「行かないで、先輩。」 (Ikanaide, Senpai.)
“Don’t Leave, Senpai.”

No matter how much it hurts, no matter how much it lessens the chance of them being with their beloved, these six friends always do what is best for one another. If nothing else, I think that’s why this show is amazing. Friendship, through thick and thin, no matter how weak or hopeless each of them are alone. A beautiful love story. A beautiful friendship story. I mentioned this yesterday in regards to Rinne no Lagrange, but it’s a rare story that can make nearly all (or really, in this case absolutely all) of its characters likeable. Generally there’s a bad guy, a particular story’s fictional version of Satan or Hitler or whoever your go-to bad guy is. Yet this show manages to make every character not only likeable, but someone that we all want to root for…which causes certain problems, given the love situation.

The central conflict in this episode centered around Ichika’s sister, Takatsuki Emika (Horie Yui). Having rented the fastest ship she could find, she got to Earth ahead of the search party and found Ichika alive and happy. I have to say that the writers went to great lengths to make it difficult for Ichika to stay. Every possible way out that the “normal” characters could think of (normal here being defined as all characters who are not the amazing Remon-sempai) was quickly shot down. Points go to Kaito for quickly suggesting that he go into space with Ichika. This was one of the resolutions that many people have mentioned in the comments, especially last episode, so quickly dealing with it prevented anal retentive bastards (like me!) from having to scream at the screen “Why didn’t you suggest that!!” They kept whittling down the ways out, until very few remained.

But as has happened so many times before in this series, it wasn’t events that conspired to force the characters to act – it was the characters themselves that did that. And it’s not just Mio, Tetsuro, and Kanna who did this…Ichika’s onee-san did as well. I love this. It’s not that she went out of her way to help Ichika stay, but when she was presented with a way – thanks to the amazing Remon-sempai – she took it. She’s a good onee-san, and a character which could have easily been hated avoided that. And somehow, that fits this story best. Throughout, it hasn’t been other people that have pushed the protagonists. It has always been themselves, and the faceless forces of love, time, and the machines of the search party that propelled them forward. Hate has no place in Ano Natsu. There is only love, and striving to move forward without regrets.

I think now is a good time to briefly reflect on how important Remon-sempai is to this story. For most of this show, she has been the quintessential troll, the character who seemingly did whatever she wanted in order to get some lulz (and good footage). But especially since episode 9, she has been far more than that. First she told off Kaito when he was being a bitch, and got him moving forward. Now, it is her that gave the characters a chance at happiness. I don’t know why she does what she does – perhaps it is just for the movie, which she is presumably going to license to Hollywood for millions of dollars – but she is pushing forward the story more than any other character. I know, as a wannabe storyteller, that this is why she is in the show, but she fits into her role so well that I cannot help hate the writers for it. I’m a sucker for a character well designed, and a story well told. What can I say, it’s a weakness of mine.

And then there was the final few scenes, the search for Ichika’s special place, and the chase. When Mio found the place that wasn’t on Ichika’s people’s maps, my heart leapt – which was the perfect time for the search part to arrive, as indeed it did. Rinon’s teleporting eing disabled was obvious, as was the chase that followed. What wasn’t obvious was that Remon-sempai would show up (covered that in the last paragraph), and that Tetsuro and Mio would separate from the ground and lead the drones away. But more than that, it was Tetsuro asking Mio if she would like to go to the movies with him that was so sweet. Is Tetsuro turning towards Mio?? As a diehard Mio shipper, I hope so…but considering Tetsuro’s character, I think he’s just giving Mio a chance, so that he can see whether she’s the girl for him, or whether he should keep chasing after Kanna. I hope we’ll find out the answer.

Over all, what I got from this episode is that we’re being set up for a Happy End. And by that, I mean an Ichika x Kaito end. It’s possible that this won’t happen, of course – and the fact that his is a possibility fills me with ice-cold dread – but to me all the signs point towards it. To give us this glimmer of hope and then cruelly dash it would be more than the fanbase could bear. This is not a Nia moment (side note: I will take any excuse I can to refer to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, no matter how flimsy), where the battle is won and only then does it turn bittersweet. For the battle to be won at all, Ichika and Kaito must stay together, or else the touching confessions that Mio, Tetsuro, and Kanna will be invalidated when the dynamic so seismically changes.

…but what if I’m wrong? The storyteller in me, the one who would like to be holding the pen and thinking “Hurm…what should happen next?” says that a Happy End, after some more suitibly harrowing strife, if what will happen next. But the emotional viewer, the guy who was pulled into the chase when the ED started playing, and who is looking forward to the climax which, by Remon-sempai’s admission, was still coming…that person is unsure. Go to the comments if you have a thought one way or the other, but for me, when next Monday comes around, I will be counting down the minutes until this episode is released. The van slid with something under 10 kilometers still to go. Those last few kilometers will mean everything to the lives of these characters, these characters who I’ve come to love and feel for so much. Fight on Kaito, Ichika, Kanna, Tetsuo, Mio, and Remon-sempai. Fight on, and show me the results of your struggle next week. I look forward to seeing your victory. I hope. Ohhh man, I sooo hope.

tl;dr: @StiltsOutLoud – A beautiful love story. A beautiful friendship story. #AnoNatsu is not groundbreaking, but it’s a story we all would like to live. One more.

Random thoughts:

  • Why are Ichika and her onee-san’s names (both first and last) Japanese? It’s one of those things we’re probably supposed to gloss over, but I feel like they should have made at least their last names a little bit weird. Hell, the only character whose name isn’t easily pronouncable by Japanese people is Remon-sempai, if they go ahead and try to say it like the fruit. Probably best not to think about this too much.
  • Now this show knows how to use an ED properly. Hearing Yanagi Nagi’s “Vidro Moyō” play as the action climbed the last few steps to this week’s conclusion…why, it’s like watching Toradora all over again. And anything that reminds me of Toradora is automatically getting high marks. Can’t wait for next week. Can’t wait.

  1. I have not laughed so hard since the ending a Blood C. This show was pretty good despite the fact Kiato is retarded and Ichika is as bland as they come, but please really. Giant robot arms on top of vans, scooters jumping out of a van going at top seed then said scooter going through a steel guard rail and still being about to run, magic; I know.
Let’s not even get started on how one sided this show is, Kiato has done nothing but hurt people yet everyone still wants to help him while he’s like “lol phuck you” the whole story.
I was personally hoping for for a murder, suicide ending, but alas… Like I said it was still a good show, just really funny where it’s not trying to be.

    1. Dat hate… Having a bad day, bro? I did chuckle a little in disbelief at the scooter scene, but it reminded me of blockbuster movies. The kind that Kaito and company are attempting to emulate with their film project and wind up living it out in the real world. Besides that, the characters seem real, not retarded. Remon is probably a secret agent of some kind, accounting for the arm. And the cast are really good friends, which happens to be 80% of the show’s charm. I don’t know if you’re trolling or being extremely jaded, but I’d like to believe this kind of thing happens. Not the aliens and all, but love stories of this caliber, with altruism throughout. Sometimes people aren’t selfish, and the show isn’t going to ruin that moral with a murder/suicide bloodbath at the end.

      Enmire
      1. You have to admit a murder/suicide ending would be funny. It’s not that I hate the show, I just hate kiato. He has done essentially nothing the whole series to benefit anyone other than himself while all the other characters try to help each other. Really; try to name something positive kiato has done. Friendship goes both ways, and seems that kiato only cares about himself.
I’m not trying to troll anyone nor am I jaded. I’m just being analytical and pointing out what other people don’t want to. Sure the show is good but Kiato is just an awful person in general

        Seven
      2. Kaito is actually a really good guy the way I see it. He basically jumped off a cliff because all he could see was the girl he loved might be in danger (still pausing to let Kanna have the flashlight), being sure of his feelings and not leading Kanna/beach girl on/creating misunderstandings and he expressed his desire to straight up be the one to tell Kanna he and Ichica were officially dating when that happened and sort it our ‘properly’. In this ep he immediately asked if he could go with her even though that would obviously mean LEAVING EARTH.Although it might kind of seem that way because his (Kaito) is the only reciprocated love so far, all these characters are quite altruistic+personal growth+honesty= better very lovable HUMAN characters.

