The end of the year is here and it’s time for the Eighth Annual Reader’s Choice poll! Do you have a favorite series you’d like to see win? Are you just curious to see what everyone else enjoyed this year? Either way, the microphone’s in your hands now. Make your vote count.

As per the usual, there will be two polls for you to vote on this year – one for regularly broadcast TV series, and another for OVA/movies. We’re asking you for your top 5 picks in each poll, which should stop the results from being heavily skewed towards the mega-popular shows. This year we have an astounding 160~ TV series (shorts are included this year) and 120~ OVA/movies/specials for you to choose from, so make sure you look over the entire list before deciding. Keep in mind that like all entertainment, anime is subjective. There is no one size fits all here. Please respect the opinions of others, even if you may disagree vehemently with them.

Criteria-wise, the following is what was used to decide what shows did (or did not) make it onto these lists:

  • For a regular broadcast TV series to be considered, it has to have finished airing in 2013. The idea is that you can’t truly judge a series until it’s over, so shows such as Golden Time, Kill la Kill, Space Bros, and Log Horizon. will appear on next year’s poll. Series with a second season coming but a clear stopping point in the one we’ve already seen are included.
  • For OVA/movies, it has to have been released on Blu-ray/DVD in 2013 to qualify, ensuring that viewers outside of Japan have had a chance to watch it. This mostly pertains to theatrical offerings. The difference from TV series is that they don’t necessarily have to be complete to be included, since it can take several years for an OVA series to finish. That’s why Gundam Unicorn is appearing again this year.

As far as we’re aware, the anime series list is complete, barring a handful of shows that are animated but unlike “typical” anime. The OVA/movie list is less so, but this is by design; there are lot of really niche OVAs that aren’t really worth considering. However, if you feel there’s something that deserves consideration, please leave a comment or send me (Zephyr) or Stilts an email (email works best) and one of one will add it.

With that said, vote away. Time’s ticking.

Note: The polls will close at midnight PST on Thursday, January 2nd. This means the morning of the 3rd, or 8:00 AM GMT on the 3rd. Results will be posted in the Best of Anime 2013 post, which will be written by myself and Stilts (the two active writers who have watched the most anime this year).

      1. Five bucks saying that deVaras has not even watched Gundam Build Fighters and is just complaining based on initial announcements.

So far, from the consensus on sites such as MyAnimeList and Animesuki, it is actually quite the nostalgia trip for all Gundam fans. The true return to boyish Gundam charm that Gundam AGE failed at.

      1. You could go for 10 next time. Should increase the chances of people picking others series.
Though that would also means the chances for the top dog to win by a bigger landslide that way isn’t impossible then..

      2. On another note, aren’t movies usually much longer than OVAs?
Those 2 should be in separate polls I think. 🙂

I think you left out an OVA btw.
I looked for the name under alphabet(s) A, and S, but didn’t find it.

      3. Well, I really wanted to add a couple of anime to my five choices …

        @RC Writers and Admins:
having 4 seasons, the 5 anime limit is more or less like choosing the best anime of each season. Why not raising the limit to 8 so we could choose two anime for each season (as an average), and compensate the increased statistical inaccuracy by implementing a “weighting” system for the choices ?

It’s just an idea you may want to discuss. Setting the limit too high without weighting (rankning) the user choices would invalidate the poll (at the limit, with full 160 choices the poll would be mathematically meaningless), but from the users’ comments I read here and there, it looks like we anime viewers have generally a pretty clear idea of what our favourite anime of the year ranking is, so why not employing that for the actual ranking …

I know that it would require some :effort: but it may be worth it (but I’m not in any way an expert in statistics so feel free to insult me as a response :).

Thanks anyway, this year too, for all you writers have done for this community and all your own time you spent for us. Many have already said that, but I really wanted to add my own thanks to the best anime-mates I could wish for.
        Have a wonderful new year

        Voyager
      4. @Techim

        Shingeki OVA added.

And mmm, the average OVA is about 20-30 mins. Movies range from 45 minutes to 2 hours. Depends on what you’re comparing eh.

As for separating the two… I don’t know. There aren’t exactly that many movies to pick from if you consider a calendar year, and not many people watch all the OVA that come out in a given year either. I don’t know how well the polls would represent the “best” of them if we were to separate them.

        @Voyager

Hmmmm… I don’t know about extending the # of picks. Part of the onus is to force you to really decide regardless of season, and we typically get a pretty nice spread regardless of the fact there’s usually some kind of landslide winner.

      5. Adding on to Voyager’s idea, maybe you guys could implement a “Best of ____ Season poll” starting 2014. Then for the AOTY poll just put in the top 15-20 names for both series & ova/movies that you got from each season…which would mean you could filter AOTY candidates down to 60-80 names instead.
That’s the advantages I can think of..

As for disadvantages though…yeah, more work for you guys.
And inevitably if implemented that would make Autumn Season’s poll very cramped/rushed to make way for the AOTY poll (1 week difference or less, I suppose).

On another note, if MAL rankings are to be a benchmark, Shingeki no Kyojin, Monogatari S2 & Steins Gate movie are all in the Top 30….wait a minute. A Gintama movie has surpassed FMA:Brotherhood to take top spot?

        Techim
      6. @Zephir
That’s ok, it’ll be meaningful either way. I’m looking forward to the results, I’m very curious to know how this community is oriented.

        @Techim
Personally, I think your idea about a per-season poll is very interesting, if nothing else, it’ll be less unfair regard to the shows that aired earlier in the year … I’m afraid people tend to be biased towards the latest shows that they enjoyed. We’ll know if that’s true by looking at the results, later

        Voyager
      1. The official name’s still 3.0 though. Theoretically… it could be Q Quickening too. But eh, the big thing is people know what it is when they’re voting for it so it’s alright for our purposes either way. XD

      1. It’s still not an official BD/DVD release, which is how RC’s criteria has been for a while.

And yes, while some of us did watch it in theaters (myself included), I hesitate to say that encompasses a majority of all the people that planned to or will watch it (especially when you consider how fast the tickets sold out). As such, it’s probably not going to be a proper representation even if we decided to ignore the typical criteria, and it makes no sense to include it here at this time.

