Well I dare say things are finally starting to heat up. As though the writers behind Franxx knew what to expect after the Ichigo shenanigans from last time (read: nothing good), this week saw not only resolution in the ongoing red-blue feud of the century season, but some very tasty teasers of things to come and more than one hint of the truth now hiding in plain sight to assuage the shipping pains. We’re still technically far from any sort of resolution, but Franxx is now ready to start showing off the goods.

Probably the most surprising aspect this week was the speed at which Ichigo resigned herself to defeat. Considering how determined the girl was to make her love work I honestly expected an additional episode or so of Ichigo suffering in the face of incompatibility and Hiro’s relative indifference towards her—you know, to twist the knife ever harder. Instead, however, we got Ichigo being dragooned by Gorou of all people into reuniting the darlings and letting the destined pairing stand for all time. Kind of shocking, but arguably not that bad, it let Gorou meaningfully assert himself for once (even if only to give himself a better shot with Ichigo) and showed Ichigo exactly why her dreams are best left dreams. After all, it’s kind of hard ignoring how badly you’re rejected when successful pairing only works when the guy plasters his own crush’s image over yours. Credit where credit is due though, it was an outcome which had to happen at some point, getting it over with now means Ichigo has a better shot at finding happiness later on—and maybe a bit of audience redemption too.

Whether we get a happy ending for all, however, will probably come down to what happens next. With the Grand Crevasse breached in the ideal Trigger way (i.e. massive machines, over the top explosions), we are about to start finding out exactly what APE is after and likely what the klaxosaurs are to boot. Everyone by now likely assumes klaxosaurs are human-based in some capacity for example, but hints like this point to a more intimate, Gargantia-esque origin than initially apparent. Top this off with talk about Plantations being uploaded (suggesting the majority of humanity may in fact not even physically—i.e. in the sense of having a body—exist) and the obvious implications of that massive human shaped hand and we are looking at one hell of a reveal in the near future. And all of that is before getting into the mention of a Hringhorni being constructed. As Hringhorni was the Norse funeral ship for the god Baldr, Zero Two’s purpose is increasingly looking like some form of offering/sacrifice, with the intent likely being on properly uniting human and klaxosaur together. Given klaxosaur cores look to contain human bodies (at minimum), I wouldn’t put it past APE if the reason for all of this was to return an apparently Matrix-uploaded humanity back to their original, klaxosaur-consumed bodies. Probably more complex than that of course (particularly regarding how humanity wound up klaxosaurs in the first place), but hey, nothing says awesome like biotransference gone wrong.

The only question to deal with first is when Hiro and Zero Two finally decide to run away for good. With memories returned and reasons to live solidified, I imagine it won’t be long before the chosen couple chooses freedom and happiness over any moral obligations. Somehow I couldn’t blame them if they did.

Random Tidbits

Who knew, apparently girls can pilot Franxxs after all, at least if the Nines are anything to go by. Boys successfully paired in the pistil position? Yeah there’s something up with that, particularly when it never worked before. We’ll probably get the reason soon (unless all those Nines are traps and this whole thing is a story artefact), but I imagine this might having something to do with the stampede mode and those orange horns.

    1. I think Ichigo’s acceptance of the relationship between Hiro and 002 happens way too quickly.

      https://randomc.net/image/Darling%20in%20the%20Franxx/Darling%20in%20the%20Franxx%20-%2015%20-%20Large%2026.jpg

Perhaps this issue would have been alleviated if it was shown that when Ichigo’s and Hiro’s consciousness connected, Ichigo was able to see Hiro and 002’s distant past-how they met and what knot.

But no, it didn’t happen. It was only shown that she saw snippets of Hiro’s consciousness, scenes which are nowhere as impactful as the whole of episode 13.

Basically, Ichigo’s sudden acceptance is anti-climatic in my opinion.

      1. Way too quick without a mind meld yes. But the mind meld removed any normal human wishful thinking and refusal to accept reality. To have a normal longer process would be to ignore the mild meld happened.