        SlushiZ
      3. We can argue semantics if you want, but facts stand that Kiato is a tool. He helps Ichika because he is trying to make her like him, thus helping himself. The problem is that there are no misunderstanding with anyone but kiato and Ichika. While everyone else could see what was going on he was stuck up with “hur der how make Ichika like me”.
Only after he had crushed everyone else’s feelings does he try to make things right with Kanna by talking out, but he thought it would be better to stay home with Ichika rather than sort it out right away (he was going to put it off till the next day). Sure I’ll give you all the other characters have human faults but Kiato alone is being retarded.

    2. Seven- I have a sneaking suspicion that there are two things going on-

You are a closet lover of Kaito and Ichika. Since they’re so integral to the story that’s gotta be the case. Although the only other explanation is that you’re a total M. As one of the consistent earliest posters it looks like you’re looking forward to each episode.

The second thing- I bet you were ready with your comment to totally troll. Post goes up- boom- instant troll/fun. Not that it’s a bad thing – it’s actually good comic relief between you and Moondoggie.

Can we call you Seven Remons?

      BananaFurikake (was Kmainichi)
      1. Sure bro, you can call me what ever you want. I’ve been called a lot worse.
But of course I look forward to the post, it’s fun being the outlier, having to defend your point with out flaw, and doing it against multiple people. It’s not trolling if I make vaild points that can not be opinion based.
Really though, this is the only thing I can argue. The whole show is based around how stupid kiato is, and how he messes things up. The show is very cut and dry, no hidden meaning behind anything. So it’s really easy to pick out a point and make a solid argument for it with facts backing it.
I agree Moondoggie is pretty funny. He tries so hard to look smart.

        Seven
      2. Seven Remons- the devil’s advocate.

Well- it appears that the posts are meant to try to create a reaction. Which it does. In the whole scheme of things it’s not a biggie since I actually enjoy it.

So does your answer mean you are a masochist watching Kaito and Ichika? 😛

        BananaFurikake
      3. I sleep like eight hours or so every few days. I’m also a complete phone whore, I post here from my droid while in class all the time to make it look like I’m always testing so I look cool.
Oh and I’ve watched Dragon Crisis start to finish, this is a joke.

        Seven
      4. It’s no that I’m young it’s that I can only sleep when I’m really bored. Between school, my internship, sports, and well… this I don’t have a lot of free time to try and go to sleep. Like honestly 20 is pretty old, I’m not even a teenager anymore.

        Seven
      5. Meh what can you do, life goes on. There will always be something to do.
More importantly back to the topic at hand; How stupid Kiato is. Although I could be wrong he did magically know to polite that space jet ski out of the blue.

        Seven
    3. Hate the fact that I had to leave for work halfway through writing this long wall of text (especially for you, Seven. I’m sure you enjoy reading them. =D), and had to continue it after work, so it might be a little irrelevant now, but I’m just gonna post this anyway.

Indeed, that’s the magic of non-reality for you. I won’t go to the extent of bashing the characters of Ichika and Kaito (like someone does), but they weren’t exactly characters I liked. My image of them didn’t improve one bit from this episode.

One-sided? How about all the interaction between Kanna, Tetsurou and Mio? Unless you weren’t paying attention to them at all. Sure, the story focused on Ichika and Kaito, and the three sad souls were left to pick up what remained of their messed-up romances whilst somehow helping the lovebirds grow closer together. HOWEVER, as a result, we did see Mio change from a shy, reclusive girl into a confident and graceful woman; we saw her gain the strength to profess her love for Tetsurou; we saw Tetsurou come to terms with himself and, like Mio, found it in him to say what he had to say to Kanna, instead of always beating around the bush; we saw Kanna struggle to pick herself up after acknowledging her loss to Ichika.

And Kaito. As much as I’d like to poke fun at his character, I must defend him at this point because you’ve obviously got something against him. Has he hurt the people around him? Yes, I can’t deny that. He’s made some pretty silly decisions as well as a couple of comments that pissed me off.

THAT SAID, I can conclude after the past 11 episodes, that what he is, is simply put, simple. He’s naive. Straightforward. Kinda narrow-minded in that sense. If he had a meme, it would be Derp. Right from the start, he’s only had eyes for Ichika, and got completely lost in her, as if the only image he could see was Ichika in front of him. He was too distracted by her that he had no chance of noticing anything else: Kanna’s feelings, Tetsurou’s intentions, Mio’s concerns etc.. Did it mean that he was taking advantage of the people around him? Definitely not! He was merely ignorant of the fact that people around him were getting hurt because of him. Social environment awareness level -3.

More importantly, why look at Kaito when you can look at the three of them so earnestly supporting him, Ichika and each other? I thought that that was this series’ redeeming characteristic, so I focused on those scenes. Put it this way: Kaito and Ichika were doing the receiving, while the sad trio were doing the giving, and we all know that the satisfaction comes from the giving.

And you’ve had a little too much School Days for your own good.

Just wanted to add that Remon-sempai looked strangely attractive this episode. I mean REALLY attractive. Hmmm… Either way, she pulled out a lot of surprises this episode, and I’m not too sure why, but I now have a lot of respect for her.

      Junglepenguin
      1. Not to be mean but 83% of that wall was worthless and had no real relevance to anything. Also I kind of missed the part where you defended him, you really only insulted him more. Ignorance has never been an acceptable for anything.
The joy of giving is cool and all but you are using it out of context. In this case it’s kind of like giving a four year old an ice cream cone and then kicking you in the shin. Sure if kiato and Ichika took their “kindness” and accepted it gracefully, it would have been fine but they were more like “phuck you guys” then made out. Real friend ship is based on MUTUAL respect

        Seven
      2. I know. Again, I just like to write. Can’t help but blabber off when I get into the mood.

I defended Kaito by saying that he’s not as bad of a person as you make him out to be. He doesn’t secretly go “Lol, Tetsurou’s such a loser” or “Dammit, Kanna’s irritating” or stuff like that. Now, THAT’S “lol phuck you”. As mentioned, he’s simply a little ignorant of the situation around him.

And really? A little ignorance is acceptable. A world without tolerance for ignorance would be one far more unforgiving than the one we’re living in now. And I was hoping you’d get my point: That it was never about Kaito being whatever you believe he is, but it was about the amazing friends he had, and the kind of relationships they had with each other. You’re implying that a person can’t care for another person as a friend if that person doesn’t show equal respect for the care he/she has been given. That’s pretty narrow-minded thinking.

And lastly, am I really using it out of context? Do you really give a 4-year-old kid an ice-cream just so you can hear him say “Thanks, mister!”? Kanna, Tetsurou and Mio did all that they did because they loved each other so much, as lovers and as friends, that they couldn’t help but want each others’ happiness. As much as they deserved it, there was no need for them to receive any form of thanks from Kaito and Ichika. They were all just glad to be friends who were able to help each other out. Kanna was happy as long as Kaito was happy, Tetsurou was happy if Kanna was happy and Mio was happy if Tetsurou was happy. That’s all there is to it.

        Junglepenguin
      3. Ok I think you missed the point of the ice cream cone analogy, but what ever it’s not important. If your friends can’t respect you, who can? I want to try and list me at least two things Kiato did over the course of the show that benefited someone other than himself trhat does not involve Ichika. Than I want you to try the same for all the other characters.
On top of that he’s not just a ‘little’ ignorant, he is out right oblivious of everything. He even got a huge hint as to what was going on when testrou told him Kanna liked him. Now everyone else knew that Testuorosdfhs liked Kanna, so anyone with a brain stem could realize that choosing to ignore that little tid bit of information would cause problems. There is not one problem in this show that can’t be blamed on Kiato in some way.