  2. gosh, that was a huge number of anime to choose from. I’m gonna choose a very hipster list that is devoid of all the big names 😀
    1. Outbreak Company
    2. Hataraku Maou-sama
    3. Danganronpa
    4. Little Busters! Refrain
    5. Sakurasou no Pet no Kanojo

    1. Yeah, the soundtrack was absolutely awful, the animation sucked ass, the story was so boring and uninspired, nothing happened in this series at all, except – NOT.
Seriously, it might not be everyones cup of tea, but you certainly dont have to be afraid of it being the winner of this poll. Fairy tail or some cheap fanservice show – Id get that, but SnK?

      Libélula
      1. Okay, now you’re being brain dead. It essentially had the best of everything you just denounced it for. The only issue I saw in it was the constant cliff hangers at every ep and slow pacing during some arcs (though its understandable they had to do it to fill the final episode quota). It was good, but the hype died down in me after a month.

        SDFGS
  3. I’m just not going to vote for Shingeki. I mean I love it in all, but its clear that its going to win and we already know what people and the reviewers think of the show so I’d rather have another show take its place so we can hear what the RC people have to say about it (and commence the downvotes by rapid AOT fans!)

  8. I’ve seen about 50 series for all the seasons in the entire year combined…
    Here’s my pick:

Top choices (what i would recommend to the uninitiated)
    Ars Nova
    Hataraku Maou Sama
    Suisei no Gargantia
    Psycho Pass
    Sakurasou

Also considered top but not really recommending since some genre is a bit to specific interests, (eg Gin no Saji for agriculture) or requires to have watched a previous season
Outbreak Company, Gin no Saji, Railgun S, TWGOK : Goddesses Arc, Monogatari S2, LB Refrain,
    Servant x Service

Wouldn’t really consider among the top, but still enjoyed
Date-A-Live, Noucome, Hentai Ouji, Mondaiji, Oregairu, High School DxD New, Danganronpa, Prisma Ilya, Blood Lad, Unbreakable Machine Doll

    Worst seen

  10. Just curious, how are you going to determine your awards this year? Are you going to poll the rest of the RC writers? Or just you two?

To be honest, at least in terms of coverage on the website, I would say this year you missed more shows that seem to pop up in people’s end year lists compared to previous years (just going by the posters above me I quickly counted Jojo, Kyousougiga, Yamato 2199 and White Album 2).

As for predictions: I am pretty sure that Titan will win the readers’ award by a landslide, which makes the poll not very interesting to me (not personally my choice, but it’s hard to argue against its popularity). I am much more interested in seeing the website’s award for best show of the year, since at least Zephyr made it clear in his final impression post that Titan isn’t his choice.

    Steelman
    1. Awards are determined by me and Stilts fighting it out with our lists since we watched the most series by far out of the writers here (Enzo does his own on his site). The best of anime/movie/ova however, will be done on an individual basis, and each writer that wants to submit a list/explanation can do so if they want. We’ll also be including a list of shows each writer who submits a best of watched for reference.

As for coverage, that’s true, but there… were a lot of different circumstances at hand for each of the individual shows. That doesn’t mean that they weren’t watched by either Stilts or I though, so they won’t be excluded from the awards consideration.

  11. Shin Sekai Yori
    Shingeki no Kyojin
    Monogatari 2
    Fate / Kaleid
    Gin no Saji

    Steins;Gate
    Gundam Unicorn
    Nisemonogatari
Toaru Majutsu no Index: Endymion no Kiseki
    Ao no Exorcist Movie

I don’t really have an order for them though.

    Hobreezy
    1. You should watch Toaru Majutu no Index-tan: Endymion no Kiseki then..
OVA (or ONA? not sure) that pokes fun at some of the movie’s plot & indirectly hints about the Toaru franchise near the end..

      Techim
  12. My picks (couldn’t make up my mind for the fifth one): the exhilarating Hataraku Mahou-sama!, the ever-thrilling Zetsuen no Tempest, the amazing Psycho-Pass, and finally Monogatari Series Second Season (this one doesn’t need any explanation, does it?)

One thing I noticed is that, apart from the masterpieces above, and other shows which were very enjoyable and entertaining (like Railgun, TWGOK, YQ, Gargantia…) this year was also full of shows that disappointigly fell well below initial expectations, at least for me; just to name a few: Kyoukai no Kanata, Robotics;Notes, Devil Survivor 2. Wow.

    lorenzo
  13. Ahh…

I only picked one for AOTY,

    White Album 2

Shame it was bogged down by the dogma created by the first season, as I can see from the above comments, it doesn’t seem like it’s received much attention.

    flCer
    1. I voted for it in my top 5. Episode 13 in particular really made it special (and grating, which I take as a sign that it’s a well made show) for me. Unfortunately, it’s likely not going to come even close to the top, like you said.

      Tre
  14. Hataraku Maou-sama
    Servant Service
    Psycho Pass
    Suisei no Gargantia
    Monogatari S2

And before people flame me, my special mention is of course Shingeki no Kyoujin, since EVERYBODY’s talking about it. 😉

But personally, I liked these five choices of mine better, no offense, folks.

2013 is a good year for Urobuchi Gen, with two really good shows, as well as the cash cow that is the new Madoka Magica movie Rebellion.

  15. This was a great year for anime, at least for me. I liked a lot of stuff.

    Psycho Pass
    Zetsuen no Tempest
    Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo

  23. This technically isn’t the place for it, but I’d like to make a case for Hataraku Maou-sama for the Best Soundtrack in the Best of Anime 2013 post. At least, I sure hope it won’t get immediately dismissed in the category because it’s a comedy. That weirdly varied soundtrack between epic and stupid is what made the show for me (particularly in making that first episode one of the best introductions I’ve ever seen in any anime).

For anyone who wants to listen, the entire soundtrack is on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLg63avTCEAZ5aGZ4ht54XRHD_GcLQ0dgJ

    1. Nice choice. If we could choose the top 5 OST’s, mine would be (in no particular order): Uchouten Kazoku, Kyousougiga, Little Busters!, Suisei no Gargantia, and SnK. In all of them the music really contributed to the mood throughout, and I can listen to those OSTs (and others, like Maou-sama’s) on their ownsome.

