Seishun - Intro

For more than a year, I’ve had the crazy idea to embark on this venture that could throw my peaceful life into disarray. Writing for Random Curiosity, to put it mildly, is no easy task and the great team of writers has certainly set a precedent that would be hard to follow. I won’t deny that such a notion has not been met with resistance, but beyond my usual claptrap, there’s nothing too obscure about the appeal of writing for one of the most popular anime blogs in existence. There’s certainly no other platform quite like Random Curiosity, and the large readership that it enjoys allows me to share both my passion and viewpoint with anime fans all around the globe. Just as important as figuring out what to do will be actually making it happen, and here I am today as your newest writer in Random Curiosity.

I’m going to preface my “blog-ployment” with this: I’m hardly an expert or a connoisseur of anime, but the subject has fascinated me a very long time. My on-and-off relationship with anime began as early as 1992 and much of the story can be traced back to my love for manga as a young boy. Having spent most of my childhood without a TV (I was told we couldn’t afford one), manga was an attractive source of entertainment for a kid who prefers pictures to text. Indeed, I have dabbled into a broad array of manga titles, ranging from the usual suspects (Dragon Ball, Doraemon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ranma ½, Slam Dunk), to some of the lesser-known names (Miyuki, Ribon no Kishi, Kindaichi no Jikenbo, Den’ei Shoujo, Crayon Shin Chan). Anime only became a prominent part of my life during high school when I was a part-timer at a local video rental store. Needless to say, one of the obvious perks was the free unlimited access to its library of anime and it was at that time I discovered the wondrous world of Gundam, Macross, Evangelion and Studio Ghibli, all of which played a key role in promoting my interest in anime.

Fast-forward to the proliferation of internet access, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say I have watched thousands of episodes and hundreds of series. Even as a kid, I’ve never constrained myself to certain genres and that principle certainly rings true to this day. I’m willing to give pretty much everything a shot, whether it’s action-packed adventures, brainless comedies, heartfelt dramas or even plot-less erotic fantasies. Some of my favorites of the last couple of years (2006-2012) include:

On the job as Random Curiosity’s blogger this Spring, I have my eyes set on the two mecha heavyweights – Kakumeiki Valvrave and Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince. The Sci-Fi variety is clearly  one of my preference, but that doesn’t mean I have no interest in the rest. In fact, I’m going to preview Hykka Ryouran Samurai Bride  this week and we all know what’s the attraction of that one (Hands off Sen Hime, she’s mine!). Oh, did I forget to mention the long awaited return of Luffy and his merry crew? The notion that One Piece, which I consider to be the pinnacle of Shounen writing, would go un-blogged was simply unthinkable.  I hope you’ll tune in to see what lies ahead for the Straw Hat crew and if you’re not already a fan, I’ll make you one.

Before I sign off, I would like to thank Divine and his team of writers for this great opportunity, special shout-outs go to Stilts (Aniki! I’m forever in your debt), Stereoman (thanks for your words of encouragement) and Guardian Enzo (truly an amazing writer, be sure check out LiA if you haven’t). I’m really honored to be writing for Random Curiosity but what gets me really excited is the chance to hear from all of you. Random Curiosity wouldn’t be the legendary place it is today without its readers and I assure you we will do our very best to make your stay worthwhile.

Now I’ll end with what I believe is the Random Curiosity’s tradition:

Seishun desu. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!

      1. Oh ho, you just skyrocketed up my list of awesome people. xD I love them both for distinct reasons, but Ao himself is a force to be reckoned with. If I could have a protagonist that good in everything… I’d never get off my laptop and go to class. ;p

      2. Kairi, Ao is hardly good at everything but he certainly tries his very best, and I love him for that :3
Enzo, you have no idea how big of an inspiration you are to me. Pretty soon, I’ll be quoting you in my post. The revered Guardian Enzo once said… XD

        Seishun
      3. I feel as if I’m the Pope, packing the College of Cardinals with acolytes loyal to me… Bwahaha!

There aren’t many of us who love Eureka Seven AO unreservedly as we do, even more than the classic first series. For that alone you’d be a standup guy in my books, but I’ve always enjoyed conversing with you on all kinds of topics and I know you’ll be great for RC.

Now get to work. The coffee isn’t going to make itself…

      4. We bow down to your greatness, oh mighty Enzo!

Really though, I probably would have never started blogging if I hadn’t followed your AO posts last year and been inspired by how great an experience that was. I’m sure plenty of people who feel the same and are happy to be your Acolytes.

