「ろくろの気持ち SHOCKING CONFESSION」 (Rokuro no Kimochi SHOCKING CONFESSION)
“Rokuro’s Feelings – Shocking Confession”

That’s going to put a dent in their relationship.

Mayura vs Benio, on Rokuro

One of the two threads of this episode had to do with Mayura and Benio’s competing views on whether Rokuro should fight as an exorcist. Now, I’ve always had a soft spot for the unlucky osananajimi, so I’ve been saddened by how Mayura seems destined to lose the Rokuro Bowl. This time Benio showed another reason why she’s the best, aside from being way cooler. Where Mayura wants to shield Rokuro from painful things, Benio wants to seem him face them—not because she loves him, but because he’s a valuable fellow soldier who she respects. Facing one’s demons is much better than running from them forever, even if the world seems determined to throw many road blocks in Rokuro’s way. Point to Benio.

Rokuro’s Secret

I’m not surprised that, far from having survivor’s guilt about the Hinatsuki Tragedy, Rokuro was actually the cause of it. Survivor’s guilt would be enough to justify his actions thus far, but when in doubt assume the storyteller will make things worse for their characters. Pitting Rokuro and Benio against each other because Rokuro went mad and killed her twin brother? Easy money. Of course we’re going to do that.

True, I’m getting some Bleach vibes from this whole thing, with Rokuro’s arm apparently being a kegare corruption, which means the main character is using the monster’s power, and that was definitely a few Bleach arcs. Superficial similarities aside, the interest is in the character drama, and that’s real. I wanna see what happens as Benio confronts Rokuro over what he’s done. Also, I’d like to see Amawaka Seigen (Suwabe Junichi), who is also Mayura’s father, get punched in the mouth. He’s kind of a dick.

tl;dr: @StiltsOutLoud – Mayura & Benio argue over whether Rokuro should fight, & Rokuro’s old teacher appears to drop a bombshell revelation #sousei 08

Random thoughts:

  • Poor Rokuro. Even his “good attributes” lead to pain.

  1. It seems blatantly obvious to me that Seigen is only telling part of the story. I doubt things are as cut-and-dried as “Rokuro went mad/was corrupted and killed everyone.”

    1. I haven´t read the original manga so this is pure speculation on my part so here it goes: Seigen is lying with the truth and that´s the worst kind of lie, how so? All this talk about Kegare Corruption got me thinking that it might not have been Rokuro who went insane but his friends did, they all became Kegare somehow and he was forced to mercy kill them all and in a way that´s more horrifying that killing them when you are a mindless monster, Rokuro knew what he was doing and did so they could rest in peace, now that´s one hell of a trauma! End of the speculation.

If that´s what really happened I must say that everyone around him if being kind of an ass for pushing him to be an exocist again, this kind of truma is not the kind you get over with just facing it head one. It´s true that if you fight your demons when you can recover more quickly, return to be who you used to be to some extent but what happens if you face your demons and all it does us make them eat you anyway? Reminds me of a quote of the master of modern terror:

“Monsters are real. Ghosts too. They live inside us ans sometimes they win.”

      Stephen King

I know this is a very pesimistic way to see Rokuro´s future but the more we know about the Hinatsuki Incident the more I convince myself that all the people arond Rokuro are being selfish bastards for forcing him to return to a life that only given him pain strong enough to kill an adult. He saved many people but does that mean he has to keep fighting until he breaks down and dies? Does his happiness and will count for anythig in this prophecy of the Miko and the Twin Stars?.

P.S.: I get the strong feeling that Benio´s brother is not dead at all, no evidence on the matter but I think that if he´s truly dead then I´m a giant rabbit. XD

  2. My guess is that it is not as simple as what was said. It could be one of those at the dorm went berserk – probably Benio’s brother – and Rokuro was the last one standing.

  3. Well, to honor my pledge about not revealing manga spoilers, I will comment on only one thing: I actually liked how the little girl kegare pulled Mayura here better than in the manga. The whole window reflection thing was a lot more interesting than the “cornered her in a dark alley” bit in the manga.

  4. I can see the plot twist coming from a mile away.

I have not read the manga by the way, but I’m guessing that it’s actually Benio’s brother that went mad, killed the kids, and Rokuro either survived, or killed Benio’s brother… however, it’s probably more likely that Benio’s brother is still alive and being some kind of bad guy to pull out later in the story.