  24. I see neither Highschool DxD New TV nor the EVA 3.33 movie in those lists.

    Voted for:
    Shingeki (best Shonen style anime),
    Shinsekai Yori (best horror),
    Railgun S (sisters arc),
Maou-sama (best comedy IMO and Hikasa Yoko with a standout performance as Emi),
Boku wa tomodachi next (best otaku/harem style series with a self aware male protagonist)

    And

Eva 3.33 (though worse than the first two)
Steins Gate movie (still th best male main character)
Gargantia OVA (due to the 2nd OVA that contains more of the dark Urobutcher stuff that I expected from the TV series)

  26. Best Anime: Very fucking hard choices to make.
    1. Shingeki no Kyojin
    2. Zetsuen no Tempest
    3. White Album 2
    4. Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
    5. Shin Sekai Yori

Between Shingeki and Zetsuen they were extremely hard. Both of them have such great characters in them. For action it would have to be Shingeki, but for characters, I would have to say Zetsuen. When I commented on Zetsuen months back, I pretty much praised the fuck out of Yoshino, Mahiro, Aika, and Hakaze every week.

-HS DxD New: Echi echi echi echi! (I want more)
-Hataraku maou-sama: Good laughs, good characters, good history, the best Maou never existed! (I want more)
-Maoyuu: No words, incredible history, politicy, economy, before this anime we all were more “humans” and less insects. So short. (I want more)

    1. 1. Yamato -Because it’s absolutely perfect to the very end, and I love Aya Hisakawa.
      2. Hataraku Maou -Because nothing made me laugh as much and the entire voice cast was on fire.
      3. Kyousougiga -Because, wow, have you seen Kyousougiga? And also I love Aya Hisakawa.
      4. WA2 -A master class in romantic drama.
      5. Gin no sagi -Because of its all-round competence and entertainment value.

I need to make a special mention to Arpeggio because of the Best Ship, Takao, Ponytail of the Year winner.

  27. Read their poll policy again
For a regular broadcast TV series to be considered, it has to have finished airing in 2013. The idea is that you can’t truly judge a series until it’s over, so shows such as Golden Time, Kill la Kill, Space Bros, and Log Horizon. will appear on next year’s poll
That would also mean series which debuted last year in Oct 2012 like Psycho Pass, Sakurasou, Little Busters, Zetsuen no Tempest and ended around March 2013 should be in this year’s poll, in which they are.

    Techim
    1. Majestic Prince

You’re going to unpick MP? Why? It’s one of the best mecha shows this year. If I were to pick the top three of them:

      MP > Valvrave > Gargantia

It’s too bad Gundam Build Fighters will be for next year. It’s just as good as MP(with out the CG).

      TheMoondoggie
      1. I was never going to unpick Majestic Pick, that was the only anime from that entire season that I had no problems with. It’s my favorite of 2013.

Gundam Build Fighters is good, it shouldn’t be on the list though because it’s not finished yet ;p

  28. Wow, where are all those fans of Shinsekai Yori coming from? When it aired, there were barely any comments about it…

shinsekai yori, shingeki no kyojin, uchouten kazoku, hataraku maou-sama – I love all 4 of em

    Libélula
    1. Absolutely loved Shinsekai Yori. Such gripping characters. Saki’s torn nature and bravery, Squealer’s ruthlessness and determination, Kiroumaru’s grace, resignation, and underlying viciousness. Although it started out subdued, you always felt the tension throught the show.
Shingeki no kyojin was just ridiculously thrilling but the story seems to have just revealed the tip of the iceberg (not a manga reader). Uchouten Kazoku’s characters and interaction was the most fun thing I’ve seen in a while; I loved almost every single character (especially Akadama Sensei) and loved to hate Benten.

    2. Well obviously since it’s a good anime, there are a many who watched it, but you’re right about it not being THAT popular. The reason you see it so much is because many people felt the same way as you, and wanted people to know that it was a good anime, so they’re more likely to post their list.

  30. Da best:
    1. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – manly, cool and totally EPIC. Totally loved this show, I was going to read the manga, but well – there just wasn’t time for that. Now im waiting for Stardust Crusaders.
    2. Monogatari Series: Second Season – I haven’t finished it yet, but it was nice to see those characters again and get some new, totally cool stories. The first arc wasn’t so good but the rest (for now) is just glorious.
    3. Gin no Saji – that was a really brillant, as expected from Hiromu Arakawa. Great and fresh slice of lice, good that s2 is coming now. And good that manga is available in my country.
    4. Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta – it just have everything – action, fanservice, great story, animation and music. But characters are just the best! I love them. Haven’t watched last episode yet, but I hope there’ll be 2nd season. If not – im going with manga.
    5. Kakumeiki Valvrave – it was so funny… but epic too! The whole idea is so messed up. Sunrise – you totally nailed it!

    Dissapointments:
    1. Danganronpa: The Animation – i loved the game. Truly. But the adaptation… was just wrong. In every single piece, that was just piece of junk. Wasn’t expecting anything, because of it’s lenght (13 episodes? Seriosly?!) but it was just terrible. One good thing: opening. It was great.
    2. Little Busters! (including Refrain) – it’s the same case as Danganronpa – loved the game, hated the adaptation. It wasn’t so bad but… it should be a lot better! First season sucked seriosly, Refrain was okay. But just okay isn’t enough, VN was worth 11/10!
    3. Aku no Hana – aww man. I’ve read manga before and was totally hyped for anime. But then – I saw it. Then… I dropped it. Graphics killed it.
    4. Shingeki no Kyojin – not a big dissapointment, because it was good. Very good! But still not as good, as manga.
    5. Devil Survivor 2: The Animation – not really a dissapointment, because I haven’t expected anything from it… but that was terrible! First episode was kinda good, but the rest – omigod, I think that was the worst series of the year.

  31. 1. Shinsekai Yori. This was truly epic.
    2. Monogatari: Second Season. Liked it better than Bakemonogatari. Also Kaiki best girl!
    3. Shingeki no Kyoujin. I don’t think I need to add anything for this one
    4. Fairy Tail. I am a fairy tail fan :3
    5. Suisei no Gargantia. In combination with the OVA it was a very nice story, one of the underapreciated series.

I want to add so many more to my list, but I have to choose >:
    Therefor, honorable mentions to:

    -Bakuman 3
    -Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
    -Uchouten Kazoku
-Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Com wa Machigatteiru

  33. THIS. This poll is what I’ve been waiting for this entire year. The list I’ve been thinking through and glad that I’ve been able to watch just in time for the poll. Out of almost a hundred shows I’ve been watching this past year, I wholeheartedly chose the best shows that made the best times of my life:

    1. Hataraku! Maou-sama
    2. Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
    3. Shinsekai Yori
    4. OreImo.
    5. Magi

Boy, am I so glad that I was able to marathon and barely finish all the episodes of Shinsekai YESTERDAY. Talk about close. If it weren’t on my list, I would be forced to choose between these which also made my days:

    Monogatari Series 2
    Gin no Saji
    Love Live! School Idol Project
    Outbreak Co.

