「奮い勃つ剣」 (Furuitatsu Kingudamu)
“My Kingdom Standing Tall”

I’m a little glad that Ryosuke got his mojo back but when did he get permission to act badass and have his shirt all buttoned down while flying in with a catchy guitar riff? Where did he learn to jump off a flying magical being with such bravado?

Once again, I think it’s sort of sad to see Mina lose Ryosuke to Lisara. There are a few examples within this last episode that make me feel she might go crazy (nice boat please!). For example, as Ryosuke gets hurt, Lisara runs over to him as she yells his name. She cries in front of him and pleads him to stop. This is something Mina was about to do but since she isn’t as strong as Lisara wasn’t able to do right away. Another instance was when Ryosuke essentially took in a deep breath of Lisara’s scent. I think that was the moment where it really hit her and that it crossed her mind that she had lost Ryosuke’s affection for good. Then again, the preview looked very harem-y like everything reset.

Many memories can be associated with a smell. For example, many people imagine their favorite foods and associate them with scents. When Ryosuke started to imagine a normal relationship with Lisara, I started to laugh. Then I thought to myself that I’d probably watch that anime too. He has done word associations with his magical dictionary power but I guess sensory association is like his power up! I know this might make me sound creepy (goodbye any shred of respect I had left) but there is something alluring about the smell of a woman especially if she just came out of the shower. Dat shampoo.

It made me laugh when Galdarblog made a pivot towards the misunderstood villain but now that they’ve beaten the big baddy, it’s really interesting that the show has been taken to the a post-apocalyptic looking version of the real world. What now? Stop the them from turning humans into energy?

  1. I like this series. It was a tie between this and Hagure Yuusha no Estetica, but
I think this has a more compelling story, and the characters a little more believable.

Definitely smell is a very strong attractor – probably much more than we, ourselves, realize.
It’s also a memory that’s closer to intimacy since those scents are only available in close range.
Nazo no Kanojo X had an episode like that.

I don’t know where the love interest is actually going in this series – and I like that they’ve
been able to keep us guessing this whole time. I don’t know if there will be enough story for
a 2nd season, but so far this has been a strong series – I look to a great end.

  2. I haven’t been following this anime that much(iirc ~ ep 4), much due to school and all, but I’m definitely rooting for Lisara.

BTW what on Earth happen to Lisara’s skin? Did she get burned or something?
