「青葉雨」 (Aoba Ame)
“Rain Drops on Green Leaves”

This show is SO PURE.

General Impressions

Sorry for the late post everyone! Things were a little busy this week, but with crises averted, I finally have the time to express how much I loved this week’s episode. And when I say love, I mean it in every sense of the word since from start to finish there was so much to love that I think I could feel my heart struggling to replenish itself afterwards.

Diving straight into the thick of things, I was blown away with how the story introduced Tachibana’s runner past. As someone who probably doesn’t speak about herself much, I was wondering just how her injury and the aftereffects of it would play into things. Lo and behold, the story decides to kick things off by showing off just how impressive of a runner Tachibana is. The thing is, the act of showing us that she’s a great runner wasn’t anything all that special. However, the way that the show expressed this notion was damn near perfect. With Yoshizawa providing the bare minimum in verbal exposition, our eyeballs were greeted to this amazingly colorful scene that you could say lit the proverbial spark in both Tachibana and Kondou. Honestly, something about the way it was stylized combined with a perfect backtrack made the whole thing feel surreal.

But that my friends was just the appetizer that was leading us toward the main course. Starting off with Kondou rushing to Tachibana’s aid, I loved how something as simple as Tendou taking Tachibana to the clinic led to a perfect moment where the two were able to loosen up a bit while dropping the shell we all keep up when we’re out in the real world. As they sat face-to-face in that small restaurant booth, it was a real delight to see Tachibana crack a genuine smile while laughing at Tendou being a silly guy. And while it’s a shame that Tendou didn’t understand the true meaning behind Tachibana’s confession to him, I’ll admit that the story got me when I thought that things were about to escalate to an 11 right then and there.

Overall, another great episode from a series that continues to surprise me. With so much going on and such a short amount of time for the anime to cover it all, I can’t wait to see what we encounter next week. Anyways, I hope all of you are having a great week and I’ll catch you later!

  1. I didn’t expect a confession this soon, but the show handled the situation realistically. Still, I get the feeling Kondou did realize what Tachibana meant and chose to brush it off for now.

Also, gotta love how adamant Tachibana was against Kondou apologizing to her mum. After all, it’s likely her mum might think to pull her from her part-time job ogling Kondou everyday.

    1. I’d say my only slight annoyance was Yoshikawa. I mean, he was a tolerable annoyance at first, but to go so far as to even get a job where Akira works? That just feels really creepy stalker to me now.

Funnily enough, I was talking about this with a friend of mine after the episode came out. While we both agreed that Yoshikawa was an annoying character, we disagreed on whether to label him as a “creepy stalker” or a guy just trying his best to get close to a girl he likes.

In the end, we agreed that so long as he isn’t either 1) annoying Akira, 2) hurting Akira, and/or 3) sabotaging Akira’s own pursuits (i.e. Kondo), then he’s just someone trying to get close to the girl he likes (in much the same way Akira decided to work in the restaurant was her way of getting close to Kondo– sniffing his used shirt and all– instead of already working in the restaurant and then falling for him).

Akira is seriously so gorgeous. Maybe its the art style of the anime, but still i cannot take my eyes off her. I love how they draw her body proportion and how low-key she is even off-screen despite being an amazing athlete once. But my major respect goes to the background artist and Wit Studio. The clouds, i mean the clouds! They are so beautiful and mesmerizing! I never felt so excited to see clouds in anime before XD

  4. I hate how in other forums a lot are saying that this anime is just a pervy middle aged dude fantasy for joshi kousei.

I think this anime is beautiful, I love the animation, stunning if you will – the slow frames, the still shots. I love the Tachibana for her courage she has shown so far. I love the realistic reactions from the manager.

And my god the OP by Honeyworks and the voice from Aimer in the ED!
