And here we are. Two episodes from the end, we’ve got a recon mission gone terribly wrong, and a rescue attempt heading toward a similar conclusion. Izana might’ve done well to ensure the survival of her squad for the time being, but as with things in the Sidonia universe, what could go wrong usually does. We just didn’t know how bad it could get, and the return of Benisuzume highlights just how much is riding on this one fight—the lives of Sidonia’s top two pilots/weapons, the establishment of a base to combat the large hive cluster, and (indirectly) the entire Sidonia’s livelihood to boot.

There is a silver lining to it all however, and an alternative viewpoint is that things arguably can’t get any worse. Given the possibility that she could’ve shown up in the middle of combat with the large hive cluster instead, the fact that the recon and subsequent rescue discovers her first makes it a successful mission despite it being far from the original intention, and it’s a golden opportunity to finally take her down while simultaneously taking the battle data to modify their own weaponry (including the Hayakaze and the Tsugumori Mk. III).

That is, of course the optimistic view on things, and the question remains: how exactly would one go about defeating an enemy that nearly single-handedly demolished you the last time? The fact that she’s in a new, possibly more agile form makes the degree of difficulty that much harder, and it doesn’t help that she seems virtually impervious to even direct hits from Tsumugi. One would think that the new weapon that Kunato/Ochiai’s been constructing would come into play at this point, but judging from the way he’s reacted so far, it may not even be ready at this point. The fact that an early unveiling could jeopardize its usage in the hive cluster mission could loom large, and it’ll be quite something to see if Tanikaze + Tsumugi can find a way to turn things around. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take the death of one of major cast members to do it…

    1. qwert/ no way to get more of both, given that each season consists of 12 episodes.

And 3D fan service and any other otaku friendly stuff is annoying or just boring to most non-otaku.

    2. Ideally a balance between the action and the daily hi-jinks would work. S1 was trying to hit the battle highlights while skipping life on Sidonia and S2 has a lot of Tanikaze harem stuff. I think a 12 episode season limits what they could do.

    1. And you know what I loved about this episode? Yuhata´s face when they realized that nightmares never truly die. That reaction was gold! it twells you everything you need to know about Benisuzume, next I see carnage in the horizon, it took a miracle to kill that bitch last time and those don´t happen very often.

  1. Nice battle animation that leaves me completely filled when the ED finally plays, unlike some other anime. *cough*Owari no Seraph*cough*

Gotta give it to Sasaki and her engineers for how sturdy Mk. III was. Never mind the whole frame. What I want to give emphasis was on the cockpit. It just crashed like a meteor in a floating platform but Tanikaze was left unscathed from the crash. Just how much G force did the cockpit cushioned just to prevent Tanikaze from being crushed. It probably helped that he crashed on Mk III’s backside and Tanikaze was slammed against his seat and not on his seat belt that could have potentially led to several broken bones.

So potent you made a fight between a Yandere Mother(Aunt?) against her deredere Daughter(Niece?). What an encounter.

  3. The only problem I have with this is that they went out of their way at the end of season 1 to establish that Benisuzume was destroyed (in the manga they went the other way and made it clear during that scene that she was not dead). Going back to the manga version of events and throwing her back in feels like cheating.

    1. There where 3? Benisuzume’s hidden in the Gas Planet that Sidonia just blow to pieces… So, i assume the Gauna has now benisuzuma DNA shared with their entire Mind, like in Macross these Enemys instant communication with each other

So, yeah, they Sidonia think they got all. But Hive Cluster can reproduce here as they like.. Lucky for them Hive Cluster do not mass produce them. looks like she needs mass of special fuel or that kind

but i can understand your point, just take the manga as anchor, and the water around it has different currents that laid to the same goal

      1. 2 of the three Hoshijiro Gauna got destroyed immediately. Only the one was dangerous enough to get a name, and they very clearly killed that one at the end of season 1 of the anime. In the manga, it very clearly escaped the equivalent engagement and has been running the gauna offensive against sidionia up until this point, with multiple appearances and powerups building to this last big fight.

  4. If someone in charge of the Anime know if there is a Sidonia no Kishi game in planing.. Please let it be nearly that here…

And, you see. In how near this interaction is, with Cockpit views. So please let them stay in the Anime, this give us the “right with them” feeling