        Seven
      4. I could twist that question(?) around and ask to list down things that Kanna did that helped others out and that didn’t revolve around Kaito. Likewise for Tetsurou and Mio. I can’t be any clearer about my point: That you should be focusing on what good friends Kanna, Tetsurou and Mio are, not how bad of a friend Kaito is.

*Sigh* I don’t have the energy and willpower to defend Kaito to that extent, and I do share your sentiments about him actually. I did point out his choice of blatently ignoring the fact about Kanna that Tetsurou shared with him in another Ano Natsu discussion somewhere else, and yes, I thought it was unbecoming of him. He did have the opportunity to respond to that, but he allowed Kanna’s feelings to simmer while he went off courting Ichika. I wouldn’t say that he caused ALL the problems, but I would say he could have done a good number of things to prevent his friends around him from getting hurt. Fine, he IS oblivious, I’ll agree with you on that.

        Junglepenguin
      5. Sure you could turn it around, but you can’t really make it not revolve around kiato, because he is the focus of the show. Though even if you did you could still point out the major one, where Kanna flat out confronted Ichika and told her to go confess to Kiato. The reason I said to exclude Ichika is because by doing things for her he is making himself happy in the process. The same can not be said for everyone else because they are suffering for the choices they have to make while Kiato does not.

        Seven
      6. Sadly, yes, Kaito IS the main protagonist, and it can’t be helped that everything revolves around him (unless you had some connections with the animation company in charge of Ano Natsu…).

And yes, the rest are suffering because of some choices that Kaito made. I’d like to point two things out though:

        1. Things might not have turned out any better if Kaito had decided to do things a little differently. He may have decided to put Kanna first, and confront her about her love for him. That might not have changed the kind of emotions Kanna would experience.

        2. Were the rest really unhappy because of the suffering that resulted from Kaito’s actions? Didn’t they choose to do all that they did because they were happy just to see each other happy? Take a look at it from a different angle and you’ll realize that they had chosen the current outcome, knowing the kind of suffering they’ve have to face.

        Junglepenguin
      7. Hey, I honestly thought that might have happened when the rescue pod first popped up: Ichika goes back to alien pals, they blow Earth up, Kaito finds a hidden mobile bipedal vehicle in the mountainside, he goes berserk and blows aliens up, Kaito and Ichika find themselves naked in some inter-dimensional space, more shit blows up and finally, Kaito saves the Earth. I shall call it MS Gundam Natsu-rei.

And I’d like to mention that suffering =/= unhappiness. A person can be in pain and still be happy (and I’m not talking about masochism).

        Junglepenguin
    4. Giant robot arms on top of vans, scooters jumping out of a van going at top seed then said scooter going through a steel guard rail and still being about to run, magic; I know.

It’s funny how you found those events to be more out of place than the fact of a red haired ALIEN with teleporting abilities and the intelligence of a K-On character visiting earth in fucking EPISODE 1 with the most random reason ever. Do we even need to mention the eternal 17yo girl? Magic indeed.

Anyway, 6/10 trolling. You should try honing your writing at a more appropriate place like /a/. Doing it at a blog like RandomC is like child’s play. Or too soon to grow up?, kid.

      1. Aww, Someone’s mad. Sure you can say I’m trolling but well all know that you just don’t like what I have to say because you don’t agree. Every comment begets a reaction, deal with it. you don’t need to get up set.
And I’ve never once post on 4chan, I refuse to cross that line of nerdyness. The same reason I refuse to watch fury animes, there are just some thresholds you can’t come back from.

        Seven
    5. I know what you mean Seven. Kaito is a selfish character, he never help any of his friends through trouble. Being ignorant is just as good being selfish, the difference is that you just never make it obvious and evil. If you’re really friends with someone, you should notice a thing or two that bothers people close around you, and try help other. Even in this episode he just straight out said that he’s going to space with Ichika. Does he even think about the consequences? What his sister going to feels if she come back home and Tetsurou said that “Kaito in space Sis. Sorry”. Thanks to the galactic law that never happened.

      Jonz
  2. I knew things were hinting towards Tetsurou x Mio and as a Kanna fan I am a bit disappointed but she’s a strong character XD Her character doesn’t need her one-sided love to be fulfilled in order to look complete 😛

And I really can’t wait for next week. Things are getting intense. I agree with what you said about how they used the ED music.

    Corn
    1. Agent R: ‘All right, Kaito-kun, there was no alien. The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.’

      puyogirl
    2. It’s very likely the scene in Ep 10 where Remon says she’s a MIB agent and Kanna + Mio disagree, might be the only honest statement Remon’s actually made about herself. 🙂

It would explain a lot. Like why she has access to Alien tech.

      SQA
    3. No, that is obviously a fake license. Being part of the MIB, Remon would not have any form of identification or way of tracing her.

She has no identifying marks of any kind. She does not stand out in any way. Her entire image was crafted to leave no lasting memory with anyone you encounter. She is a rumor, recognizable only as deja vu and dismissed just as quickly. She does not exist. She was never even born. Anonymity is her name. Silence her native tongue. She is no longer part of the system. She is above the system. Over it. Beyond it. She is “them.” She is “they.” She is the Men in Black.

*Remon takes out a neuralizer and flashes it*

      That’s Agent R for you. Ufufufufu…

  3. Ichika x Kaito…

I’ve wondered through the series if Kaito would leave Earth and return with Ichika.
But this episode has made a couple of things clear: Kaito wasn’t initially thinking of
returning with Ichika and Ichika wasn’t thinking of returning (buy her refusal to leave and
by his suggesting to her sister that he return). So again, the writers have done an
amazing job by not revealing the end even at the last episode before the end!

Their quest is to change the designation of the planet to something other than ‘F’ by finding
this spot and looking for evidence of a previous visit – which make both possibilities legal
she can stay or he can leave! Amazing!

This surprised me because I thought the plot would turn to Ichika’s sister helping Ichika by
faking Ichika’s death to the authorities thus allowing Ichika to remain on Earth (or something
    like that). Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!!

    mac65
    1. It’s a interesting loophole that Remon found. BUT we don’t actually know what that means yet. They never said ichika could stay if the planet designation changed from an F to whatever. They also never said that Kaito could leave the planet. Maybe it allows for visitations? Wouldn’t that tie in with the title? There is also the story of Tanabata, where Orihime and Hikoboshi are star crossed lovers who could only meet once a year. So it will be interesting to see the final episode. Also hoping there will be an OVA or bonus episode which will show the movie they have been making.

      bertman4
      1. Cool. I don’t know the precise translation of the title あの夏で待ってる, and
I think Google doesn’t do it Justice (as such is any title in any language).

Remon’s been pretty on the mark so far, and I can’t imagine a tragic end after
all of this. But I have to admit, the overturned van at the end has me on edge
        for the final episode…

        mac65
      1. It’s nice to know that I don’t even have to have the intention of trolling people and I still can. I hear defending the non social norm point is trolling, lol. You guys would suck at politics, I would know; I’m a biochem major.

        Seven
    1. Expect is this weekend. We got started on it late because we didn’t know Divine wasn’t going to be doing it solo until a full month after he would have normally started working on it. Thus, we’re a bit behind. It’ll come out soon, and we’ll get setup better for next season!

Also, coffee ice cream is yucky. Then again, I don’t like coffee, so maybe I’m prejudiced.

      Stilts
      1. Might I suggest have the newbies do one or two anime each?

Anyway how many anime are there next season? I know there’s plenty of nice stuff, but the exact number escapes me.

        The Moondoggie
      2. Well, now that they have 13 bloggers on one site, I’m sure they could probably split all the shows to one or two shows per person. We’ll likely get a better idea of who is or isn’t going to blog what in about a week or two, when the season ends.