  1. So you’re the new writer who’s gonna be blogging Valvrave and Majestic Prince? I’m definitely looking forward to your posts, Seishun.

I personally enjoyed Gundam 00, Macross Frontier, and Highschool DxD myself.

  2. Congratulations Seishun! And welcome to the world of anime blogging. I do hope that you will enjoy your stay and since I know your tastes, I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading your posts. Please don’t burnout because remember Divine is a robot and no one man can possibly emulate him.

  3. I’ll be checking out the following this season. I might not be blogging all of them but I sure as hell will be commenting pretty often.

  4. Lol, so it’s you! I see you commenting around here all the time, hardly a stranger to the site. So a doubly warm welcome to site regular turned blogger…and double pressure because presumably you should have a good idea about how things work around here (jk)…XP

    Zen
    1. On the contrary, I have no idea how things work. Today was my first attempt at constructing a blog post and boy, did I screw up big time with HTML and Photoshop
Please be patient with me XD

      Seishun
      1. Figuring out how to cap and use HTML is something that still makes me shudder. >.< RC posts are more stringent about watermarks and the like, so it must be a real pain. Good luck! I'm happy to offer help but I'm hardly doing things up to the standard of this site.

  5. Its amazing to see the randomc community change and the kind of legacy that each writer blogs…hoping to read your first review Seishun(Make sure your first review leaves people speechless! XD)

    Dualash
  6. Congratulations, Seishun. I’m truly excited and happy for you, since I know that this must feel like a big dream fulfillment for you. I wish you all the best of luck, and I of course look forward to reading your posts, even if I don’t take the time to comment on them.

    Isabel
      1. It hasn’t been that long since I’ve last commented, has it? That you can’t remember the name I use to comment on here. -.-

As for Friday anime discussions, wouldn’t it be shifted now to the weekend? After all, you know what I’m watching since you’ve asked me at least three times now… Anyways, like kou said, try not to burnout too much. I know how busy you can get.

        Isabel
    1. Summaries will probably take a back seat in my anime posts. I’ll be focusing on reviews, viewpoint and debates instead.
Oh trust me, I would love to pick up manga coverage for Magi. But One Piece has the priority at the moment. Maybe Zanibas would be interested in it?

      Seishun
  7. Yoohoo Seishun! All the best on your blogging career! Will def check out your first post!

…and if you’re not already a fan, I’ll make you one

COME AT ME BRO. I only follow FT and I’ve read a few chapter of Reborn lol. (Been planning to read Blue Exorcist someday though)

    d-LaN
  8. Wow, didn’t see that coming. I would have probably seen it had I frequent more in IRC I guess.
Anyways, glad to have you on board the RC staff, Seishun. Quite an extensive list of favorites shows there, especially Fate/Zero. I remember we were flooding IRC with black spoilers, talking about the latest episode lol.
I will certainly follow your posts as I plan to watch those mecha shows. Sadly, I’m not yet caught up to OP but 2/3 isn’t that bad XD.
Welcome aboard and looking forward to your posts.

      1. I wouldn’t say vast, just lucky that I’ve read the source material of those shows.
I’ve read Date a Live so you can count on me with that XD. While not LNs, I’ve also read Shingeki and Railgun(though I’ve fully read Index too).
Summer will have DxD and Fate/kaleid Illya so count on me on those too 😀

    1. I would love to blog 2199 and I’m certainly watching it. It’s too bad I already have two Sci-Fi on my plate and if I were to pick up a third show, it would be something of a different genre, maybe Hyakka Ryouran or Nyaruko.

      Seishun
      1. Aww, too bad… I kinda understand the logic behind this however.

I had never watched the original Yamato (grew up with Uchu Kubo Buru Noa though – Thundersub for us westerners) and I am currently loving the retro sci-fi feeling of Yamato, something I haven’t experienced since the days I was watching Queen Millennia and Captain Harlock as a kid!

        Shadowfax14
  9. I cheered when I saw Tsuritama and Ano Natsu de Matteru under your favorites.
If you had included Hyouka, you would be one of my favorites here at RC ;D
Good luck! I can’t wait to read your posts C:

    Nikku
    1. ENO-SHIMA-DON! Tsuritama is one of my absolute favorites last year and Irino Miyu’s portrayal of Haru was one of my favorite seiyuu performances ever. I did watch Hyouka but it somehow it didn’t quite connect with me the same way Tsuritama did on the character level.

