Kokkoku – 04

「㐧肆刻」 (Dai Yon Koku)
“The Fourth Moment”

In “The Fourth Moment” or “Dayoooooooooooonkoku” of Kokkoku, we were in for quite the treat. The pivot from Juri the Fearful Bystander to Juri the Irate Action Hero came in full force this time as her patience for the same cookie-cutter mooks bragging about wanting to kill or rape her wore as thin as it could possibly get. It was glorious to see her suddenly get the idea to wipe the floor with the three guys that cornered them, including the Clark Kent-looking dude who gets his comeuppance after his comments about her chest size. What was even more exciting was the fact that this motivates her to coordinate with Jii-san to corner the goons instead, and run up on them using a tag team method of warping and slapping them out of Stasis. This episode was definitely a game-changer in how we’ll be seeing the two considering how well they did striking fear into their pursuers’ hearts as they make sure they’re frozen in their tracks. If we just got a full season of Juri and Jii-san’s vigilante justice, that’d be amazing.

But Juri becoming a badass isn’t her only strength in this episode as the story continues to allow the characters to be intelligent enough to pick up on their observations through Stasis. Juri herself pieced together a few conclusions based off of what happened during the time they were separated from Tsubasa and Makoto, including how the frozen bodies of those who die within Stasis had transferred their movement into one of them. In addition, we’re also seeing how much Juri can remember of her past as seeing Mishima automatically links her to her first vivid memory of Stasis as a young girl who came across her at some point after running away from Jii-san. Learning that her first experience with both Stasis and her power to eject people from Stasis came from the grief of her dying dog’s life coming to an end once she returns to moving time is significant to how much Juri can comprehend of Stasis, as does her memories of meeting a girl who might’ve been able to move through time.

Mishima’s own recollection of Stasis plays an important role in the episode too with a Herald’s decaying body reminding her of a family member she had who she saw turn into one. The next episode is looking to place emphasis on how the meeting between Juri and Mishima played out in the past, but her realization after another man was killed by the currently dissipating Herald lends itself more to how we will understand how things will go once she finds Juri in present day. Additionally, the building tension from Takafumi possibly complicating the family’s pathway out of Stasis, another pervy member of the cult being in the same convenience store as Tsubasa and Makoto, and the increasing usage of fish-eye camera shots will assure that the next upcoming episode will be a nail-biter.

I can’t wait to see what happens next, this so far is awesome, Juri is more than a looker with lazy brother. This story is shaping up to be something more than a murder mystery like Erased. It’s a real thriller.

Well the only plausible explanation for me, for this two little girls be in statis.. How did Grandpa activate the Stasis in that time? Is she an half-sister somehow? or in her anger she “took out” he Sister, but then why they forgot all about her? Questions about questions.. Perhaps both was in this Stasis to avoid dead.. our MC from the Dog and the other? dunno

The Key is.. how did they end up in this Stasis, if they are really stranger, and why was she so desperate to reenter it again, that she join up with this guys

Star Trek: Generations? Where he even blow out an Sun to enter this dimension rift

I believe the grandpa had the Stone this whole time as it was passed down from generation to generation. Who Mishima could be is a complete mystery though, and it is still unknown if she had access to a Stone, or her family happened to have one, or if she’s secretly from Juri’s family.

It does feel like Mishima found her way in through the cult’s Stone, but their stone relies fully on getting the Yukawa’s to activate their stone. Most likely, she went in to confront Juri and her family for her own reasons outside of the cult’s motives.

what Grandpa have here is an “Half Master Stone”, perhaps the other Stone was on the other family possession. But it must be more then an coincidence that these two little Girls was in the same “aegis bubble”.. If the Anime explain this, then the great Secret is resolved..

Well, lets see. Perhaps as i said, she is some kind of “unknown” Half-sister

or an “eternally Aegis citizen”.. but then we still have the meeting at the same Aegis Bubble

Is that supposed to be a Kokkoku version of Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow for the headliner?

    • January 30, 2018 at 6:31 amChoya

It was Kendrick Lamar’s “ELEMENT.”. I was thinking about what kind of tough, cool, in-your-face kind of lyric to put in relation to Juri fighting back, but if I gotta choose between so many songs, I have to make it look sexy.