        Da5id
      3. Hi Stilts, the excessive trolling and counter-trolling is getting out of hand here. As much as I believe in free speech and democracy, its high time there is a degree of moderation required on the comments section.

Name calling and humiliating others are just plain idiotic and if the commenters here cannot behave themselves, discipline should be met out. This includes both sides of the troll fence.

        john
      4. Hi Kusabi. As mentioned, Stilts is not happy with the trolling. However voicing a concern and actually doing something about it, is totally different.

I know its not up to me, but if moderation and well-shaped arguments are thrown out the window, then enforcement should step in and de-escalate the matter.

Its just my opinion and the RC team can approve/dis-approve this idea. I just want to bring some sensibility back to my good ol’ RC.

        john
      5. Lol, Enforce what? me arguing a point that is not “aww this show is so good, hug, kisses and butterflies”. All I started was an argument of how the characters are not as good as people make them out to be. But apparently anything that’s not positive here is trolling lol.
good luck enforcing a public site though

      6. Blah blah blah, stop bitching. If you think the guy is trolling just ignore him. He wants attention, one you are giving him.

Anyway Stilts, about the Spring preview, thanks for the heads up I was curious too, RC’s previews are always one of the better ones.

    2. Hi Seven. Let me de-escalate this matter. 1st off, I appreciate your input for this show. Initially you have your valid points and even if it is negative, I believe you can’t gauge a positive without the minus. So kudos to you. You made your point clear.

My gist is that being drawn into a mud-slinging battle (I wouldn’t say the other parties are correct), is so absurd bordering on pettiness and the end results are a wall of text humiliating each other.

I am not trying to start an argument with you nor will continue with this if you wish to do so. Lets just keep this civil and we can discuss this show with manners.

      Thanks.

    1. One of the better romance series. Last season I gave that to Mashiro-iro Symphony for being one of the more atypical romance anime series and this season it is Ano Natsu de Matteru,.. 2 straight season with rather good romance shows.

      1. “Last season I gave that to Mashiro-iro Symphony for being one of the more atypical romance anime series and this season it is Ano Natsu de Matteru,.. 2 straight season with rather good romance shows.”

I wholeheartedly agree with you if I haven’t watched Shuffle!, the finale of Shuffle! and Mashiro is too similar.

        Kusabi
      2. Shuffle! is an all time classic. One of the very best out there, Right at the top with Clannad. Personally I keep a copy of it on a flash drive and carry it around with me just in case.

      1. Yeah, considering the (female) childhood friend is usually one of the closest relationships the male lead will have besides his own family, so they already know a lot about that person from years of presumably constant interaction and vice-versa. Up next would be Asa, the close school friend (like Kaoru would be in Amagami SS as opposed to Rihoko, the childhood friend).

While Sia and Nerine are cute, they only met Rin ONCE and that was when they were still young kids and solely by chance. (Technically, Nerine NEVER met Rin before at all though.)

    1. The best reference is likely ep 25 of Toradora, actually. Which was done by the same director. 🙂

And, yes, it’s obviously and blatantly intentional. Though I have a heavy feeling the answer is going to be “well, it did nothing, but it let me film Ichika having a wedding on the run”. 🙂

  4. Screw it-

Remon, Kanna, Mio, Tetsuro, Kaito, Ichika FTW! All of ya!

Friendship, through thick and thin, no matter how weak or hopeless each of them are alone. A beautiful love story.

Call me happy as a clam.

  5. If only Ichika’s ‘onee-chan’ had been an ‘oni-chan’ instead… then our Girl C Kanna could have captured his heart and we’d have a shipping for everyone and extra person in the desperate race against the intergalactic league. Although honestly that level of convenience would have probably annoyed me.I just love all these characters sooo much, can’t stand to see anyone hurt or the thought that they’ll leave me next week :'(

  6. Kaito’s wistful monologues throughout the show give me vibes for everything BUT a happy ending. For me it really looks like a(n) (un)healthy dose of “realistic” you can’t always get what you want.

But then again, all the Onegai series had happy endings. Why change it now?

    Access
    1. True. It could be that I’m just playing into the writer’s hands by expecting the happy ending, which will make it a whammy when the bittersweet one comes. Though then again, maybe its the monologues that are the red herrings here! It’s probably best to not try to guess the minds of the writers…but it’s so fun!!

      Stilts
  7. Anyone tried to google map where is the location that is 3hours away from their place? Apparently Lake Kizaki is about 3h40mins from Komoro which is a possible site they were searching for.

  8. My gods… cliffhangers EVERYWHERE!!! XD

I really liked Ichika’s sister. She wasn’t the stuck-up sister that looks down on everyone or the alien that can’t possibly see happiness on a less developed planet, so that immediately made me happy. I actually had to rewind a few times when I realized she was actually listening to Ichika and Kaito cause I just couldn’t believe it O.o

Remon… I won’t say that this show would’ve been bad without Remon; it just wouldn’t have been nearly as good. From 1 – 10, she’s the difference between a 6 and a 9 for the overall show. Still would love to know hwat her deal is, but she’s so awesome it doesn’t even matter if we never know… Okay, I lied, please tell us!! XD

I really hope this doesn’t end unresolved with Ichika going back to her planet to show her family whatever she finds at the lake, promising to come back, and Kaito waiting for her. Even if she comes back to Earth in the last five seconds I’d be happy, just don’t leave us hanging! Of course, I definitely agree that an ending where she leaves for good with an apology would be completely unacceptable, and in my opinion defeat the whole purpose of the show. NEED NEXT WEEK!!

    Aex
  9. Like others, this isn’t any groundbreaking show, but it is a lot of fun. The “waiting-for-the-train-wreck” aspect of it makes me want watch this more than a lot of the crap that’s on “regular” tv any day.

Ichika x Kaito seems to be a must, but I really don’t want to see a Tetsuro x Mio pairing. Mio has come out of her shell and has grown the most of all the characters in my opinion. She deserves much more than the ass Tetsuro is. Kanna and her “Tanigawa fist” is probably the best choice for Tetsuro to keep him in line, but after what she’s gone through, she also deserves better. Those three really just need to stay friends, chalk this round in the “first love” category and find more suitable boyfriends and girlfriend.

Chalk me up as Lemon fan as well. I think Lemon, the master manipulator, really made this series. Can’t wait for the full story on her. Also, don’t forget Tetsuro’s sister, Manami. She seems to know Lemon and is always running away from her husband back to her parent’s home. She almost seems to be keeping an eye on her brother and the group (the Okinawa trip?). If Lemon is MIB, is she? It would be great to see her come ridin’ in like the cavalry in her borrowed Tamiya t-shirt to help save the day.

If the ending doesn’t blow up in a good way, I’ll probably buy this series. I just wish someone like NIS would have picked it up instead of ADV Zombie.

    What Winter?
  10. manly tears were coming out… albeit not that much yet.

this ep truly feels like a reminiscent of tora dora. right now i can see myself shedding more manly tears next week =,(

makes me wish im truly and seriously dating someone

and i must say, mio is truly adorable in this ep and i was quite right about “madoka” getting burnt

      1. Normally, I don’t care when people troll, but you’re getting ridiculous. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Let people express themselves, christ. Besides your logic in your first post, the one with like -50 votes, is terrible. Try again. And no, there is no need to substantiate my comments because obvious ~50 people think so too.

        Sabrael
      2. Lol like it matters what people think, the whole idsea is that I post things that are fact. So logic has pretty much nothing to do with. I phrase things is a mean way to get negative responses, clearly people are still reading despite it getting hidden from down votes. You can try and argue my points but you will not get anywhere because they are just things that happened in the show, no clever wording to try and prove my point, no nothing.

        Seven
  11. I hate them all for making Kanna sad!! I really do! Everybody get to be happy but her.. After all of this is done she’ll probably still be crying her eyes out every night for a few good months, and even after she stops crying it’s gonna take her a while to start being happy again. And while she’s at it, trying to heal – Ichika and Kaito are going to be so love-dovey she’ll hate them, not to mention Mio and Tetsuro getting it on and making her feel left out.

