「学校間抗争!?一護と雨竜、共闘!」 (Gakkou kan kousou!? Ichigo to Uryuu, kyoutou!)
“A Dispute in School?! Ichigo and Uryuu, Fight Together!”

Summary:
Ishida and Ichigo beat up the punks at the gate to the school, and bicker about who’s business it is. However, Ichigo’s boss Ikumi shows up suddenly and hauls him off, solding him for ditching work. She puts Ichigo to work doing odd services for her shop Unagiya. However the man Ichigo helped previously shows up at the shop and requests a background check on Isshin. He then tells Ichigo that he knows nothing about his family.

Ichigo’s sister Karin also pays a visit to the Urahara shop to buy various spiritual goods. Urahara asks if everything with Ichigo has been the same, and she tells him that it’s best to keep things the way they are now. The man tells Ichigo to go to the Urahara shop, and he arrives just in time to see Karin leave. He then questions Ichigo about what he really knows about Urahara, and asks if he wants to protect his family. Ichigo requests his name, and he introduces himself as Kuugo Ginjou and hands Ichigo a black card that reads “welcome to the Xcution” before leaving.

Inoue and Ishida both sense a strange reiatsu around Ichigo, and both of them decide independently to visit Ichigo and ask him whether anything was wrong. Near Ichigo’s house, Ishida sees an unknown person reading a book and running at high speed. When Ishida gives chase however, the man suddenly attacks him and cuts him down.

Impressions:
I have to say it was pretty amusing seeing Ichigo and Ishida of them beating up low level delinquents like nobodies’ business while arguing with each other at the same time, especially how Ishida literally face-palmed a punk 10 meters into a pole. Ikumi and her son also make an appearance, but even now in the manga it’s unknown what role they will play in this arc, if any.

Things are quickly becoming more serious though as plot development starts to speed up. I didn’t realize how big Ginjou really was until this episode either and he really can be pretty intimidating. I’m glad to see that Ichigo doesn’t buy any of his coincidence bullshit though, and it’s pretty obvious Ginjou is trying to send him some subtle messages. Honestly, it seems like everyone is after Ichigo for one reason or another, and the poor guy can’t even graduate from high school properly. Ishida is out of commission early in the arc again as well, and because of that, Ichigo will finally be paying a visit to the “Xcution” by the next episode.

  1. Well, on the interesting note, it seems that Ikumi looks very nice when she is with her apron. It’s a shame she is already married, I think, otherwise she would make a great eddition to Ichigo’s harem.

    1. Lets see, Ichigo’s harem in cannon.

Rukia, Orihmie, Yoruichi, Riruki (spelling?), Rangiku, Adult Neil, Both Yuzu & Karin (Disturbing), and finally Ikumi.

      I may be missing more.

  2. I think its a given Ikumi will play bigger role. Her whole behavior during GInjou’s visit both in manga and anime give that clear impression.

What role ? yep no one knows. The arc is not finished even in manga and due to the VERY different nature of this arc(when compared to SS or HM, where you had more of fight after fight type of storytelling, this is more like straight up suspense/mystery stuff, with pieces of puzzle slowly being hinted and given to reader). a lot of things are a complete mystery for now.

  3. The last part was incredibly well done. Great atmossphere when Ishida is attacked during dusk, and Ichigo hears the sirens from his dark room. I love how Kubo did this in the manga (the next chapters all have this eerie ambience) and I’m glad the anime adapted this well enough.

    1. This whole arc is nothing more but plot, plot and plot. And even now in the manga the entirety of plot is still to be revealed but this arc has connections and implications with a lot of shit that is important 🙂