    2. After the crazy unnecessary circumstances irl surrounding episode 14 (like cmon people.. i was mad too re ichigo’s attempts at hiro but there was no need to go so far as to threaten the staff abd the actors srslyy) and this week’s episode, i think it’s good that they’re taking a well deserved break

      1. 02 actually attempts to lean in but Hiro beats her to it

It’s the little details man. Even if this isn’t AOTY these two are definitely the best couple of the year.

      1. they are reminded yet again that Godfather Hiro is alive and that it was him who destroyed Crevasse fuelled by the power of love and after taming a dreaded partner killer

I’d actually love to see some of the reactions to that. Hiro appearing out of nowhere in the most grand way possible, screaming how he loves his wife and being reciprocated

  1. – no separation episode
    – no consequences episode
    – no reflection episode
    – she literally still consumed all the stamens
    – Hiro is a psychopath that cares nothing more than his ZERO TSU
    – 02 is a monster that cares for no one except DARLING
    – people still cheer them on
    – their love story is making the show bend backwards just to satisfy it

I was expecting a redemption arc where 02 stops being a serial killer with no remorse or humanity and eventually the squad comes around to her and sympathises at the same time as she realises how awful her actions have been, manipulated as they were by APE to make her this way, and tries to make amends. The arc ends with Ichigo reluctantly admitting that she’s changed and she doesn’t have a reason to keep Hiro apart from her anymore, and her and Goro – and the squad as a whole – grow closer.

Instead everyone just did a 180 between episodes with no character development, except 02. 02 does nothing to redeem herself, doesn’t change in the slightest, actually kills even MORE people and…that’s it. There’s nothing. Just ‘actually nevermind it’s all resolved because jeez character development seems like a lot of effort’.

    1. You speak as if she has a choice. Its the adults which keep throwing people at her. Don’t really think she has a choice to refuse. I don’t think she’s choosing to “consume” them, that’s simpyk what her body does in order to properly function in a FRANXX.

      seltzermx
      1. 02 doesn’t consumes absolutely nobody, she literally tries to choke them to kill them just as she did with Hiro in episode 12, that’s why the white-haired guy was wearing a cervical collar for neck in episode 1, Mitsuru had your neck bandaged in episode 4, and Hiro had hand marks on your neck in episode 13.

        Mugen1style
      2. There’s not a single memorable sequence throughout this episode. Even Stelzia transformation was weak as fuck due to the CG. I should probably not say that the animation is bad and more so that the choreography is bad.

        daisuke_wto
    2. As much as I love this show I definitely have to agree on your part. It feels as if there’s supposed to be another episode between this one but scrapped it cause they needed a big circle jerk to appease the fans. Everyone doing a 180 is not exactly correct. Besides ichigo’s character suddenly accepting her defeat was definitely a 180, but everyone else fell in line in my opinion. Goro is possibly the most consistent character out of all of them to be honest. Also 02 didn’t exactly have a choice in the matter, she either pilots or she’s tortured/punished by papa and the adults, she doesn’t exactly have a say in the matter.

There’s so much more weird directing going on but i guess majority got what they wanted with Hiro and 02 and that’s all that matters to them. Too bad for ichigo, her love started in episode 02 and ended in 15. RIp

      1. Except there’s really nothing missing. We knew last episode that they were going into battle this episode, what else should have happened?

        More depressed Hiro?

I mean seriously think of what the pacing of the show would be if they basically added a filler episode after how much has gone down the last 3+ episodes. The show didn’t need a pause, it needed to cap things off with some fireworks.

And hot damn they spent a lot of money on this episode. Production values skyrocketed and there’s tons of battle scenes too.

      2. -literally the one who tore them apart and mind wiped them in the firs the place
-ichigo gets over the bitchfit in 10 seconds
-goro has 0 reaction to getting cucked last episode, forced kiss may as well not have even happened
-02’s character is just “Muh Darling”. Great, but we already went over this in episode 1, and the love triangle was resolved even earlier. How many times can they recycle this?

This show has 24 episodes and manages to mess up developments for paper thin characters. Also the CG is not hot.

