“For the Sake of Fighting! The Awakening Nozomi!”
Inaba works on recreating some of the destroyed regai, and he tells the regai Byakuya that they will be attacking the real world soon. The fake Byakuya, Kenpachi, and Hitsugaya travel through the Dangai, but fall into Urahara’s trap, who plans to freeze time to delay their arrival.
The remaining shinigami meet in Ichigo’s room as they discuss what to do. Nozomi states that she also wishes to fight, saying that she thinks her zanpakutou can counter Kageroza’s. She can’t remember its name though, and the other shinigami tell her that she can’t fight just yet. Ichigo, Rukia, Ishida, and Chad train with her in attempt to awaken her zanpakutou. Ikkaku tells her to stop, saying that she would just die, but Nozomi states that she is willing to die fighting, remdinging Ikkaku of his own words. The reigai begin to break out of the trap, and Nozomi presses on with her training with the others. Yumichika states that they need to use stronger reiatsu and attacks against her, and Nozomi agrees. Ichigo releases his bankai and attacks her with Getsuga Tenshou. She is suddenly able to remember the name of her zanpakutou, Arazomeshigure, and is able to absorb the attack and release her shikai.
The regai Kenpachi arrives in the world of the living, and Ikkaku fights him to buy time. Other reigai arrive as well, and the rest of the shinigami go to stop them. However Ikkaku is beaten back easily, and he decides to release his bankai. This is still unable to defeat Zaraki, but Nozomi shows up and using her power she is able to blast him away, impressing Ikkaku.
This was a pretty high adrenaline episode with non-stop action, and even the training scene was intense. Nozomi finally releases her shinigami powers and becomes less of a liability, but I still somewhat doubt that Nozomi was suddenly able to defeat someone on Kenpachi’s level, unless he was somehow taken by complete surprise. The preview seems to confirm the suspicion that he’s still alright. My guess is that her power can absorb the reaitsu of attacks then use the energy for herself (like Ukitake’s shikai), but it’s still unlikely that the power from one Getsuga Tenshou would be enough to kill Kepnachi. Regardless, she is much stronger now; stopping bankai-level Getsuga Tenshou, even from a weakened Ichigo, is no easy feat, and she has a pretty cool attack too.
It’s really too bad the shinigami don’t work together with Urahara though. He’s quite the schemer and seems to always be on top of things, and coordinating their efforts would probably make things a lot easier, since he tends to work from behind the scenes though. I wonder if Soul Society is still holding those false accusations against him from a hundred years back. It looks like Urahara not doing all that much this time around though, and we’re probably going to be in for another round of the usual shinigami vs reigai fights.
