「アタック!⇔にゃんばーにゃん!」 (Attaku! to Nyanbaa Nyan!)
“Attack! ⇔ Number One-Nya!”

After five episodes of watching my new favorite group of people do things that we all take for granted in a terribly overdramatized manner, I have come to the conclusion that I will be really sad when this show finishes its run. How am I supposed to substitute things like Mayoi taking an uppercut to the face from a cat or Sakaki getting shoved straight into a whizzing volleyball?

In terms of pacing, this week’s episode felt a little slower than usual. Be it a lack of jokes or more time watching Tsumiki try to charm Io, things felt like they were just going back and forth between trying to be funny or emotional. However, I wouldn’t say that the change of pace was a bad thing and while this may not have been the funniest episode of the season, it did make a strong statement about how versatile Acchi Kocchi can be. Honestly, I was impressed with how well the show managed to play off the lighter side of a slice-of-life. One that doesn’t necessarily focus on hard hitting humor but taking the things we do everyday and giving it a little flare.

Even though I talked about him last week, I can’t help but bring up Io again. We’ve already seen just how thick he can be and this episode not only reinforced that notion but cemented it and put a layer of asphalt over it. I mean, how oblivious can a person who’s so knowledgeable about females and how their minds work miss something so obvious as indirectly asking for a kiss? Because if going into full dere mode isn’t enough to tip someone off, I don’t know what is. But what really blew my mind this week was the realization of just how far Io can stretch that charm of his. I mean, if he can charm both females and animals what’s stopping him from conquering the whole world?

With the antics never taking a break, I can’t imagine what’ll be in store for us next week. Judging from the preview, maybe we’ll get to see Mayoi work those new assets of hers!

P.S. Sorry about the late post everyone! With Finals and Work taking its toll, I just haven’t had the time to get it out till now. Hyouka will be out shortly and things will be back on track soon!

  1. The thing I hate most about romantic comedies is that status quo is god. If the love interest actually realized that the cute girl really liked him, half the comedy would be lost. Sadly, it often breeds characters, particularly male characters that are a little dense.

This episode does look really funny though.

  2. Does anyone else look at Io and see the separated at birth twin brother of Keima Katsuragi? Or at least a Keima clone not permanently stuck in Tsun Tsun mode when dealing with the outside world?

  3. Large Preview image 3. Tsumiki-tan ftw.

Hime is adorable, I hope she wins something at somepoint during this series. I’m completely ok with Mayoi as Tsukkomi fodder o3o. Particularly Tsumiki’s, as her’s tend to be brutal.

I found Mayoi’s Volleyball fails to be particularly hilarious. Dive into Suplex from Io…. and then WHIFF due to hunger. XD;.

  4. I dunno i think this would be cool without the “trying to get Lo but fail nonstop” thing.
It dont make use of the romance then dont even bother. besides, it seems like everyone is kinda in love with him so why worry about loli-cat-girl?
