「パンダくん張り切る/みんなのパフェ」 (Panda-kun Harikiru/Minna no Pafe)
“Panda Gets Enthusiastic/Everyone’s Parfait”

Let’s admit it: Panda is a whole lot more lovable when he isn’t being a little brat :D. Take that part away from him and what do you know? He’s a really likable ditzy clumsy character who lands himself in really silly (stalker) conclusions! On his own, Panda can’t function well as a character, but boy when the other characters start messing with him…he isn’t such a bad kid to watch!

I would appreciate it if this new Panda kept up for the rest of the show… but that’s not likely. For now, let’s just hope Panda’s antics attract the other characters, which this episode’s latter half did quite nicely. Although some of the jokes seemed a little tried, such as the Panda and Penguin V1 parfaits, most jokes hit 2nd or 3rd base. One home run was hit with one of the last jokes, as it speaks all too well to the reactions when eating a) food that looks artsy, and b) food that looks like you. Unbearable to destroy…unsettling to watch pretty much sums up the feelings upon consuming food art. It was nice to see the over-reactionary side-animals play their part in visualizing the other fail parfaits, with my favorite anteater hailing in high-tension awesome as always. It’s a shame they didn’t include sloth in this segment, as he usually brings down a good joke… albeit slooooooww——

I hope I wasn’t the only one who didn’t get really hungry when Sasako-san made those parfaits. When I finish up this post, I’m going to go down to my local market and get a parfait for myself whilst thinking “how could I make a polar bear parfait that good…” If any of you decide that you can make a parfait of this quality, you should post it in the comments for everyone to see! Heck, maybe this episode is where we start our RC cooking club…just a suggestion ^_^

Next week, each of the two segments will focus in on more of Panda’s dilemmas…where he finally realizes how much of a whitewashed and unfit Panda he is. If this suggests that we get to see some GAR Pandas…I’m excited.

Alt-texts: still doing ’em. :3

I agree that Panda-kun is a real brat but that’s what makes the whole thing funny! oh and I had a super good laugh when I found out who the stalker was! All along, I thought it was Show Spoiler ▼

  2. Panda’s imagination of Rinrin (that screenshot with the shadow girl) reminded me of Utena.

Overall, this episode was pretty enjoyable. I LOL-ed at the cute parfaits designs being decapitated and whatnot by the female customers. xD

  3. I couldn’t help myself from laughing at Panda tearing up when I should be empathizing him.

It will be hard for Penguin to get his license when he’s panicking behind the wheel like that.
The way Polar Bear describes his hunting was comical.
If they didn’t add in the stabbing sound to the spoons going into the parfaits it would not have been that funny, but it was. XD

  4. I suspect any cafe doing the panda, penguin and bear parfaits for real will make a killing, they looked so good!

Panda’s face when he found out who Rin-Rin was just had me in hysterics.

  6. I read up on Chinese BBS sites that Namco is really selling food based on Shirokuma Cafe (yes, including the parfaits). Unfortunately, I can no longer find the page with the pictures XD.