      Seishun
  10. Welcome aboard Seishun-kun!!! Glad to have you on board and here’s hoping for your great coverage on Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Bride (i’m not entirely sold on the premise of the series, make me!!!!!)

in reference to your list of favourites, u can’t tell how overjoyed i was to find Phantom-Requiem for The Phantom. it’s already a good sign. Ganbatte!!

    KingofConquerors
    1. Yes, finally, someone who understands me. Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ is one of the finest anime that I have ever watched. Love the OST by Nanase Hikaru as well.

      Seishun
  11. Well, this is certainly a big surprise after waking up 😮 Congrats on becoming the new writer lol guessed the saturday night chat was correct :p Anyway, I’ll be looking forward to your mecha post 😀 WOOT! SEIREI NO MORIBITO!!!!

    shamaticgrl
    1. Thanks Bishop or should I say shamaticgrl 😉
Sorry I couldn’t join you guys last week, would have loved to be part of that conversation. I’ll try to make it this Saturday :3

      Seishun
  12. Yay, another writer who enjoys mecha anime! 🙂 Can’t wait to read your posts, especially the OP ones. I read up to about 600+ chapters and then fell off the wagon for it. Maybe you’ll inspire me to pick it up again! xD

    Windaerie
    1. Yes, mecha is in my blood. Gotta give those robots some love.
I hope you’ll find the time to pick up One Piece again. The new arc looks amazing and I expecting great things from it 😉

      Seishun
      1. It’s something from from my dark days of scouring 4chan. Basically it’s when someone creates a thread (obviously not the case here) and responds to themselves (to keep their thread bumped) since the board is completely anonymous.

The second post you made almost seemed like you were responding to yourself, so I was just thinking maybe you forgot to switch your name or something. Was pretty funny when I first read that. My bad though since it seems I was wrong.

        Kuntzy
  13. Welcome not Divine, Omni or Jaalin. (tch, all that speculation for nothing) 😛

In all seriousness, I’m looking forward to sharing the ride with you on Valvrave. Not sure on Majestic Prince yet, we’ll see after the first episode.

    Kuntzy
    1. Thanks Kuntzy. Valvrave is the show I’m most looking forward to this season.
Motonaga Keitaro did an excellent job with Jormungand and I’m interested to see what he comes up with in Majestic Prince. The mecha designs looks pretty amazing too.

      Seishun
      1. Yeah, I was pretty hyped for Valvrave since it was revealed (’cause Sunrise mecha show) but then I saw the new PV and heard the Mizuki Nana X T.M. Revolution duet and my brain pretty much exploded.

        Kuntzy
  14. ヽ(=^・ω・^=)丿 Welcome nyan~ Looking forward to reading your posts!! (^・ω・^ ) I watch the One Piece anime but refuse to be spoiled by taking up the manga since I prefer the moving picture~ (=;ェ;=)

    chioneicedyrken
    1. I don’t follow the anime series unfortunately. But I do plan on blogging One Piece Film Z when we have the BD version. I saw it in the theaters few months back and it was awesome!

      Seishun
  15. Glad to have you on board =) Now you can see all the work that goes on behind RC lol
I remember when Divine told me to watch all the Gundam series to make me a mecha blogger -___-‘ that didn’t happen, but now we have you! ^^

  16. Eeeeeexcellent, my harem is invading the writers area now too! Soon I shall take over RC muahahahahahahaha.

    Oh and grats Seishun! 😀

If this isn’t an April Fools joke (stupid April fools making me suspicious of everything).

    Freddeh
  17. WHAT THE FU** IS GOING ON?!!! D: D: D:
AncientOtoko? You’re not satisfied with terrorizing just us anymore?
OH GOD I FORGOT IT’S APRIL FOOLS! I probably need to sleep this off.. >_>

    MrRei
      1. He always talk to all the girls in RC before talking to the boys.

        One example:

        SeishunOtoko has joined the channel
        Croos: hi SeishunOtoko
        Seishun: hi Steroman
        Seishun: hi Bishop
        Croos: ;A;

        10 minutes later…

        Seishun: hi Croos.

