very open mind when it comes to things I will watch. My favorite genres though are romantic comedies, slice of life shows, and those really, really GARR type of shows that get your adrenaline pumping (Gurren Lagann anyone?).

I also enjoy listening to music from anime, especially the OSTs. For the past few months, the most notable songs in my mind are Angel Beat’s Brave Song (GlDeMo Ver!) and Bakemonogatari’s 君の知らない物語 (Kimi No Shiranai Monogatari by Supercell). I’m very open to different types of music, and I would love to hear some of your song recommendations. (Anything Japanese is fine, it doesn’t have to be from an anime necessarily.) From the OST viewpoint, Maeda Jun‘s work on Angel Beats is what’s been on repeat for me while I study. It makes for really, really good studying music. Completely off topic, but I managed to get Eri Kitamura’s signature on Yui’s picture on the Thousand Enemies album (Eri Kitamura voices Yui). I know that she doesn’t sing it, but it feels right having her sign it.

On the writing aspect side of things, I tend to focus on the important events during an anime, while trying to still bring out the gist of what’s going on during the entire show. I’m not going to focus too much on summarizing, and express my opinions on the important points instead. I value any feedback you may have, and I hope that in turn I can entertain you guys to the best of my ability. I’m very, very excited to start writing for Random Curiosity and never thought that I’d be here writing an intro post for myself. I hope that I will be able to provide entertaining posts for you in the near future.

On that note, I hope I didn’t bore you too much, and here’s my formal introduction;
タカイイです。どうぞよろしくおねがいします。 (Takaii desu. Douzo yoroshiku onegaishimasu)
-Takaii

I’m still trying to get MyAnimeList setup, but I’m having trouble recalling everything I’ve ever watched. For what I’m blogging, I’m fairly sure I will be covering Bakuman and Yakumo.

  1. Welcome, i’m just glad to see you can properly introduce yourself in Japanese unlike the other new guy who literally butchered the language.

    頑張ってください。新人達には期待してます。

    1. I never could finish Tenchi Muyo, but I did enjoy the Christmas Dream Song.
For Pure Snow, I have this song and I enjoy it a lot. The piano intro is beautiful.
Flavor of Life is a great song too.
And I LOVE Do as Infinity. Little nostalgic since that one was from Inuyasha.

      Thanks for the links (:

      1. To be honest, i didn’t finish Tenchi Muyo’s spin offs either. The full thing really is a bit much but it was pretty big back then.

Do as infinity is back but since its not Dai writing the songs, unfortunately its lost much of its charm 🙁

Anyway, good luck and hang in there. Work, life and other priorities don’t always mesh well with blogging regularly

  5. lol another one! Best way I updated my uber long list on MAL was that I’ve kept a word doc of every anime I have and recalled what I’ve watched that wasn’t on the list. So then it was a matter of sitting at the computer for 4 hours one day a year later after making it I think and then punch everything in. Was tiring, but so worth it. Now everthing is so up to date :D!!
Good luck with the new posting ;< so lucky~ lol

  6. And slowly, Random Curiosity becomes the official anime newsletter of the Internet. Wish I could write for R.C. too. Guess you gotta be watching raws to make an entry. Welcome to R.C., Takaii. I look forward to your entries, though sadly, I don’t know anything about what you’ll be covering from this point.

    1. Thank you for the song suggestions!
Yes, I waited in the very, very long NIS America line to get her signature. Yui Horie was sitting right next to her too. It was pretty surreal.
I like Minori Chihara, but I didn’t enjoy Final Moratorium too much. The other three songs though, I enjoyed quite a bit. Especially 2 and 3. Orchestral Fantasia has some awesome instrumental parts and I like ~lover soul~ in general.

  14. I ran into the same issue with dubbing. XD; I can still stand to watch some shows dubbed in English, particularly the ones that aired on Adult Swim and Toonami, but most of the time the stuff kinda makes my ears bleed. Looking forward to your posts dude. :]

  15. Welcome onborad my friend.

I’m glad to hear you like Ayako Kawasumi-sama and being Love Hine your first watched anime on japanese was great (it was mine too).

And about MyAnimeList, take your time, it was hard to me too, but thanks to my anime list on Excel (I’ve one with my 6.7 TB collection) I was able to complete it.

    Nice to have you around

  16. Welcome to the staff!I will look forward to your posts and insight on the shows you will do. It’s always refreshing to have new blood in the place.

P.S What’s the name of that anime you have to the side? I am curious about it.

    Fading Moon
  17. Nice to meet you Takaii!

And even though its not that much of a coincidence, all those songs you like/listed are on my current playlist. Your viewpoint on music is basically the same as mine too.

Good Luck with blogging~ I can’t wait to see your reviews/summaries particularly on Bakuman.

LOL and I guess thanks for taking some of the load off of Divine.

  18. Clannad, Angel beats and Toradora you say! I love you already! lol, Glad to see you have the exact taste as me. I am looking forward to reading your blogs! Oh and Welcome to Random Curiosity! All the best.

  19. Congratulations Takaii~

Anyhow, after reading your interest in music, being a notable song by supercell, I’ve recently started writing a feature on them on my site (there are more parts I am looking to expand on.) If you are interested you can check the first part here: http://ac730.wordpress.com/2010/09/20/supercell-feature-part-1-ryos-journey/

Other than that, I suggest you keep following supercell’s recent releases, because since their ED for Bakemonogatari they’ve released 2 singles out and are very much worth checking out.

And good luck with your blogging endeavours!