Sorry, but this is NOT a happy ending for me >:'(

    lucci
  12. Seriously, noone is bothered by the fact that they used the same plot device twice in a space of three episodes? That the van has a mechanical arm attached to it (and don’t give me the “the show has spaceships too!” reply)? That, suddenly there is going to be a movie date without any character development backing it up? That the ‘loophole’ is as stupid as it gets (please, if there was an alien presence before then the planet is not class f any more and all the rules regarding not mingling with an underdeveloped species do not apply any longer?)?

I’m sorry, but these last three episodes really ruined the show for me.

Anyways, I’m glad you guys are still enjoying it…

    1. TROLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Oh wait no that’s an opinion, lol.
I know what you mean bro, But like I said earlier, this show is really straight forward, no symbolism, no hidden meanings. Just take the show at face value and try to enjoy it.
The story needs to finish, and with the time they had left; Yeah they needed to force it a bit.

      Seven
    2. Correct me if I’m wrong, are you referring to the scene where Kanna lectures Ichika before running off, and Ichika goes off all sadface?

I believe that our speculation about Remon-sempai being a little more than just a school kid ties in with that high-tech van.

Not sure what you meant by “movie date”.

They didn’t say proving that the planet was previously inhabited by an advance race was a definite solution. They only decided that it was worth a shot because there weren’t any other alternatives. It was better than just sitting around and waiting for Ichika to leave. To add, it was simply a set-up to show the bunch of them working together to keep Ichika on Earth. It was required to bring climax to the series. It may have been a cliche, but that “loophole” scenario works. Just take it with a pinch of salt and try to enjoy it.

It’s a shame that you don’t think fondly of the past few episodes, but hopefully it ends in a way that satisfies you?

      Junglepenguin
      1. Ok lol I had some respect for you because you typed and essay for me but I’m sorry. You need to practice your reading skills.
“Not sure what you meant by “movie date”.” self explanatory stuff.
“Just take it with a pinch of salt” GRAIN of salt. Don’t try so hard to look smart if you’re not. It only makes you look even more dumb

        Seven
      2. Pardon my English. I are English noob trying to look smart. Gomenasai~!

And alright, I admit I was a little slow, and forgot about Tetsurou and his proposition. That aside, was there any need for more development? The focus is currently the gang trying their best to keep Ichika on Earth. I thought it was a good way to keep viewers wondering if Tetsurou had any intention to court Mio.

        Junglepenguin
      3. Yep, they are milking the Kanna ‘boldness and selflessness’ a bit too much for my liking (and, mind it, I thought it was awesome the first time), and by doing that, they diminished it’s meaning, doing a great disservice to her char.

As for Remon sempai, I agree completely. Although I’m beginning to feel some kyouran kasoku nikki vibes coming from her.

By movie date I meant the scene where Tetsuro asks Mio to go on a date with him.

Lastly, I think your explanation about their reasons for trying the ‘previously inhabited route’ as there was no other available, is the closest to a satisfactory explanation as anyone would get and I accept it as well.

Still, I’m saddened that, in my view, this show could be so much more if it just had ended a bit earlier.

Anyways, thank you very much for your reply, it was very much appreciated. Same goes to Seven’s, despite he/she got out of line in his response to yours.

        fluca
      4. @fluca
Yeah, first thought that came to mind watching that scene was “Haven’t I seen this before”? And it really did look like the producers were trying to cash in on Kanna and her “ability” to release some “emotional outburst” to move viewers. I didn’t like it as well, but I can’t bring myself to not like Kanna, so I’ll just ignore that one scene for now.

And Remon-sempai is something else. I like mysterious girls. They’re charming. =D

Not too sure if it would have been a better series if it had ended earlier, but I agree that there was potential for this series to do a little better. But that’s just my personal preference. Can’t say I wasn’t satisfied with the series so far.

And lol, no problem. It’s always a pleasure to compare a series from different perspectives, and I was actually really interested in the stuff you mentioned.

        Junglepenguin
    3. I disagree with you about the ‘movie date’ thing coming out of nowhere. Check out how Tetsurō responded to Mio a few episodes ago when Mio asked him directly if he liked her. He said ‘I don’t dislike you’ which is a code for saying I like you more than a friend but perhaps not yet love. You have to remember that in Japanese the word for like and love are the same so the word ‘like’ is not used lightly.

Apart from that the Remon stuff was all her being a troll. I guess we’ll find out the next episode what exactly her role is in all this. My one concern is that that accident looked pretty serious and those two in the back were not wearing seatbelts. So perhaps Ichika gets toasted in an accident! You will notice in the ending that it was Remon who appeared in the part that Ichika normally does.

      Scruffy
      1. Yes, I understand your point of view and it holds water, but, I don’t know, to me it just felt rushed (being that he spent a good portion of his life, never mind the anime, being selflessly in love with Kanna).

Also, with that in mind, his invitation felt like they (writers) trivialized his love for Kanna and, to top it off, abused Mio’s.

Again, thanks for the reply 🙂

        fluca
      2. In regards to the movie date… Actually there was more build up for that development before the part where he told her that he didn’t dislike her. Before that, after she had confessed and after she cut her hair, there were moments where he was mildly flustered by Mio because he was more aware of her then. Not because he didn’t want her attention or didn’t consider her. When they were all just friends with no real knowledge of how the other felt about them, he didn’t get embarrassed when she was close to him or anything. Also, after the whole thing with Kanna rejecting him, she was there for him. While they left the park, they were all hugged up together. So there was some build up for it, not totally random development. Though I thought he would’ve asked earlier in the episode maybe or the last episode as a reward to all of us rooting for Mio. Lol.

        Axel
    1. Kuroda on his 3rd time in the Onegai series? Nah, this isn’t ending bittersweet.

But, he’s going to MILK IT until pretty much the end card. I fully expect that.

But, they’re hinting at Ichika being back the summer after they graduate high school. The “3 years” comment has popped up more than once.

      I.e. didn’t Nagai doing Toradora? 🙂

      SQA
  13. When Lemon came and said she had a solution.. I thought they would use the same solutions certain “aliens” use here.. in the US..

Marry, and impregnate the girl~ there you go! Instant Green card!

  14. “First she told off Kaito when he was being a bitch”

^That line was ridiculously funny to me for some reason. Also, I agree that the ending theme playing through the last minute made me nostalgic for Toradora (always a good thing – a very good thing).

Some other shows have done that well like Ano Hi Mita Hana A Thousand More Words, but Toradora and now Ano Natsu perfected it. I’m not sure if it’s the music itself or how it seems to intertwine with the ending credits.

Obviously, I am enjoying every minute of this. Hopefully we see more from this awesome pairing of the director and lead character designer.

    7godeohs
  15. Now this show knows how to use an ED properly. Hearing Yanagi Nagi’s “Vidro Moyō” play as the action climbed the last few steps to this week’s conclusion…why, it’s like watching Toradora all over again. And anything that reminds me of Toradora is automatically getting high marks. Can’t wait for next week. Can’t wait.

Well, director Nagai Tatsuyuki did do Toradora. And AnoHana. And Railgun…… Like I said, he’s on an amazing run here. 🙂

    1. I loved his decision to make everyone’s fave trolls in the To Aru verse, The Kihara Family, to end up as the Big Bad of the Railgun series. The fight between Telestina Kihara Lifeline!Transformer-like robot vs Misaka was, IMO, only second to Touma vs Vento.

Now, if only there is a second season of Railgun…

      The Moondoggie
      1. @Kusabi

If there is then it would only mean that the next Index anime after that would have “New Testament” on it. XD I love how the “New Testament” series is turning out.

        The Moondoggie
      2. Sorry, sorry, I can’t help but making joke like that when I hear the word “New Testament”.
Well, let’s hope the novelist of Index can wrap up Index story nicely, and no more technobabble please.