And as for my OVA list, this couldn’t have been my final list if it weren’t for some who are still RAW in the Net. -_- forgive me for not watching non-subbed anime but it’s just taking away the fun in it…

    1. Oregairu OVA
    2. HighSchool DxD OVA
    3. Chu2Koi OVA
    4. ToLoveRu Darkness OVA
    5. Accel World OVA

Still haven’t watched Madoka & Code Geass movies so I kinda regret making this my final OVA List…

  34. My Favorite TV series this year:
Watamote, Shinsekai Yori, Little Busters Refrain, Zetsuen no Tempest

    Honorable Mention:
Chihayafuru 2, Servant x Service, Shingeki no kyojin

    OVAs/Movies
    – Kotonoha no Niwa
    – Otona Joshi no Anime Time
    – Shingeki no Kyojin OVA

  35. If we’re talking about worst shows it would be unfair to rate the dropped shows, suffice to say Watamote, Freezing and Coppelion were dropped due to lack of interest and/or being garbage.

Worst show I watched to the very end: IS2 which would have been dropped if it didn’t have Tatenashi in it. Worst show that I actually kinda liked: Walkure because I played the games and the prick teasing humour was so bad it was good.

  36. IS2 for BEST ANIME/PROTAGONIST EVER!!!

Now that I got the trolling outta my system, my choices in no particular order
Zetsuen no Tempest, Oregairu, Haganai NEXT, Servant x Service, and Little Busters + Refrain.

    Honorable Mentions;
Sakurasou (didn’t see while voting, might have bumped one of the above)
Shingeki (don’t think I need to explain)
High School DxD New (second ED lives up the the first season one)
Kaminomi: Megami-hen (Did a fairly good job of adapting, though they skipped a few important conquests between the 2nd and this (3rd) season that would lessen the impact for anime-only viewers)
Monogatari Second Season (great characters and head tilts)

    Long live Ichika!!!!

  37. This wasn’t a very good year… Some good shows and that’s it. Evangelion 3.0 was a HUGE disappointment.

    My top:

    1. Gingitsune

    Arpeggio:
Manga readers may complain about it, but for me it’s gold

    High school DXD New
When the sequel exceeds the (already good) 1st series.

    Date A Live
It felt like a CM for the LN but it was pretty good. Kotori best sister ever.

    OreShura
the “no panties” gag in the 1st ep was pretty much pointless but it features a really nice art style, not so much H and the best childhood friend(s) in years of harem anime.

    Hataraku Maou-Sama: refreshing, yeah!

    Honorable mention:

Kami Nomi 3 . Goddess Arc
they skipped material but I really enjoyed.

    Railgun S
When the sequel of the spinoff makes the first series of the main story literally disappear.

Didn’t watch. Waiting for dub physical release (cause I was pretty sure they’d rocked)

    WTFs of the year

    Coppelion
really, WTF!? And it’s based on a pretty long manga…

Courtesy of Zettai Karen Children – The Unlimited Hyobu Kyosuke.
I’m a ‘Zettai Karen Children’ fan and this felt like a waste of money they could have used for a 2nd season or a OVA series. But no, they had to go for a fujoshi show instead. Tch.

    Blue Exorcist Movie
Usual “meet the girl/boy/child and protect her/him”. man, I wonder if these shonen anime writers aren’t able to come up with something other than this overused kind of story

and last but not least disappointing anime of the year…
    ***INDEX – THE MOVIE***
Usual money maker. The hole “miracle” thing was really annoyed. I enjoyed the omake though.

    TurnAround
  39. I voted for:

    1. Uchouten Kazoku – a series which did everything right, basically. It did exactly what it set out to do, and it did it in style and with an incredibly sense of a laid-back atmosphere.

    2. Shin Sekai Yori – well-written, compelling and atmospheric. It’s rare to get a series that pulls off horror this well, nor one which deals so well with shades of grey and situations where there is no good decision. Saki was a great main character. There are a few small flaws in the adaptation, but they don’t detract much.

    3. Kyousougiga – brilliant characterisation, lovely art, and a coherent plot which is actually resolved well. This is another one which did everything right.

    4. Chihayafuru 2 – this series is golden. Great characters, great tension at the matches.

    5. Ixion Saga DT – which is just an incredibly funny series with an entertaining setting and eventually strangely endearing characters. I laughed at this one a lot. It’s a rare gem.

Honourable mentions I didn’t vote for:

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – glorious, fabulous, and a classic. What a great adaptation.
Zetsuen no Tempest – atmospheric and interesting, with a great plot twist, great characters, and a genre change that it managed to pull off without breaking the show.
Gatchaman Crowds – individual, quirky and fun, putting the limited time it had available to spend on the characters to good use.

  40. Anime:
    1. Hataraku Maou-sama
    2. Yahari
    3. Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio Ars Nova
    4. Date A Live
    5. Monogatari Series 2

Top two being the most entertaining animes I have watched, AHnA being such a refreshing anime to watch, Date a Live with no particular reason ( I just love it)
and Monogatari Series being Monogatari series, I really need not to say anything, it’s just great.

5 votes are just not enough to vote for animes I enjoyed.

  41. 1. Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru.
    2. Suisei No Gargantia
    3. Zetsuen No Tempest
    4. Hataraku Maou-sama
    5. Kakumeiki Valvrave

In that order. Abstained from OVA/Movie because I didn’t watch any (!, I’m shocked myself at the realization). May Hachiman win, bless be the Batman.

  42. Weeee,let’s begin:

    1.Aku no Hana
    2.Infinite Stratos 2
    3.Coppelion
    4.Kimi no Iru Machi
    5.OreImo 2

    Okay,jokes aside,here are my top 5:

1.White Album 2 – Probably the best romance to come out in years and my choice for AOTY. It has one of the best relationship development between the main characters I saw and a great atmosphere too! Very underwatched because of the “2” in it’s tittle.Very much looking forward to a 2nd season which I hear has a fair chance of happening! Depending how it goes, just make this my favorite romance of all time.