Anime Producer Yuichi Fukushima Endures Harassment Over DARLING in the FRANKXX Episode

Former A-1 Pictures and current CloverWorks animation producer Yuichi Fukushima’s Twitter account is being inundated with angry and harassing messages since the airing of DARLING in the FRANKXX’s 14th episode this week. The episode re-established the ongoing love triangle between Hiro, Zero Two, and Ichigo with many fans reacting negatively to Ichigo’s actions within the episode.

Fukushima wrote two tweets about the series’ 14th episode on April 14. The first tweet thanks the episode’s staff for their work and requested viewers continue to watch the show next week. The second tweet complimented the episode’s unique ending sequence.

Both tweets have received comments ranging from disappointment in the episode’s content to death threats towards the episode’s director and writer. Others are posting a doctored image of Zero Two holding a pistol with the subtitle “Say Ahh!” and have threatened to kill the screenwriter’s family. Other comments are calling for Fukushima to fire writer Hiroshi Seko or even going so far as to suggest Seko kill himself.

Some fans were angry enough about the episode’s content to start a #Bitchigo hashtag to vent their frustrations and even stating that they wanted the character to die. The #Bitchigo hashtag was predominantly used by English-speaking viewers and the harassing messages towards Fukushima do not contain the hashtag, and are written in Japanese, Chinese, and English. Many of the comments seem to originate from throwaway accounts, possibly to avoid getting banned from Twitter.

      1. Wait… you think they rewrote and reproduced the entire episode in the span of less than a week? Throwing away whatever they had planned for plot and development for the remaining episodes just to cram in a happy ending for Zero Two so pissed off fanboys would stop posting memes at them?

Is me or does the writer of the article seem to disregard the threats?

        Death threads? It happens.
Wanting to kill the character? Typical fan reaction.
        Fire the screenwriter? Meh.
Kill the writer, the director and their families? Nothing strange.

Have they started a #bitichigo hashtag? Oh my god!!!! They have to be really angry.

      4. @qwert
You should know better than to think this by now. Most anime is made right down to the wire. OreTwi and KLK were notorious for sometimes getting the episode tapes turned in mere hours before airtime.

        Dorcas_Aurelia
      5. Only PC fools think that in every language anything with the word “die” is a death threat. Saying stuff like “shi-ne” in Japanese is pretty much just “drop dead, jerk”. Even your average “saitei” is probably more impactful than that (“you’re bottomfeeding scum”).

Also the “kill yourself” thing in Japanese is more like “take responsibility for effing up real bad and gtfo”, not a threat either. We all know they’re big on taking responsibility and seppuku used to be the ultimate form of that.

So really it was just your typical fan bitchfest, nothing to write home about.

        shi-ne
    4. Why would Zero Two need a redemption episode exactly? She was the victim last week. Sure she snapped and beat the shit out of everyone at the end of the episode but that was after everyone else basically treated her like a monster who would drain the soul out of Hiro if she even visited him in the hospital, all because Ichigo was jealous and didn’t want the two of them to see each other.

Hiro and Zero Two are not monsters or psychopaths for wanting to live and fight for one another. Their love for each other, even if it borders on obsession, actually sets them apart and above all the other kids who, while approaching the individuality emotions Hiro has developed, still essentially live and die because Papa tells them to.

You’re calling Zero Two a monster for killing a dozen stamen, all of whom walked willingly to their deaths knowing who Zero Two was and what happened to each one that came before them. Each one ordered to their deaths by Papa and his buddies who this very episode ordered a squad to grab some bombs and stand under the giant klazosaur and then used entire plantations as suicide bombers.

-literally “haha i loved you all the time i never did anything wrong”
        -“daarin daarin daarin daarin daarin”

        ever worse than violet evercrap
trigger should just fucking kill themselves already, fucking all of them.

        dirkusbirkus
      2. They’ve been working up to it, but it still manages to feel rushed and choppy. Just because we’ve had an end goal in sight since episode 1 doesn’t mean that the story was executed well during the “twist”. The writing for the Ichigo x Hiro x Zero Two episode was piss poor, almost as bad as the Goro x Ichigo x Hiro episode. Fans can flesh it out and make it feel reasonable, but that didn’t translate to the screen. Zero emotion, choppy storytelling, unsympathetic stupidity and character regression on all sides.