        Kusabi
  16. In the end, guess only Yukarin (the Amazing Remon-sempai) could get Hocchan (Emika) to soften her stance and think of a loophole situation for Ichika and Kaito to get out of. lol

Speaking of Remon-sempai, she has gone up a lot from just being “trolling for the lulz” to active player. Who knows, perhaps Happy Ending (TM) is her definition of the “ultimate lulz”, hence why she’s helping out to ensure a Happy Ending is achieved.

Remon-sempai claims she’s 17, though from the size of the van, it seems to be an ordinary sized van (ordinary license – age limit 18) rather than a light-sized “kei car” van (small special license – age limit 16).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_car
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_license_in_Japan

Seeing as she’s so awesome with her stunt driving, and being 17-18 as a third-year high school sounds about right, I’ll ignore her bluffing slightly about her age. 🙂

I was really hoping for Kannatsurou to end up together, but Miotsurou are actually just as cute. Where does that leave Kanna though? I don’t want her to just go “meh, at least my friends are happy so I’m happy”, I want her to genuinely be happy. :/

  18. Hi, I’m seven. I should be spending time doing normal people stuff like arguing in an intellectual way, or paying attention in class, or even sleeping, but no. I’d rather post comments I know people hate because I love attempting and failing to argue a (stupid) point, as well as attacking other people. But in reality, I just love being called a troll. I love receiving that verbal abuse, because deep down, I’m an M. Yes, I admit it: I get horny reading your hateful comments. So please keep them coming bros!

PS: I talk like a wannabe frat guy douchebag online because I don’t want you guys to find out that I’m a pussy in real life.

    Seven
      1. Meh. Pretty sure the internet was conceived as a way to protect information / make a robust emergency response network on a national level? Something like that. Either way, this episode was amazing. I can see how some people might be frustrated with Kaito, but in my opinion that just makes him more of a human everyman character.

        bubs
  19. Ahaha, I love when people do this. It’s so funny because it only proves that what I’m doing is doing what I wanted.
ok ok here, I’m going to try doing you.
Man; that Seven guy is a total troll, I really can’t find any holes in his argument other than I think they are dumb so I’ll just call him stupid, lol yeah that will show him. I wish I could stay up for days on end like that seven guy even though he is a jerk. Hmm I wonder what kind of grades he gets if he always goofing off in class (it’s 3.8 in case you care), I bet he’s really dumb lol. Man… I’m so cool and funny; I should try and get a stand up job on comedy central.

    Guy Pretending to be Seven
    1. You know what? Now that you have proven that you are a fucking troll, without me putting effort at all, I’ll put holes in your argument….

Or maybe I’ll just rant on you for calling c2710’s manly tears “semen”:

      The Original Post

      1. …the fact Kiato is retarded and Ichika is as bland as they come…

If a retard can make movies, operate an old camera and fall in love, what about those retards in the mental ward? Poor guys.

Also if people call a red headed alien “bland” then characters in Slice-of-life anime without a hint of the extraordinary must be even worse?

Fact: You just hate Kaito for not saying anything to Kanna last episode. Might be you had the same experience IRL? I guess, seeing as you are so intent on badmouthing Kaito and Ichika.

      2. Giant robot arms on top of vans, scooters jumping out of a van going at top seed then said scooter going through a steel guard rail and still being about to run, magic

Poor kid, you must think that anything you don’t understand must be magic! Oh well:

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

Robots and physics must be too advance for you kid, even though you are a biochem major. Oh wait: Physics isn’t your area of expertise. Now we understand why it seems magic to you, LOL.

      3. Kiato has done nothing but hurt people yet everyone still wants to help him while he’s like “lol phuck you” the whole story.

So it’s like your argument says that Kaito never treated them like friends. Wow, letting them inside his house, hanging out with them at school. Yeah, not friends at all.

And you are saying friendships are mutual, yet you only argue one side of things and not the other. You had avoided my arguments last episode by trying to steer away from the argument like any troll would in face of an adversary far smarter than they are. And you seem to have done the same for everyone else here:

“If they really are friends, Kanna would have understood Kaito’s decision without Kaito explaining it to her.”

      The Moondoggie
      1. It’s so cute how you are trying so hard. It’s funny how you have learned nothing from our other conversations. You STILL can’t spot sarcasm that is plain as day, and then you try to insult me with the comments you misinterpreted. I just can’t stop laughing at how you keep on saying I’m trying “steer” the argument in a different direction, bro, you know how much I hate spelling things out in black and white for you. The topic of how they are not good friends was addressed many times and your question was answered. I like how you think your “version” of friend ship is not one sided when you blatantly say that they should all conform to how Kiato and Ichika want it.
And you think talking to someone and letting them in your house is ‘friendship’? you have REALLY low standards, I let people I hate with a passion in my apartment all the time.
I know have told you this at least five times; Learn how to spot sarcasm, read things in the context of what they are said, and know when some thing is relevant to what is being talked about. When you can do at least those three things get back to me. /<3

        Seven
      2. OK then prick, which part of your post is “sarcasm”? Because nobody of the 50 people who voted you down thinks it is “sarcasm”.

Funny how you ask people to read your post “in the context of what they are said” when you claim there are parts that are sarcasm. I did, but you claim there is sarcasm. IF any part of your post IS sarcasm, it’s not a very good one: Sarcasm is meant to be obvious. The fact that I, or anyone else, fail to see it, as you claim, makes it a fail, and therefore, so are you.

…I like how you think your “version” of friend ship is not one sided when you blatantly say that they should all conform to how Kiato and Ichika want it.

And are they not free to do as they please? Actually, they can object: Kanna could have just went over to Kaito’s and voice out her pain. Why she didn’t do it? What’s stopping her? Might be because she voluntarily stepped aside so Ichika will reciprocate Kaito’s feelings? She knows she will cry but she went ahead anyway and I applaud for her decision, something you will never understand.

And I pity you kid: forcing yourself to mingle with people you hate. I can understand if it’s something to do with school or work. Or are you that much of a coward to say you hate them? Sorry for trying to avoid unnecessary fights with people I hate by ignoring them as much as possible unless I need to set aside my own ego.

        The Moondoggie
      3. Oh my god lol, I’m not about to turn this into an English lesson just for you. I think I see what the problem is now, I’m not correcting every last mistake you make (which I’m not about to start doing), so you still think you have made some valid point. When I really just choose to ignore them. Now I’m not sure how you figure down votes are related to sarcasm in any way but you need to know that one sentence can be sarcastic and the next sentence might need to be read in context of something said earlier.
Dealing with people you don’t like just a part of life, I keep my self on good terms with people because it’s convenient. I have friends and I have people I use, everyone does this.
Now until you can read and write on a 10th grade level stop wasting your time trying to talk to me.

        Seven
      4. Yup, running away again… Typical.

Oh and BTW: I’m not the one making mistakes here, it’s you. Like how you told Zero that:

“Nowhere in anyone of my arguments have I used my opinion to justify anything.”,

when you are saying you have answered my question.

        Also, you told Sabrael that:

…”the whole idsea is that I post things that are fact…”,

when you acknowledge that everything you have said so far is an opinion and not a fact.

        The Moondoggie
      5. Everything you just said was so incoherent I could not help but face palm, and trust me that’s hard to do. I deal with stupid people all day, so gratz. I’ll stick to the topics we’ve talked about.
Ok fine here’s an English lesson, here is a simple one.
“Giant robot arms on top of vans, scooters jumping out of a van going at top seed then said scooter going through a steel guard rail and still being about to run, magic I know”
“Giant robot arms on top of vans” this is sarcasm
“then said scooter going through a steel guard rail and still being about to run” this is what’s relevant
Now here is where is might get tricky for you…. lol
“magic I know” was in context to the scooter, not the robot arm. You tried to pose an argument based on how I said the arm was magic. But you read it out of context and made yourself look stupid. The scooter falling out of a moving van and take no damage then ‘phasing’ though that guard rail is magic.
The reason no one else comments on this is because it’s obvious.
I love how your only cop out is “lol running away”, come on bro. If your going to try hard at least try hard to not look pathetic.