2.Psycho-Pass – I love UroButcher’s work when he really gets down to it and he most certainly did with this show. Had one of the greatest villains of all time. Also looking forward to the confirmed 2nd season where I’ll most likely end up depressed for a while after it ends because Gen will inevitably kill off Kougami, just like he killed Reiji in Phantom. I just know he will.

3.Hataraku! Maou-Sama – This anime is a pure example of a show that is really far from being unique but is executed so well and the characters are so entertaining that it’s impossible not to like it. Again, looking forward to a sure to come 2nd season!

4.Zetsuen no Tempest – A great work by BONES that I don’t see being surpassed by Space Dandy or Noragami but will probably get overshadowed by them anyway.I find this show to be quite underrated and I really don’t see why. It looks great, has good action scenes,a good plot & most importantly,a really good cast of main & supporting characters. It had a nice, conclusive ending too.

5.Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru – This one is a few steps below the four above but it might just have my favorite MC of 2013. Let’s not kid ourselves here, despite the show being pretty decent overall, most of us watched & liked this for Hachiman, the dark knight of highschool but with a protag like Hiki, that’s sometimes all you need. I love a 2nd season of this too but I’m not gonna hold my breath here.

    Honorable mentions:

    Monogatari 2nd
    Shin Sekai Yori
Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT!
    Highschool DxD NEW
    Blood Lad
    Shingeki No Kyoujin
Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru
    Kakumeiki Valvrave
(still has a sh1tty ending though)

Overall,a pretty good year. The only complaint I’d have would be the abundance of loli/moe shows mainly during the spring & summer seasons but otherwise, I’m quite content with what we had in 2013. See you guys next year!

  43. My picks:

    -Hataraku Maou-sama
    -Suisei no Gargantia
    -Gatchaman Crowds
    -Uchuten Kazoku
    -Outbreak Company

Valvrave may have made it to my personal list have it not been for the less than satisfactory ending….unless of course, they plan to make a sequel(be it 3rd season, Ova or movie) just to at least try to fix it.

  45. I voted for

    -Chihayafuru 2 (needs a S3)
-Gin no Saji (Comical, relaxing, IMHO better than Galilei Donna)
-Oregairu (biggest pleasant surprise, psychologically stimulating)
    -Gingitsune (excellent SOL)
-Kakumeiki Valvrave (Because it’s still VALVRAVE, despite the less than satisfactory ending)

  46. my picks:
Aoki hagane no Arpeggio – for epic naval battles with underlying existential questions of the living weapons.
Kakumeiki Valvrave – or rather, L-11, for being best co-protagonist ever! Grand scale political chess game is good too.
Psycho-pass – for taking modern security and surveillance of the risk-averse society to its logical conclusion.
Suisei no Gargantia – for crossing over epic mecha action with political/philosophical questions about war, peace, coexistence and the best AI-controlled mecha ever. RIP, Chamber!
Zetsuen no Tempest – for bringing us epic adventure mixed with philosophical questions and spiced up with Shakespeare quotes!

  47. I voted:

    1. White Album 2 – Not for people who don’t like mature romance/drama or who are narrow minded/idealistic/overtly moralistic in terms of any relationship

    2. Oregairu – Not for people who are socially adept, outgoing personality. Seriously save yourself from annoyance with the MC

    3. Zetsuen no Tempest – Not for people who generally don’t appreciate classic literary works

    4. Sakurasou – Not for people who don’t understand hard work or possibly genius / talented folks

    5. High School DxD New – Obviously not for ecchi haters and elitist cause they this kind of show is garbage

(on regards to 5, I always reserve pick for ecchi anime that I really enjoyed watching. Whether it deserves it to be AOTY or not, it has low probability to be picked anyway so it just serve for a variety of sort)

    Legress
  48. My votes for the top 5 series of 2013:

1.) Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio ~Ars Nova~ – Whether this is better or worse than the manga remains a big YMMV, but kudos to the anime for wrapping up a plot point that hasn’t been resolved yet in the manga. Specifically:
    Show Spoiler ▼

And I want to nominate nano’s “Silver Sky” for best anime song of the year.

2.) Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 – A beloved franchise gets the mother of all reboots (with an animation update and an all-star seiyuu cast!) and manages to introduce a new generation to this classic space opera anime. (If only the same could be done for the first Gundam… *sigh*)

3.) Outbreak Company – Outlandish premise (an otaku preaching his “culture” in a parallel fantasy world), manages to be enjoyable to watch anyway. And while it does explore the implications of the premise, it doesn’t get too serious. Also, Myucel.

4.) Little Busters! – I don’t know if those who wanted Little Busters to be animated by KyoAni are still out there, but save for a few die-hard holdouts, JC Staff’s adaptation seems to have silenced those naysayers. And that silence will be deeper now that the EX routes (Sasami, Kanata and Saya) are confirmed to have OAVs.

5.) High School DxD NEW – While I’m reluctant to vote for “guilty pleasure”/fanservice anime, only High School DxD NEW went above and beyond the call of duty…where other series in the same category eventually proved lacking or just plain fizzled out. (Looking at you, Infinite Stratos 2!)

Honorable mentions: Aiura, Gin no Saiji, Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, Servant x Service, Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince, Attack on Titan, Uchouten Kazoku, Gatchaman Crowds, Genshiken Nidaime

    And I also really enjoyed:
Danboru Senki Wars, Jojo’s, Maoyuu Mao Yuusha, Little Busters!, Mushibugyou, Senyuu., Yama no Susume, Super Seishun Brothers

Best Movie: Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge, Evangelion 3

  51. 1) Psycho-pass
    2) Shinsekai Yori
    3) Monogatari S2
    4) Shingeki no Kyojin
    5) Blood Lad (ha!)

With so much harem, ecchi and fanservice (oh the cancer!) the choice was quite obvious. Monogatari is still pretty good, after all these years.
I liked Blood Lad for Bell (her own anime when?!) and SFXs, lol. A typical, exciting shounen anime, though not as exciting and awesome as Shingeki no Kyojin.
Shinsekai Yori showed us that anime can still be unpredictable. Killing the main characters, timeskips, also, all the mystieries, a great OSTas well!
Buuut, the best OST award goes to Psycho-Pass, which was like a mix of Ghost in the Shell (cyber brains) and Darker Than Black (Kanno Yoko, the main guy is on the run from the organization) with some new elements too.

Can’t wait for the sequels of the mentioned anime (or prequels… Kizumono god damn it!).