The animation goes to absolute shit on these filler slice-of-life episodes, but the writing is even worse. I like the show for what it could be, but at the same time, it’s probably one of the worst shows going right now in terms of quality and consistency.

This is some Fifty Shades of Twilight Mecha bullshit.

      1. It’d be great if the 9s being the apparent antagonists was a red herring and they ended up being on the Hiro/02’s side, after appointing Hiro their leader for taming 02.

I think it’d be a far more interesting and less expected route if the rebellion starts out with Hiro, 02, and the nines going up against a conflicted P13.

        Ikaru
      1. Did we get this much bitching when Pacific Rim come out? It is literally the same thing. The brains have to be comparable for the system to work. Except in in Franxx it has to be waifu/husbando level

        yuna49
      2. @yuna49

Did we get this much bitching when Pacific Rim come out?

There was some: Mostly the “Left and right brain” theory.
It’s so much better to just assume that some idiot in a meeting said “I don’t understand it” and they added an explanation that doesn’t make any fucking sense, but sounds like it does.

        Ohoni
      3. Mostly the “Left and right brain” bullshit.

huh, I had forgotten that. I just assumed that a body that big would send back too much sensory information for a human brain. I’ve made the same assumption here.

        yuna49
      4. It was a theory, I don’t even remember if it made it into the actual movie.

The idea of distributing neural load isn’t a bad one, considering FranXX is using it too: The Pistil powers the machine and carries the general behavior while the Stamen takes over precision, reaction and oversight.

        Ohoni
      5. something else that is never explored is how much trouble one person would have using their internal compass to steady something that big. Maybe with two internal compass, the system can triangulate something better.

Though if that was the case I would think one pilot would be in the head and another in the gut.

        yuna49
      6. The body is really good at extending proprioception with sufficient sensory input. Humans very quickly extend their self to tools, equipment and vehicles.
You might be right when it comes to 20 story combat mecha, but most likely they’re sharing the full load, not dividing it.

        Ohoni
    1. Actually it’s probably the opposite. The nines don’t wear hoods and the horns indicate they’re in stampede mode. Pretty sure they’re mostly controlling things by themselves.

      weasl
      1. @weasl

The nines don’t wear hoods and the horns indicate they’re in stampede mode.

Absolutely wrong! The horns in the color color orange indicate that the connection between Stamen and Pistil is active.

        @weasl

Pretty sure they’re mostly controlling things by themselves.

        @Keep Refrigerated

The “pilots” are nothing more than walking fuel cells.

I’m pretty sure that you two don’t pay attention to the episode, especially the green-hair girl who isn’t wearing mask and may speak, because this green-hair girl literally easily denies both the comments.
Here is a video prove that, http://i.4cdn.org/m/1524424727104.webm

Quite frankly, How to deal with people who don’t pay attention to the episode and those who don’t think before they post random pointless bullshit.

      2. Well, maybe accurad, but i would not used his Word Knifes, i would use more Word Roses. They are beautiful but has also thorns, this is more the Way to tell the truth… But yes, sometimes i even put my Roses aside

        Worldwidedepp
    2. Hmm, perhaps the niners are already there where Zero Two and Hiro found out in this Episode. They already archive this “become one” and Zero Two just was looking the entire time for the one and found him

      Worldwidedepp
      1. The Nines team units are standardized units who don’t use the robot interface.
The P13 team FranXX units and Strelizia are custom units where the pistils can speak through the robot interface connecting your mind to the FranXX, then the pistils need to use the helmet so they can connect your mind to the FranXX and have access to the robot interface.

        tigertora
      2. Also, Squad13 FranXX can evolves with their Pilot. As we saw when she turn all red. Perhaps the Niners can also activate Stampede, but i do think this is all.. As you saw the Niners FranXX still are “female”

        Worldwidedepp
      3. The FranXX’s are based on Klaxosaur biology. The important feature therein being their binary existance.

Every Klaxosaur is a Jian: The main body (Female) is paired with a core (male). The female is supplied and directed by the core, while the male is empowered and protected by the body.

