「日常24」 (Nichijou 24)
“My Ordinary Life 24”

Tsu..tsu..tsundere Nano!?

After a few weeks of feeling a little weaker than usual, this week’s episode had me in stitches while feeling a little sympathetic for everyone since the same things have happened to me. I may not have chased a cat down an alleyway in hopes that it would talk back to me, but traversing over narrow ledges and jumping from shadow to shadow without touching the light have been some of my favorite pastimes.

It’s been quite a bit since we’ve touched on Mio’s feelings for Sasahara, and boy do I wish Yuuko would pick on Mio more often. I think I was as dumbfounded as her when Mio gave no response after hearing her crush might be getting hit on, but it was a welcome surprise when Yukko started stretching the truth to evoke a response from her — and by welcome surprise, I mean getting to see a tsundere Nano.

Not only were the regular skits good this week but both Helvetica Standard and Love Teki were both good in their own right. It’s pretty rare that a Helvetica Standard skit will make sense to me, and it’s even rarer when I laugh at them. But I have a great idea for the next time I make a promise to a friend! For Love Teki, it was amazing how they captured the honest feelings of high school kids in 30 seconds — something some shows can’t even do in an entire season.

I wasn’t terribly happy with Hakase this week, especially when she tried to bank off of Sakamoto’s cold. As young as she is and as many times as we’ve seen it, I still can’t get over it when Hakase tries to be so bold. However, it was nice to see Mio and Sasahara finally exchange more than just greetings with each other. Something about their straight faces toward ridiculous situations all the way to how stubborn they can be make them seem like they’re perfect for each other, doesn’t it?

  1. I had a problem with this episode. Sasahara. He’s decent enough as one of the multitude of gag characters, but I can’t handle an episode where 3/4 of the content involves the crushes two of the girls have on him.

There’s just nothing there to make it actually funny for me.

  2. Yeah, this was another laughing out loud episode. The so called “side characters” feel more like main characters now (that is if you can consider any character in this anime a main character). Two more episodes to go, and the skits get better and better. In this episode, I enjoyed Mio the most. Hakase always annoys me when she insists on her way, and this episode was no different. Would love to see more of the kendo skits. I suppose we might see some love rivalry coming up in the last two episodes.

  3. i never had anyone do a cold attack to me 🙁

i think sakamoto-san belongs to the science teacher ?
also.. sasahara might end up neither with mio or pink head, but maybe mio’s sister.

    and tsundere nano ftw~

  4. A very good episode! And a really very fast post again. 😀

This episode had me laughing most of the time. I really enjoyed the Sasahara x Misato and Sasahara x Mio skits. All these focus on pairings have really caught my attention. It’s as if they know what I really want.

It’s really good that shows like these have very strong side characters despite being really hit or miss type of comedy. One things for certain is that if a spin off was produced, most of these characters bring the show themselves.

Although, despite it’s cuteness. this particular skit just lost me. I let out a big lolwat expression. It’s very strange that it wasn’t even a Helvetica standard skit. Even the Helvetica Standard skit was pretty straight on.

In any case Nano’s(imaginary) tsundere behavior was really cute. Gotta love how Mio was imagining the whole thing.

Anyway… 2 episodes left.. The closing end of this series is really reminding me how I will miss this show so much.

  5. That blue-hair science teacher is the original owner of Sakamoto-san!
The “Sakamoto Pharmaceutics” paper box can be seen in her room!

Will she strip Nano-chan and Sakamoto-san away from Hakase?!
This show has some potential for a season 2!

  6. Sasahara is a ladies man!!

That vending machine trick is actually a prank.. It doesn’t work with all vending machine (I tried), but sometimes you can pull the cup and return it upside-down. I did it to a friend in HS who always use the school’s vending machine, needless to say he got mad >_>..

  7. TWO episodes left, and so many unresolved plot lines:

    1. How will the love triangle between Mio-chan, Misato-chan, and Sasahara play out?
    2. How will the Male literature teacher’s crush on the other teacher play out?
    3. Will the science teacher be able to capture Nano?
    4. Will the science teacher ever reunite with Sakamoto, and how would THAT look like?
    5. Will Nano finally get her screw off? (Mio and Mio’s sister BOTH met Nano, and Mio’s sister got her screw off once)
    6. HOW did Hakase designed Nano?
    7. What is the background / reason for the tension between the Principle and Vice Principle of the School?
    8. Will the son of the Daifuku family resolve his conflict with his father? and will he become a scientist?

    and countless more!

  8. I hope they’ll be setting up for an epic love triangle sketch between Mio, Misato and Sasahara.

Otherwise, I’m gonna be so disappointed after they have set up so many separate scenes between Mio x Sasahara and Misato x Sasahara respectively this week. Mio’s sister Yoshino could be the other link that leads these two lovebirds together.

Like Nakamura-sensei, I finally figured out that Nano actually has buttons on the back of her clothings (to accommodate her key screw).

Nakamura-sensei’s quest for Nano might just lead her to be reunited with Sakamoto.