    2. Ginga kikoutai majestic prince (the story and the action is just awesome)
    3. Date a live (loved the novel and the anime is just as i imagined)
    4. Oregairu (same as date a live)
    5. Shingeki no kyoujin (it sticks to its manga consistently)

  56. Its going to be really tough picking the best anime of 2013 because honestly there isn’t any anime that stood out for me unlike last year and 2011.
I dislike the scenes where characters are over-referencing other great works in Psycho Pass.
Found Gargantia good but not great enough
Didn’t care much for the characters in Attack On Titan.
I haven’t seen the ending of Valvrave yet so I’m gonna have to check that out soon.
Wished that Majestic Prince had a greater story to tell despite having the year’s best action.
So overall, not that great of a year for anime in my opinion. Hopefully, next year will be a better year for anime especially with the upcoming fate project by ufotable.

  59. Really needed a 6th pick here, had to give it to Outbreak Company over Mondai-Ji-tachi though, so mine goes

    1. Ars Nova
    2. Shin Sekai Yori
    3. Sakurasou Pet
    4. Fate Prism Illya
    5. Outbreak Company

People really shouldnt forget about the earlier ones this year in the votes I hope, especially Shin Sekai Yori – which IMO is one of the greatest works in our recent history

    Thundershock81
  60. 5 votes… I feel there was more quality than quantity this year and there are more than five that I would recommend as a top show of the year. Oh well.

Which reminds me, was there an actual pure Romance genre that aired this season outside of White Album 2? There was a ton of RomComs, but don’t tell me WA2 wins by default…

    J_the_Man
  61. I didn’t find anything that stood out for this year. Nothing for me to root for so I’m not placing a vote. However I did enjoy a lot more shows compared to last year.

Shows I have thoroughly enjoyed this year,
    GBF(on going)
    Outbreak Company
    Free!
    Log Horizon (on going)
    Kiniro Mosiac
    Love Live
    Love Lab

  62. I had a clear 5 in mind until I remembered that there were some 2-cour shows that carried over from last year! Had to rethink and chose the following (not in any order):
    1) Sakura-sou Pet no Kanajo
    2) Psycho Pass
    3) Kyousougiga
    4) Outbreak Company
    5) Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya

Question – shouldn’t Girls und Panzer be included? The first 10 episodes aired last year, but weren’t the last 2 episodes delayed until March of this year? If it was that would’ve been in my top 5 🙁

    Taiakun
    1. I would agree it is one of the better ones this year. Certainly, in my opinion, far better than SnK (though I don’t rate SnK highly for one). The audience for Sasami is basically separated into two groups: one either likes it or one doesn’t, there be no way between.

      Actus
    2. Ofc, it’s not the best SHAFT ever made, but still it was more than decent story, lunacy that was shaftish enough, nice animation, cute MC and endings matching concept of the whole anime (and nice tune for OP too).

  63. Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
    PSYCHO-PASS
    Monogatari Series: Second Season

  65. In no particular order:

TV series: Monogatari S2, Uchouten Kazoku, Watamote (and Kill la Kill as a honorable mention since it’s not finished yet)

OVA: Little Witch Academia, Nekomonogatari Kuro

    Dodgers
  66. 1. Shinsekai Yori (for me, Shinsekai yori and SnK are masterpieces and are both #1 for me but i’m putting Shinsekai yori 1st because it’s completed. and yes, the ending was one of a kind and beautiful in it’s own way despite the multiple deaths.)

    2. Shingeki no Kyojin (everything was epic!!)

    3. Psycho-Pass (unique plotline! and amazing characters)

    4. Dangan Ronpa (i enjoyed the show)

    5. Zetusuen no Tempest (worth the watch)

  69. Bit different from the usual lists I am looking right now at the rest of the posts. My line up is based upon strong characters, memorable feeling of ‘ey, that was nice!’ and the itchy feelings of ‘cant wait for the next epi!!

    My top 5

    1) High School DxD (Surprised? well its me who is surprised that nobody mentioned DxD lol. Fan-service with plot, imo this S2 of DxD was really well made. Chemistry between both the older and newer characters were explicitly and lovingly potrayed as well as nice pacing of events while the plot thickened. Artwork and visual effects were really awesome. Top notch stuff, cant wait for S3.)

    2) Kakumeiki Valvrave (Well it had to be here, general public didn’t like this one’s ending, however one cant undermine that KV was a top notch make. Every week the viewers geared up with great anticipation for this and the show kept on delivering the goods. It was memorable in its own ways while the roller coaster went on. Original story, breathtaking visuals, so-so character interactions, and many ‘aww man, why’d be like that?’ as well as ‘holy mother of heavens did u see that???’….. as many have said this one is sort of a mixed bag but thoroughly enjoyed one. L-11 will always be remembered as one of the coolest anti-heroes, while Saki will always be remembered as the best girl.)

    3) PSYCHO-PASS (Original story depicting some of the darkest themes of humanity. Even though it was creepy at times, this anime really left me a very strong impression. Breathtaking visuals, great character portrayals, pretty good action and ofc skin crawling thrillers and gore to add, this anime is probably my number 1 choice as 2013 best.)

    4) Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru (Simply because the male lead rocked. 8man 4ever)

    5) Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S (Just like majority of the folks, dropped this after ep 16. However ep 11-16 was truly memorable, touma was awesome, visuals were superb, all thanks to the director I guess cause eventhough it was just a retelling, the result was remarkable)

  71. Why isn’t the 3rd Madoka movie in the movie list??
Pretty certain it came out in October (which is this year) and I’m pretty sure I saw it earlier this December courtesy of Aniplex (which is also this year).
Not voting until it’s added to the list *pouts*.

  72. Voted for Best Anime 2013

-Gintama (2012) (There are 3 arcs in this and one of the arcs is probably one of the best so far and the laughs in this show is always given)
-Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen (The World God Only Knows is the most enjoyable manga for me and getting an anime is also good)
-Monogatari Series: Second Season (Not more to say to this every arc is so good and I want to call it a “TwiStory”. Best show in terms of twist)
-Shingeki no Kyojin (The animation and expression is the best in here, It always give you a satisfying feeling after an episode)

  73. Not the best of the years in my opinion. Is lacking a GREAT title, like Girls und Panzer or Madoka.

    Anyways, my favs are:

    Symphogear G
    Yuyushiki
    Kiniro Mosaic
    Non Non Biyori
    Jo Jo Bizarre Adventure

The three SOL are all adorable, funny and all ranks pretty high in the yuri-meter.
Symphogear G is crazy awesome as always.
    And JoJo is JoJo.