Female pilots emulate the body of the klaxosaur by diving into the machine’s mind. The machine then feeds them magma energy, which is activated by their negative pulse. Along with, the male pilot sends a command signal through his positive pulse. All things going well, you have a reasonable emulation of klaxosaur biology.

The stamen can’t activate alone because the female is necessary to activate the magma energy.

The female SHOULDN’T activate alone, because she’s then sharing a body with a brainwashed klaxosaur… Which doesn’t sense her partner, and gets mighty pissed about it: It encroaches on the Pistil and adapts the FranXX to a more familiar form. The Pistil maintains control by “being” this pissed off Klaxo-female, but it has some worrying implications for her sanity and humanity.

        12skippy21
      4. Perhaps it is now the time for the Secrets that FranXX still have hidden away. Who are the APE? What is their intention? What want (Werner) Dr.FranXX do with “his” Squad 13? With Zero Two’s help Squad13 had now their unique battle style (like it was mentioned)

Do we get to see the other Squad 13 Stampede modes? Will they also turn their Skin color when they “become one” (in mind.. not sexual… Mind your manners…)

As i said, if they do not plan to make an 2nd Season, then they should slowly unpack the Secrets (or research them) because i do not think they can fill the remain Episodes just with Action and Slice of Life…

Also i had an idea for Ikuno “Episode” and time to shine.. not here, in reddit

    P13 has a name?
    No opening….

Quite the large scale battle, more characters?
Oh, show me the Gran Crevasse!
    Looks like a K-saur factory.
Looks like everyone else uses that mass-produced model.
    Wonder what the Nines use.

    Humanity.

Ok, the Nines’ franxx arn’t don’t have much character either.

So thats where the Seven Sages are, the safest place?
Looks like Zero Two got worse? She went on a feeding rampage 😛
    Wish?
    Hringhorni?
    Final boss?
    Werner? Werner Franxx?

Will the writers go Yoko Taro and give the Klaxosaurs a sob story?

    Ichigo – love is selfish.

Nime Alpha refers to parasites as humans.
Humans don’t regard parasites as humans.

Nime Alpha has beam horns too.
Seems like he is more controlled, feeding of mass produced Zero Twos? lol

Hiro downgrade to house servant 😛
    A nice group shot.

Actually the battlefield makes it easier to make a game.
    Just barren feature-less dessert land.

Just what is the story of the Gran Crevasse?
    Looks like a giant plantation.
    Getting the AICO Incarnation vibes.

Hiro is dieing without meaning in his life.

    So thats the P26 guy?
    White hair?
    Too much Elixir?

More evidence to that Klaxosaur is human experiment theory.

    lol, a new K-saur class.
We haven’t heard of that too.
Reminds me of that turtle fight in FFXV.

    Protocol 32?

Woah, Zero Two operating on intinct?
    She’s turn real primal.
    Like that picture book.

    EVA Zoids 😛

I wonder had they suffered a big defeat before?
Some last Great War of the Gran Crevasse?
Then they had to start from scratch, manufacture and train a new generation.
    Any history?

Dr Franxx cares about Zero Two.

    The mirror. When?
So Zero Two is suffering from identity crisis?

lol, the ranged unit having identity crisis as well 😛

The old lady just looks on.
    What is her purpose?
Its as if the plantations are Noah’s Arks full of humans.

    Haha, the training unit.
Has been on my mind all the while.
I imagine it saying Fumoffu lol

    Goro the ever good guy!
    Don’t die!
    Nobody dies!

    Wow, friend zone memory attack!!

The extreme combi is most in sync.

Hiro bring Zero Two back from the madness!

Looks like friend zone attack wasn’t enough.
Her pride doesn’t let her out.
Or she just needed to vent.

    Franxx hair!!

Ho? Magma human in the K-saur core?
There better be explainations next episode.

Plantations are expandable after data backup?
Something so valuable is in the Gran Crevasse.
Its not about human preservation…something else…

So its the blood, the DinoAIDS thing.