        Seven
      6. “/Giant robot arms on top of vans/” cannot be sarcasm because it doesn’t complete a thought/idea/subject and doesn’t have an opposite idea/thought/subject.

        Dictionary.com states:

In sarcasm, ridicule or mockery is used harshly, often crudely and contemptuously, for destructive purposes. It may be used in an indirect manner, and have the form of irony, as in “What a fine musician you turned out to be!” or it may be used in the form of a direct statement, “You couldn’t play one piece correctly if you had two assistants.” The distinctive quality of sarcasm is present in the spoken word and manifested chiefly by vocal intonation …

See how they do sarcasm? “What a fine musician you turned out to be!” is a complete thought. As a sarcasm it would mean “What a dumb musician you turned out to be!” It has an opposite thought/idea.

Your “/Giant robot arms on top of vans/” has no opposite idea except, and I don’t believe it is what you mean, “/Giant robot arms under vans/” or “/ Vans on top of Giant robot arms/”.

Next, the act of posting two ideas in one sentence is not a good practice.

By you: “Giant robot arms on top of vans, scooters jumping out of a van going at top seed then said scooter going through a steel guard rail and still being about to run, magic; I know.”

That is not a correct sentence. If you have intended that “/Giant robot arms on top of vans/” as a sarcasm then, like I had said, it must present a complete thought as well as an opposite. If it is a chain of sarcasm, like “What a fine musician you turned out to be, definitely award-winning”, the two must be divided by a comma, the main thought/idea followed by a remark.

From the sentence you made “/Giant robot arms on top of vans, scooters jumping out of a van going at top seed then said scooter going through a steel guard rail and still being about to run/” is the whole sarcastic thought, if ever, while “/magic/”, is the remark.

Please construct your posts better next time.

      7. The context and relevance part wen’t right over your head, huh. well I tried at least, Think what you want, but when boiled down to basics all my points are valid and accurate.
Running away now, till episode 12.

  20. Damn it, Tetsuro! Why do you have to go and say something so Death Flag like!? That’s just asking for that crash. Lol.

Also, I think Lemon-senpai has plenty of evidence of previous alien visits…probably inherited it from Ichigo.

  21. Oh geez, what happened here in the comments?

Anyway, as much as I’m glad Tetsurou’s giving Mio a chance, I would have preferred either him with Kanna or no one before Mio, though only by a slim margin. Mio’s grown a lot, and gotten more development with him, AND has been supporting him this whole time…but she’s kind of near the bottom of my list of characters I like.

    So I guess, logically, they should end up together, but…KANNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ;______________________;

    Da5id
  22. I don’t think that they will be separated in the end. The writers seem to please the fanbase as STILTS said, and a separated Kaito and Ickika is definitely undesired from most viewers. But, you never know. All I ask is that it does not end up like School Days.

    KzM
  23. Guys, let’s just address the fact that Lemon probably actually IS with the FBI. I mean, the implications and hints thus far are making me believe it (her extremely mature personality, her high watchfulness of those around her, her need to record everything, and let’s not forget her different, “special” uniform and, oh yeah her various driver’s licenses and HER FREAKING VAN.
She even said she was with the Men in Black a few weeks ago and I blogged about it and said “You know, at this point, I really wouldn’t be surprised anymore” and I still hold true to that.

Completely agree with the statement that every character is likable. No matter how much I thought I’d hate Kanna or think of Mio as annoying or something, everyone’s true characters punched me in the face. I love everyone. I know extending this show could potentially diminish it’s fantastic-ness, but as I’ve said previously, I would not mind another 15 episodes in any way, shape, or form.

Happy ending for some, if not all, I pray! And even if there are no happy endings, they’ll still pull off a fantastic and logical finish. I won’t know what to do with myself from now on without Mondays to look forward to as much as I have been for the past 11 weeks…

  24. Dear Seven,

There is a big difference in stating an opinion and just being an asshole. If you don’t like the series then stop watching it. It’s as simple as that, no need to demean something that other people enjoy. Besides we all knew coming into this that the plot is a little rehashed or there is direct tie-ins to Onegai Teacher. No one cares about the opinion of someone who is deliberately being a douche just to make people mad on a website that is chill. Your opinion is your opinion and regardless of trolling or the lack thereof but instigation is just childish bro. So do us all a HUGE favor and just the HELL up!

    Sincerely,

    Zero

    Zero
    1. See that’s the funny thing. No where in anyone of my arguments have I used my opinion to justify anything. All I’ve done is state things that kiato has done and the problems they have caused.
If you even read my first post, I said I like the show and a few times after that, Don’t rant with out all the facts.
Oh by the way how do I “just the HELL up!” I’ll do it if you can explain how

      Seven
      1. And I have noticed that, that’s why I’m not accusing you of being a troll or anything and if you like the series then by all means continue to enjoy it. And there have been some points you made that are valid but then you do nothing but follow up with some smart ass style answers making most of the people here angry at you (which you probably don’t care about at all). I read all of your posts so I didn’t come into this without all the facts but the highest standing fact is the point that your just being an ass with your comments. Case in point “Oh by the way how do I “just shut the HELL up” I’ll do it if you can explain how”. Figure of speech…but its whatever. Also being a romance anime there are things that all characters do that causes drama. Its a dramatic romance anime.

        Zero
      2. Not trying to argue or dispute anything just saying that there is no need to be a smart ass about everything. You never really reiterated your statements or tried to defend your points. You just kept saying Kaito is a retard, here’s my proof, everyone else can suck it. You just deflected the comments making it out that everyone else is stupid because no other points are as valid. All I’m saying it take good and bad and continue to make this site as enjoyable as it always is and has been.

        Zero
      3. I said this before, but this show is really simple, not in a bad way. Like between Pokémon and Mawaru-Penguindrum it leans a deal more towards Pokémon. It’s just I make my points with baseline facts which are already supported by other facts about the show. So after my initial statement there is nothing else I can really say.

        Seven
      4. Its more along the lines of smack talk that is ensuing to other people making remarks on their writing level and etc. Again like I said your opinion is your opinion but there are not really any base line facts to be seen because everything you see you gather different views on; its the same with everyone else as well. Sometimes things can been seen in the same stand point but it still makes it an opinion.

        Zero
      5. I have to disagree, there are baseline facts for everything. If I say “hay look at that bird flying” you can’t say “nope that bird is swimming” and still be talking based on facts

        Seven
      6. That may be true but come on honestly most baseline facts don’t really apply when you are talking about an anime with an alien girl who can speak fluent japanese comes crashing down from space, almost kills the main character, then falls in love with him and the feeling is mutual. And who is to say that the bird is not swimming through out the skies. Our atmosphere may not be tangible like water but it is still considered a substance. 🙂

        Zero
      7. while you are right some things are relative you can not argue that Kiato did know about Kanna’s feeling and did nothing. That’s a fact that backs it self up with story alone. I don’t have to prove it.

        Seven
      8. and like i said earlier there are no arguements coming from me all I am saying is that some of the comments further on down the page are demeaning towards other people which is why you have sooo much hate on you. Just chill with that and things will be good. Looking back at my first post all I was saying is that some of the things further on down the page. I apologize for calling you a douche as well sir.

        Zero
      9. “Looking back at my first post all I was saying is that some of the things further on down the page” lol sorry ADD kicked in, but all I was trying to say in general is just the demeaning comments bring hate on you so if you don’t mind can you chill on those.