    For the OVA/Movie
The Madoka´s movies and the Saint Onii-san OVA.

  75. My Top 5 Animes in order:
    1. Zetsuen no Tempest — Full of surprises for two long seasons. I was never able to guess what the next episode was going to take the story.
    2. Suisei no Gargantia — “Go to Hell, tin can!” Humans drive themselves to extinction. But there is always hope.
    3. PSYCHO-PASS — Next stage of evolution of our government. And why we should pretend that it is good for us.
    4. Fairy Tail — Outstanding cast to draw out the full potential of the anime.
    5. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure — This whacky manga is really hard to adapt into anime. But the production team did the unthinkable.

Anime Regret’s: Shinsekai Yori — Really deserve to be among the Top 5.
Coppelion; Gin no Saji; Gingitsune; “Ginga e Kickoff!!”; Arata Kangatari; Magi; Mushibugyou; “Robotics;Notes”; Shingeki no Kyojin

Anime Sequels/Prequels/Re-make’s that I like very much but gave no vote (because I gave priorities to first-time appearances):
Chihayafuru 2; Bakuman 3; Initial D Fifth Stage; Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen; Rozen Maiden (2013); Kyousougiga; Monogatari Series: Second Season; Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san 2

My Top 5 OVAs in order: 1. Nekomonogatari (Kuro); 2. Ghost in the Shell ARISE; 3. Shingeki no Kyojin OVA; 4. Berserk: Ougon Jidaihen III – Kourin; 5. Evangelion 3.0

OVA Regret’s: Star Driver the Movie; Mirai Nikki Redial; Kyousogiga Dainidan; Saki: Achiga-hen – Episode of Side-A Specials; Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 1+2

    Best Thriller: Zetsuen no Tempest
    Runner-up: Shinsekai Yori

    Best Sci-fi: Suisei no Gargantia
    Runner-up: PSYCHO-PASS
    Honorable mentions: “Robotics;Notes”, Coppelion

Best Comedy/Slice of Life: Non Non Biyori — Never felt time past even though the stories are always about trivial things.
Runner-up: Servant x Service — Who thought working in the city hall would be so much fun?
    Honorable mention: Gin no Saji

    Best Manga Adaptation: Fairy Tail
    Runner-up: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Honorable mention: Chihayafuru 2 (In general, the character design in the anime is better than the manga.)

Biggest Disappointment: Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen — The series is in itself excellent. But it skipped too many crucial “conquests” to make a good transition. I understand that the production team made a hard choice due to financial reality. It is still a disappointment nonetheless.

    1. Yea man definitely one of the most under-watched gems of 2013. It’s unique that it also carries a similar theme of familial love of Kyousogiga, which also went out of everyone’s radar this year. They’re not exactly within the current otaku-centric market of the anime industry so their cult status is understandable but maan some form of recognition wouldn’t hurt.

      Great shout.

      1. Well, looking through to 2008, Div never did separate polls for each genre.

It just… doesn’t look practical. The poll’s big enough as is and hard enough to manage with just those two up there. I don’t think people would go through like 20 polls with 160~ shows on each either (it’d take up the length of like 40 normal length posts), and a lot of people that come here and look at the best of poll typically only focus on the overall thing.

Ideally it’d be nice. But realistically it’s… kinda insane.

  78. Im getting the feeling that the top 5 anime will be:
    1. ShinSekaiYori – this will be the top, naturally,
    2. Shingeki no Kyojin – come on, it has a big fanbase, not that its very good imo,
    3. Kyousougiga – the Surprise of the year, anyone who watched this will very likely include it
    4. Suisei no Gargantia – best mecha this season, also the most watched one,
    5. Hataraku Maou Sama – quite the refreshing anime, or
Zetsuen no Tempest – that plot twist.

    Trick or Threat.

  81. Looking through the list, I’ve realized what a weak year 2013 was. I can only easily hail Chihayafuru 2 as AOTY, with Monogatari landing on second place by a wide margin. And then:

    3) Servant x Service
    4) Sakurasou
    5) OreGaIru

Honorable mentions: Fate/Ilya, Maou-sama, Mondaiji-tachi, Shingeki, KamiNomi S3, Blood Lad, DanganRonpa, Gargantia, LB Refrain and Senyuu.

Movie/OVA: Chihayafuru OVA, Steins;Gate, Kotonoha no Niwa, Ookami Kodomo, Otona Joshi, Madoka Movie 1 and 2, Neko Kuro

2011 still wins by a mile.

  84. Due to the very busy RL, I watched very few series this year. So rather than a Top 10 list, may be a ‘Series I Actually Finish’ list.

    (Ranged according to preference)

    1. Gin no Saji > Inspired me to eat pizza for a month. Simply can’t imagine anything being improved as it is already bloody super good.

    2. Uchouten Kazoku > Genuinely enchanting, but I wish things were wrapped up better.

    3. Kyousougiga > Similar issues with No.2. Uchouten Kazoku was just more emotional for me.

    4. Kill la Kill > I know it technically doesn’t end yet, but the first half was darn entertaining to me, so I just want to put it here.

    5. Monogatari Season 2 > Between Kill la Kill and Monogatari, Monogatari is the better anime. Smarter. Better character. However, it occasionally felt a bit smug like the creators just want to show how smart they are rather than simply tell the goddamn story. I also like Araragi less as a character even though he used to be one of my favourite male characters.

    6. Hataraku Maou-sama > MUCH better than what it should be.

    7. Outbreak Company > Same thing with No.6

    8. Mondai-Ji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo > Not a good anime by any normal merit. The main character is so Gary Stu it hurts. However, it was light enough for a quick watch, and the creators seem to have fun with world buildings.

Dropped very close to finishing: Suisei no Gargantia

I watched a bunch of First Episodes and Second Episodes though, but most of them didn’t interest me enough to keep watching especially consider how little free time I had.

    Kaitune
  85. My voted selection (I had to choose something):
    Ginga e kick off
    Ginga Majestic Prince
    Jojo
    NouCome
    Shinsekai yori
(No Kingdom season 1 but we have Jojo? :P)

For the OVAs (there are lots I haven’t seen :3)
Ghost in the shell Arise (not finished, why here?)
    Gundam Unicorn ep.6
    Maken-ki (guilty pleasure… very guilty)
    Pokemon the Origin
    Saki: Achiga-hen (next season go!)