Ok, in a way Hiro made Zero Two.
But way eat the book? Or she just ate the bad ending?

A plea to talk it out.

    The light of the Psychoframe!!!
    Oops wrong show, lol.
They really inverse the color scheme!
    Cringe sequence.

Ichigo franxx got its hat back.
    Franxx tears?

They win this and help create their last boss.
The Nines don’t seem that bad but what if they are later forced to become violent and bad?
The endgame, humans vs the Seven Sages?

    Human liberation?
    Real or in their sense?
Liberate from slavery? Life span? Fear?

    The Jian thing even now.

    Woah! WTF!
There better be explainations next episode.

Of course, much like with Zero Two, the special squad has stamen with what appears to be horns. Perhaps this is because some klaxosaur element is necessitates this placement?

The horns in the color color orange indicate that the connection between Stamen and Pistil is active.

      3. I think they might explore that with the fact that Plantation 13 is immobilized now. They’re going to have to come up with something for them, an alternative Plantation perhaps, and from the way APE’s been acting I don’t think they’ll be prepared to do that and will just force them into some awkward situation where P13’s loyalty/faith is trusted.

Way things are going, I’d expect that P13 and Grand Crevasse might end up becoming the center of an Anti-APE movement or even the new capital of the world in a post APE culture depending on how things play out.

        12skippy21
      5. The booting up pf the FranXX, reminds me a bit of SIMOUN.. there they need 2 “priestess” that did not choose their gender so far… sounds strange? Well in the world of SIMOUN, they can select their gender on will or if still unsure, they get it done… Well if you are curious to know, watch it AERU!!!!!

Well, anyway. in SIMOUN to start the Engines of the Vessel, they need to kiss each other because it is an ritual.. remember they look like Girls, but they are still “genderless” or they could not ride them.. Yes, even if an “mature” Woman joins them.. i think she just refuesd to select her/his gender so far…

Sound complicated, but if you look for SIMOUN, you get the gist..

        Worldwidedepp
      1. The cockpits are armored spheres of a very similar purpose if we assume that there is some form of pilot in the Klaxosaur cores: Are FranXX lobotomized Klaxosaur structures?

      1. At least it would be different even if it turned out to be shit. There is nothing unique, original, or interesting about this anime. Even the fucking duo mechs are plagiarized from one of the designs in Knights and Magic.

      2. There is nothing like Aquarion EVOL in Franxx and I’m wondering if you have seen EVOL at all. Let’s ignore plot and mecha action and take only melodrama. Zessica loved Amata, confessed to him, but there were no cheap 180% turns where Zessica would go “I’m so happy for those two” in the very next episode. It took all 26 episodes until Zessica accepted her loss and even in the final episode she was still a little bit upset about it. That’s how human feelings work.

        Treeborn
      3. The sheer idea that you think EVOL somehow managed better relationships than DitF is galling. It would be somewhat forgivable if you specified the single worthwhile relationship within. God help me that you went even further and suggested it had realistic bearing.

Even worse, When you have a carbon copy relationship in the form of LOGOS, you fucking ignore it.

Yall motherfuckers need some G. Fudo.

        vonPeterhof
      4. Didn’t get an alternate pairing.

I envy that your brain permits you to forget the finale.

Zessica wasn’t “rejected early”; It was reasonable to suggest she was in the running to the very end, and if we followed the themes of the show, she was the 1st place choice (You know, the whole “Fight destiny” think before they decided to “fix” the plot in the finale so Kawamori… Sorry, Mikono got her pairing.)

I mentioned LOGOS because it’s more relevant to DitF based on plot structure and character relationships: A reasonably well structured love triangle, a focus on the side character’s relationships and goals, etc. Kokone is close enough in context, and that’s an example of a character who actually recognized she was rejected early and moved on.

Specifically and accounting for the difference in general quality and themes: Ichigo and Hiro is a more interesting relationship, with more organic behavior.

180 turns indeed, She didn’t change position at all: She’s doing exactly what she did from the start, only this time she’s actually has to take action to resolve her hopeless romance instead of biding her time under the assumption that Hiro would eventually come around.

