「代行証の力、一護の“誇り”!」 ( Daikoushou no Chikara, Ichigo no “hokori”! )
“Power of the Substitute Badge, Ichigo’s ‘Pride’!”

Summary:
Yuzu and Karin worry about what Ichigo is up to as he begins working with the Xcution to regain his powers. At their hideout, Riruka brings out a dollhouse, saying that he will train inside. She explains that her fullbring allows her to move people or things into objects she loves. She then shrinks Ichigo and sends him into the dollhouse and has him fight a stuffed pig, telling him to use fullbring. Ichigo tries to think of an object he has a strong attachment to, and Chad tells him to use his substitute shinigami pass.

However, the pig transforms into a immense beast, and Giriko reveals that he had set up the conditions of the box with his fullbring, Time Tells No Lies, such that the entities inside must survive for 30 minutes before coming out. If the conditions are violated, everything will be burned away, and not even Giriko can change the conditions once set. Chad tells Ichigo to remember the pride he holds with combat pass, and Ichigo is able to successfully manifest a four-bladed weapon with it.

Impressions:
Giriko seems a little crazy (in a more dangerous way than Riruka), and this makes for a volatile mix with the ability to manipulate the god of time. He seems like a very composed guy with his butler outfit and personality, but I question his thought pattern considering he set such strict conditions for Ichigo with full awareness of the deadliness of his power. It really didn’t seem necessary. On the other hand, Ichigo’s training always seems to be a life and death matter, and so far it has worked out for him. Threatening him tends to force things out (as long as it doesn’t kill him), and it makes the story more exciting perhaps.

I agree with Ichigo however that there’s seemingly no link between training fullbring powers and regaining shinigami powers, and the Xcution isn’t telling him why. In general, I feel that their powers aren’t very well thought out, and this arc is bringing up more questions than it answers, rather than developing what we already have. Admittedly, it is cooler seeing the fights animated (even in training) as it’s often more clear about what’s going on, as opposed to still art where the flurry of attacks and action lines can make things confusing.

Note: The swastika on Ichigo’s hilt (the character 卍) has nothing to do with Nazism, so please lay off on making such comments.

  1. I find it rather humorous that Ichigo’s 卍 was turned into a 田 for animation. I didn’t think the manji held any stigma in Japan, but maybe they’re looking forward to when it’s exported.

      1. Actually, you can see it in the opening when he’s using it to block and it doesn’t look like it’s different from the manga version. The blades are just extended slightly, so I’m okay with it.

  2. I wouldn’t try to reason there. Knowing the inconsistency in Bleach’s censorship, they might just leave it in in the next episode. Sometimes it’s like different censors work on different episodes.

  3. I find it so hard to believe that Kubo actually did a good job for once creating a nice Tsunidere to add to Ichigo harem.

I am getting amused though on why and how Ginjo recruited Chad, or how the big guy hasn’t been in school, what has the big ogre been doing.

I am though curious on how far Riruka’s def of cute extends to. I’m wonder if Kon is going to be lucky. AND WHERE IS KON?

It should be interesting to note that Ishida may get a chance to marry a HOT nurse in his Dad’s hospital. Heh heh, Ichigo isn’t the only one getting his own harem, I would like to see if Ishida ever gets a girl for once.

    1. In the ED, you see a shot of a lion plushie sitting on the shelf. …. I think it’s safe to say that when Ichigo returned to his home without his powers, the soul candy containing Kon was no longer needed.