    Ebisu
  86. 1. Yahari Ore no Seishun(really fun to watch, hope to see more of this)
    2. Non non biyori(underrated, it was a really relaxing ride, has been a while..)
    3. Uchouten Kazoku(something bout this show keep caught my attention)
    4. Toaru railgun s(great animation as always)
    5. Sakurasou(the only good parts are at the near end)
    other nominees
    Hataraku Maou Sama(great show,had a fun ride)
Date a live(likeable characters but something was missing)
Kyokai no kanata(felt kinda rush in the end)

1/ Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future
    2/ Kakumeiki Valvrave
    3/ Psycho-Pass
    4/ Aikatsu!
    5/ Senyuu.

    Show Spoiler ▼

Sorry for nitpicking, and I know you guys have it tough. But why did you list Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live along with Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future? Dear My Future ended in April 2013. Rainbow Live is the 3rd season, and isn’t over yet. It should end in March 2014. I’m planning to vote for it next year, it’s almost just as good as Dear My Future so far. I hope the last cour will surpass it.
Rainbow Live is actually set in an alternate universe with completely new characters. The director himself said it’s okay to watch Rainbow Live even if you haven’t seen the first two seasons. If you want to try out Pretty Rhythm and only like watching shows when they air I highly suggest watching Rainbow Live.

  88. Man, selecting it down to 5 is just too hard, but these are my five.
There is no rank to them, just choices.
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru.
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S (especially the first half)
    Little Busters! ~Refrain~
    Shingeki no Kyojin
    Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Happy new year guys. Can’t wait for winter season anime to begin! WOOT!

      1. >my taste > you’re taste
Your statement is correct, but it doesn’t correspond with your action.

Going around the comments calling animes that you don’t enjoy overrated, or telling other that your taste is better and therefore their opinion is wrong.

Even on my comment, I was disappointed at myself that I totally forgot to put the Monogatari series on my list, and that I realized that after I voted, but then you come over and tell me that “it is better than anything else on my list”.

Now who is the, “people who are butthurt that their favorite show is not included on the list”?

I don’t really want to attack you or anything, but I just can’t understand why your action and this statement, that I am responding to, doesn’t correspond.

        xmn
      2. I’m not butthurt at all though, and I don’t downvote lists just because I disagree with them or because they are missing my favorite shows. I just posted my opinion. Why? Because I felt like it/because I was bored. There’s no need to take everything that is posted on the internet so serious.

You were wondering what to remove from your list in favor of Monogatari, and I replied that it doesn’t really matter because it is better than anything from your list anyway (obviously, that’s just my opinion). I didn’t mean to attack you or your taste, in fact I think your list is decent enough and I enjoyed the shows even though my list looks completely different than yours.

        my taste > you're taste

    1. Really happy to see Shinsekai Yori leading, a masterpiece that I would put on the same level as something like Serei no Moribito. It’s a great example of what anime can be when you aren’t simply trying to make a product that is mindless fun, which can be fun, but I love it when an anime tries to be something more.

      Bluth
      1. Serei is a bit different, less horror, but it has some similar elements in that there are strong charactersm and there are some similar supernatural elements. Personally I would say that Serei is the better anime, but I think that’s due to my preference for the main character (Balsa is probably one of the better female protagonists in the last 5 or so years of anime)

        Bluth
      2. Seirei no Moribito is my favorite anime of all-time, and I would argue the best. It’s not much like SSY apart from that they’re both non-commercial and brilliant, but if you admire great writing and gorgeous animation, art and music it’s hard to go wrong.

      3. In my opinion SSY falls slightly short of being a masterpiece (inconsistent style, quality issues, pacing issues around the middle). It would have been if A1 put more effort into it. It was still very good though.

      4. Yes, the lack of budget is quite apparent on SSY. But bear in mind A-1 gave two cours to a series they lost a bundle on (sales were atrocious) and I suspect they feared that would happen. In that sense it feels wrong to me to complain because I’m grateful they produced it at all. Also, if you look past the animation to things like art direction, cinematography and such – things that don’t cost anything but require talent – the show actually has a very distinctive and stylish quality. I think they did remarkably well visually given the money they had to work with.

      5. I’m not complaining. Just stating why I think it’s not quite a masterpiece.

Well, maybe it would have sold more if it didn’t have massive quality jumps (especially around the middle, episode 13 iirc was atrocious). Then again I doubt it would be much more anyway. It’s sad that such a good show sells so badly.

        >the show actually has a very distinctive and stylish quality. I think they did remarkably well visually given the money they had to work with.
        I agree.

      6. As Zephyr says, better animation quality wouldn’t have made a difference in sales. Anime producers are very risk averse nowadays, so anything that that breaks outside the specific, high-selling otaku mold will be handicapped before production has even started.

    2. Thanks for the effort to tally up all the votes in the comments! That’s a very interesting observation.

Predicting (postdicting?) from last year’s comments alone, Hyouka would have been a very likely winner of Reader’s Choice 2012. But it ended up winning the third spot. It remains to be seen whether the comments are representative of the general opinions.

      1. No problem. 🙂

My assumption is that those who cared to write their vote in a comment are (generally speaking) the more active ones, what would possibly make them to watch more anime during the year. This would mean that some less popular shows like Shinsekai Yori (in comparison to Shingeki no Kyoujin) have bigger representation here than at the overall list. But I can be wrong about it, it’s only guessing.

      1. I’ve already compared it for ya guys and have it ready for a quick copy and paste if ya guys want.

I’ll either post it here or in the comments in the actual post once it’s up. Though, I may forget, so someone just send me a tweet or email whenever they see the post up.

      2. Hmm I also think the comparizon would be more user friendly in the comments for official poll, without directing people to the old post. I’ll remind you Zephyr when we’ll talk about your personal top 10. 🙂

    1. What you called “melodramatic rubbish” is for mature people who appreciate subtle feelings. If you need “direct” stimuli, go watch Sekai De Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! I suspect that a few spanking may actually alleviate your boredom.

  95. Kakumeiki Valvrave / Valvrave the Liberator

I personally thought it was a great Anime. Took me on such a wildly emotional roller coaster. So, I would like to mention it, since it ended in 2013.

  96. My programmer is trying to persuade me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using WordPress on various websites for about a year and am concerned about switching to another platform. I have heard great things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can transfer all my wordpress posts into it? Any kind of help would be really appreciated!|