      2. Stilts Aniki, I am a gentleman and I learn from the best 😛
Cybersteel, nah, a man has to be self-sufficient so I’m making my own caps :3
Croos, only because Stereoman and Bishop are more interesting than you. Also, that social graph needs to be updated XD
d-LaN, you should join our IRC sessions more often. Croos will terrorize you 😉

        Seishun
      1. LOL Isabel. I’m sure you enjoyed our conversations too :3
I have a feeling I’ll be the one who’s going to take a back seat on IRC, now that I’ve taken on a second job XD

        Seishun
  18. Pleasure to have someone blog about the Straw Hats! I find a blog about One Piece is a bit of what’s missing. Glad you can fill up that spot.

I look forward to your posts, friend. 🙂

    kondee
  19. It would be really funny if this was a joke since today is April fools :p

Well if it isn’t congrats I was wondering who that new writer would be. Heaven’s Lost Property and Seikon no Qwaser on the same list that strikes me as odd since Heaven’s never had nudity and Seikon no Qwaser had an overdose, I’m surprised Sekirei wasn’t on that list.

    agr0n
    1. Heh, you’re not the first who thought this is an April’s Fool joke 😉
Sekirei almost made the list. Fan service isn’t always about boobs. Sora no Otoshimono has its unique charm that makes it so sexy :3

      Seishun
  20. Add a white spotted hat on that anime profile picture…and you will get Trafalgar Law. Welcome on board. Good to see that Random C is restarting the coverage on One Piece’s Manga chapters.

    Chris
  21. 3 cheers for a new member in RC…Hip Hip Hooray x3~
Now the RC title banner needs a new chibi character. ^_^ I look forward to the what you have in store for us from your posts.

  22. That is very true. This website is more popular than SeventhStyle. Not to mention in a disrespectful way but everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but when it comes to SeventhStyle, it just trolls on everything especially with popular anime series like Sword Art Online and Guilty Crown – the site generally trolls by talking trash and exaggerating the series and calling them a “loser” “wimp” “faggot” “no life kid” in the article for no apparent reason. And yet, the SeventhStyle website has been running for almost two years with only “5 followers”. Though people do visit, hardly ever enjoy the articles, they don’t visit anymore.

I’m glad I found a website that shows positive aspects and have the anime community who loves a specific series that Random Curiosity displays and presents and to grow its community bigger every single day.

    alexsaingxd
  23. Not to mention about comparing anime websites, “Seven” of SeventhStyle (Administrator) edits all of the users who volunteered to write an article for whichever contents it may be but none of their writings are in there for somewhat reason. Though editorials are sometimes mandatory, at least fix its grammar. But I go on this website now because it’s great.

  24. Welcome Seishun! Hey is that iDOLM@STER and True Tears I see in your list? Not to mention that you’re geared towards mecha too? I like your tastes already! And thanks One-Piece is back in RC.

    Zhinvu
      1. Great choices! My top 3 are Takane, Makoto, and Azusa. I still like them all though and I’m especially impressed on how Iori was in the anime. Really glad Divine picked up iM@S back then.

        Zhinvu
  25. Welcome and as a Sci-fi and action nut I’ll likely be reading a lot from you in the future, but lets start with Kakumeiki Valvrave and Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince!!!

Also as you can tell from my avatar I’m huge macross frontier fan as well. Always nice to see another fan.

I go off and on with manga (I hate the wait, I rather backlogue a few months and read a marathon), but I’m glad someone finally getting back into one piece. Thanks for covering this. It’s a daunting task but I appreciate all who contribute to this shonen behemoth.

    Sherylfan
  26. Hi, Welcome. Glad to have you aboard. I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on Valvrave. Wish you all the very best with your future endeavors bro(It’s a bro right?).

    Swarz
  27. 21 and six halves out of 40, if you count sequels, that I’ve watched and you’ve listed. Pretty good odds there, if you ask me. The halves I haven’t finished yet.

Welcome aboard mate! I tend to browse a lot, but not post a lot from wherever I may be at the time (Louisville Kentucky today). Also, why are you calling Stilts Aniki?

    Kioku from Laptop
  28. Welcome! I look forward to reading your posts. On a side note I miss the days when it was just 2 insanely devoted writers (Omni, divine) on the site and I didn’t have to deal with the quirks of 5+ different writers.

    Jin
    1. Yeah, I get what you mean. But on the bright side, you have more choices now than before and we have the manpower to take on more series, OVAs, movies, mangas etc. Oh and don’t forget the Podcasts, those wouldn’t have be possible if there were only two writers 😉
