「ルーシィ vs. フレア」 (Ruushii vs. Furea)
“Lucy vs. Flare”

I don’t swear very often, and if I do, it’s for a good reason – for an example, this episode. While I do enjoy Itou Shizuka voicing a psychotic and rude woman like Flare, I just can’t bring myself to like the character. Oh man, I’m so mad right now. Why is it that Lucy must face this devastating loss? I think it’s nice to see that FAIRY TAIL can lose sometimes (even though they’re the strongest guild ever), but why is it almost always Lucy? Her character is great, she is strong, and her magic is amazing. She has gone through so much training, yet she is seldom allowed a chance to shine. It saddens me that a character with so much potential is used as a doormat for the rest of her guild.

Well, at least we know that Lucy would have been the winner if Raven Tail would’ve played it nice. So we do know that Lucy is strong and that she’s the righteous winner for this battle. Poor Lucy… And Raven Tail’s methods, seriously? Threatening a child? That’s so low! But what can you expect from a dark guild? They truly have some eerie magic though. Flare’s burning hair is definitely interesting but what interests me the most is Obra’s magic. That little monster of his is very suspicious…

Aside from the rage, there were many great moments in the episode. We were given a chance to see how much Lucy has developed and she has really gone a long way. Seeing how she can make Gemini copy her to double her magic power really amazed me. I’ve been missing Urano Metria since last time we saw it (during the Oración Seis arc, when Hibiki transferred this spell to Lucy’s mind). It’s truly a beautiful and powerful magic, and its greatness was accompanied by a completely new track from the new soundtrack today, which really left an impact on me. I’m really sad that Lucy never got a chance to finish her attack though. Obra did an ugly trick and completely sucked out Lucy’s magic power. Was this what he did to Wendy?

Watching Lucy cry near the end really broke my heart and I feel so sorry for her. She truly deserved better. I’m so glad that she is in a guild like FAIRY TAIL where this loss won’t matter. She has great friends, especially Natsu. He really impressed me today (and made my inner fangirl scream a bit). I wonder – when Natsu found the hair around Asuka, why didn’t he yell that out loud so everyone could hear that Raven Tail was cheating? Did he want to see Lucy beat them? I don’t know, really, but I think he had a chance to stop the game there. Oh well, at least everyone else (including the other guilds) noticed that cheating was involved in today’s battle, so this kind of disaster should not happen again.

Last but not least, there is a new character that requires an introduction – Arcadios (Kuroda Takaya), a knight who apparently worships Zeref, and that can’t be good, right? Well, having said that, now that we’ve seen some FAIRY TAIL A battles, it’s time to cheer for FAIRY TAIL B. Next week’s fight seems to be a battle like Lucy’s. We’ll have Jellal facing Jura, so I’m really looking forward to that – finally something that won’t involve cheating!

Moete kitazou!

  1. It was a good episode! I think I’ve heard more new soundtracks than just one, I’m so looking forward to the new OST. And poor Lucy :c

By the way, I’m a bit surprised by the speed anime has taken again, I thought it would take one more episode until Jellal’s battle.

  2. I really like how Natsu caught flare’s hair and set it on fire, that’s how I imagined it should be instead of what I read in the manga when He ripped the hair with both hands, the anime version is more better and cooler.

    1. I’d imagine that you’d feel getting your hair ripped a whole lot more than burning it away. I don’t have long hair so I’d just have to imagine it. In a way, I can see that being the reason Natsu did it to Flare.

And for some reason, I just had the thought of Flare going bald because Asuka noticed it and just kept on pulling at it and pulling at it and pulling at it…

  3. Here I was, excited to see the new episode of Fairy Tail. Finally a chance for Lucy to shine! And shine she did. Lucy faced an opponent who she can beat. Normally she faces opponents way stronger, but this time she had a good chance to win. When Lucy started casting Urano Metria, I was tipping over from exitement. And when the spell stopped, I was like: Huh? Is this everything. Then my heart skipped a beat when I realized Raven Tail was playing things dirty. It was so sad to see Lucy lose after all that epicness…

  4. 0/10 would not watch again! It’s so heartbreaking! Lucy is my favorite character so this episode breaks my heart.

Ah, but the anime made it seem less painful than the manga since Shizuka Itou is voicing Flare.

    1. I did not think the girl that voices Haruka from Amagami, Whilemina from Shana, Himawari from XXXholic, Miyabe from Wagaya no Oinari-sama and Hisa from Saki (all kind characters) could play such a creepy villian until I noticed she also plays Koko from Jourmungand, and Benitsubasa from Sekirei.

  5. I’m hoping for more MAster Mavis deban time. Her actions should be more lively, especially since she’s the original twisted fairy out there. I love the expression from Makarov in the preview. Seems Lika he’s expecting Mavis to go medieval on him.

  6. I so hated that chapter, because Lucy gets screwed big time. I would have accepted that Corona gets injured by a toned-down spell from Lucy, but not a total dispelling. Come on, that’s a cheap shot.

  7. Excrutiatingly painful. Really want to stick it Raven Tail with a red hot spoke right up the rear. Actually the first few days are extrememly painful and it won’t be until a few more days where I can stop stabbing voodoo dolls of Raven Tail and one particular wench.

  8. I can definitely agree with the raging part, so fucking pissed atm geez. Feels like natsu when he’s on overdrive. But yes seeing lucy kick some ass was DEFINITELY a giant high light for her and I was like WOOOOT!. Ahem. Yes,so, all in all I enjoyed the lucy kicking ass parts and will look forward to next week.

  9. Seems like the episode did the manga counterpart some justice, for which I’m glad it did. Very sad that it happened to Lucy and it was completely unfair. Thank you animation team, you did very well on this episode.

Oh and I imagine that next week’s episode will be HILARIOUS. :3

  10. All I know is before this arc is over I want to see Lucy defeat someone, anyone with Urano Metria – there has to be some redemption/justice in all of this. Lucy seems to get the short end of the stick in many cases, even though she has a lot of magical power in her reserves. She shouldn’t be the weak character (from a power perspective) that she is presented as.