        Zero
  25. Try not to feed the trolls, i’m excited about reading comments of how people actually enjoyed the episode instead of that crap making other people hesitant of posting how they felt and related themselves about the episode, now lets forget what I just said and i’ll say what I have in mind about the episode

Ano natsu really reminds me the kind of friendship i’ve been in, it’s really awkward to have couples in your circle but at the same time it is very touching to have your circle support the couple, while is it true that people try to avoid falling in love within their friendship circle which causes conflict inside the circle, seeing them supporting it feels like being accepted by a true family

    nice
    1. How is it amusing seeing only one side of a show? Why does everyone have to agree the show is good? should people only be aloud to post if they have positive things to say?
should all the posts be about butterflies and kisses?
pretty boring if you ask me.

      Seven
      1. Considering the fact that you don’t like people and are proud of the fact that you’re in the minority, so that you can boast about your difference as “uniqueness”, I find it ironic that you can’t wait to be the first one to come onto a fan-based board (not even an official, japanese site), to post your opinion. If you really disliked the show, you would have quit watching it, and wouldn’t bother commenting. It’s like, you’re so weak of person, that you cant accept the fact that a show would have something you don’t know about (which is love), that you have to come onto the internet, to try and get confirmation….”You guys think is stupid too right…right? there’s no such thing as love, right?”. Sorry Seven, it’s only you. Do you know how someone is weak-minded? When they don’t have the strength to change those around them, and don’t have the strength to accept those around them. You guys are letting off too easy by calling Seven a troll, he’s weak-minded.

        what
      2. Lol. What’s with all these people trying to teach me morals. I liked to know how you made a connection between being unique and posting on a blog site, one has nothing to do with another. Also I’ve said I like the show a few times, and as I’ve also said MANY times before nothing I said relating to my argument about the show is an opinion. It’s not even like I have to prove that lol, you could just read my posts. Are you really trying to make it look like I’m jealous of a TV show? that’s good. Bro if you are going to try and pose a insult towards me at least try to make it realistic. Like even your argument sucks, you claim I’m proud to be unique but then say I’m trying to change people to my way of thinking. Ahaha man I love when stupid people try to look smart and insightful.

        Seven
    2. Agree with you on that Seven, and I appreciate the different viewpoint in the comments, which really spices up the discussion on the episodes. But frankly, in the spirit of RC, the freedom of speech and intellectual debate, I would also appreciate it if you stick to attacks on the show itself and hold back on the emotional or personal attacks. That’ll probably bring many many more people, whom I reckon are all too afraid of being labelled trolls for disagreeing with the common sentiment after reading through the barrage above, to your viewpoint of the show.

      To illustrate my point:

      manly tears is semen; right?
because this episode was really funny, nothing to really cry about

I can see the sarcasm here, albeit it’s slightly demeaning to the previous poster. I wouldn’t argue about the right to express one’s own feelings but mocking others’ feelings are bound to get angry reactions from the community, unless that’s what you are trying to do there. If that’s so, I don’t see how such an anticipated reaction contributes positively to the discussion of the baseline facts of the episode other than providing some blunt entertainment, which is perhaps what you are aiming for. IMHO, most readers on RC are probably not really comfortable with that sort of entertainment.

Giant robot arms on top of vans, scooters jumping out of a van going at top seed then said scooter going through a steel guard rail and still being about to run, magic

… and the lengthy debate on the sarcasm in this
I’m probably too thick to get the sarcasm when I read this, so I make a plead to you to please keep the sarcasm simple as hell so simple-minded people like me can appreciate and enjoy it. I see no point in giving a cat a gold bar when it fails to see the worth.

“Not sure what you meant by “movie date”.” self explanatory stuff.
“Just take it with a pinch of salt” GRAIN of salt. Don’t try so hard to look smart if you’re not. It only makes you look even more dumb

Ermm, I think this is going slightly overboard in terms of ‘heated’ discussion, might be easier to just point out the obvious sometimes; saves times for others figuring out why they got blasted and saves time for defending yourself from personal attacks. I think the responses are all really civil in comparison to what the original post was like, which is what I really like about RC: that respectful and responsible speech, regardless of perspective, disagreement or emotion.

More often than not, I think the way things are said is more important than what those said things are. perhaps more people would readily side with your viewpoints when you show them some more respect. These are still people, even if we are posting on the internet… Being the lone voice of opposition is tough and takes loads of courage, I respect that. However, being a lone warrior enjoying the personal attacks on RC is just kinda sad, even if it’s enjoyable…

Lastly, I liked it when you said, ” It’s just I make my points with baseline facts which are already supported by other facts about the show. So after my initial statement there is nothing else I can really say.” That’s what discussion should be based on and expanded upon, and that’s the core spirit of RC that I’ve seen thus far, which I sincerely hope will remain that way (^_^).

P.S. I use RC for Random Curiosity, just to make it clear.

      BlueSakana
      1. wow… you have opened my eyes to the wrongness of my ways. You are a very wise and insightful person. from now on I’ll be a nice caring considered person who thinks about the feelings of others.
Lol jk not. Kudos for trying to take things into your own hands and do some innovative problem solving, but what you fail to realize is that nothing (from me at least) is ever ‘heated’ over the internet. The benefit of being on line is the time granted to think about your response to anything said, If you can’t come to a clear and calm answer with all the time in the world given to you; you should probably just shut your computer off. Also you, a random nobody over the internet hold no authority to try and control a situation by means of just saying it. Now if you are smart enough to talk people out of said situation with out them knowing; more power to you.
Now we can argue ethics and morals if you want, which will never go anywhere because they are relative to the person. Or we can argue about facts in a show about Japanese space aliens that have super advance healing technology but for some reason still need glasses to correct eye sight.
I know which one I want to pick, because I know it has an end. How about you?

        Seven
      2. Wow Seven, you are even bashing comments which IMO is really constructive for everyone (not just you). What does that say about you? Or are you just trying to ruin the RC community? >_>

  27. Here’s one for the anime pilgrims – Lake Kizaki is the location that Ichika is looking for.

Extrapolating from the Shinkansen station that Kaito’s sister departed from in episode 2 – Sakudaira Station – the nearest town our heroes reside in would be Komoro, Nagano.

So using that assumption, Google Maps seems to compute it would take just under 2 hours by car to get to Lake Kizaki. The fastest way by train would be just under 3 hours. 🙂

  28. I have to say that I like the show and I would definitely would recommended to a friend,if I had one that would watch anime. oh! that would be cool must people that I know only watch certain shows, but I watch all kind of anime like Chobits and I don’t really knows if, I liked it but I would watch it again? probably yes:) there is something about the show ja jaj.

I think all shows have their flaws and this one is not different:( I have friends that has had girlfriends or boyfriends form difference countries and they know from the start that they can not stay together…perhaps they try to deny it a bit, but the day does come that one of them have to live:( and this is life, there is nothing you can do. In this times that we are living there are more way to keep us together even if we are in different continents( Skype);), however it depends on the couple and I guess somehow in the culture ( in my culture no-ones is very faithful ). Sometimes this is a problem I have watching anime where boy and girl are made for each other and no one else, which in real life there are many people you are compatible that being said I don’t like shows where the main character can not choose.

I like Kanna, but I will never be able to be in the car with both of them..:( this take time and for me would be a lifetime thing. I would talk to them separately never together.(I have a weak heart)and I don’t like awkward situations.

Good for Tetsuro that acknowledge Mio’s love. Love is hard to come by and if someone is give it to you and if, you are in free position why not give it a try.

  29. Finally, the phrase is said (in the preview) – ano natsu de matteru^^
Anyway, can’t you guys leave the kid alone? It’s just going to blow up his ego, make him more excited, make him afraid of ‘reality’, become a hikokomori and continue to be a net troll, a neet, and a limited life. Do him a favor and just turn a blind eye.

There are many posts here I’d like to read beside his, so rather than answering to his taunts, why don’t you guys post fun stuff that I can read? Because that’s why I come here, for both the blog and the fun comments 🙂

    1. Why are you even complaining lol, you don’t have to show them. And it’s not like up and down votes are all that different.

If it goes up 20 votes people read it because it’s green.

If it goes down 20 votes people read it because they are curious as to why it got down 20 votes.