She tried it after Naomi, She tried it before 02, she tried it DURING 02, She tried it after 02.

I’ve said this before; Ichigo is stubborn and has made the least progress in terms of character development: But that’s part of the point of her character. Hopefully she has room to grow in the following episodes now that her primary role isn’t being a distaff counterpart to Futoshi’s pedestal complex.

        Treeborn
      5. I envy that your brain permits you to forget the finale.

And who was her alternate pairing, imbecile? Kagura? Do you know the difference between anime and fanfictions of fans? Kawamori even made an OVA for braindead retards like you to show that Zessica remained alone.

        Zessica wasn’t “rejected early”

I just had to scroll through 10 episodes on youtube to find this scene. https://youtu.be/YPoqhBZWQLE?t=25s. [Embed] Episode 17. It’s still 9 episodes before the finale.

I mentioned LOGOS because it’s more relevant to DitF based on plot structure and character relationships:

It doesn’t fucking matter, retard. Everyone was talking about Okada and EVOL. I have a feeling you switch subject to Logos because you simply hasn’t seen EVOL at all.

        vonPeterhof
      6. As simple as it would make your claim, I will not permit such slander to Rena Rune/Pollion

Being rejected in the second cour is not early. Being rejected and being so upset about it you let a gay angel hijack you isn’t reasonable.

The OVA is a fix-fic. Of course she’s alone, because if she and Kagura had any relationship closer, we’d have another waifu riot on our hands.

No media exists in a vaccum. You can restrict the conversation to EVOL, but you’re simply handicapping yourself, since EVOL’s relationships as a rule had one or zero redeeming factors.

Funny you bring up the OVA, which exclusively existed to take the best relationship in the cast and give them an alternate universe happy ending while warming up the audience for the most unorthodox but best Aquarion.

It’s almost like they fucked up so badly with the character interactions in the second cour of EVOL that they had to go back to the last working configuration.

        Alchemist
      7. Being rejected in the second cour is not early.

It put an end to all speculations about possibility of Amata/Zessica pairing. And it happened only 2 episode later than in FranXX. Reminder that just few days ago you could see lots of threads that Ichigo may steal Hiro from 02. It’s just 2 episodes later than in Franxx. Literally the same thing.

        Of course she’s alone

So if she is alone what kind then what did you mean by this:

I envy that your brain permits you to forget the finale.

You’re literally retarded and I’m not going to continue this discussion any longer.

    1. Ok, a making of.

What if they decide to provide explanations there?
Or proclaim they set off to explore character relationships and interaction, the setting and world view is not important and just a stage?

I’m just eager to know the whole truth 😛

      iron2000
      1. I think Hiro went dino at the end of ep.15 – the stress from turning into Strelizia Roja and then defeating the biggest klax they’ve ever seen AND the massive dome that withstood plantation-sized suicide bombings probably turned him into blue oni.
Why else would you think they’re doing a theatrical release for ep.16 if it wasn’t turbo plot tweest?

        KyuuA4
      2. Like actually last minute. The payoffs for the mystery about their society are with the survivors up top poking around in the new ruins of their plantation before they gear up to go down the hole, Hiro and 02 don’t reappear until the last episode.

        Hisdon
    2. Sure does sound like they suddenly had to fill a spot that opened up because they had to combine two episodes into one in order to get a “happy ending”.

I can but hope that we end up getting a “director’s cut” once this has settled down.

  3. Hmm, so Hringhorni could be a ship.

    Humans in data form?
Reminds me of Nier, the gestalt and replicant thing.

Gargantia, I’ve thoroughly forgotten about it already.
Safe for the Tomokazu Sugita mecha and flying mail girls.
    Need to read up.

Somehow the Seven Sage have the mysterious bad guys vibes but I cannot confidently point my finger at them.

    That giant arm.
Theres one that looks like a brain.
Don’t tell me theres another class of K-saur.
Reminds me of that giant thing in Evangelion, giant Reis.

Is Zero Two the next perfect form of what the Seven Sages want to achieve?
The dangerous game to play God, create evolution?
I imagine them taking off their mask to reveal frail old faces.
Then I’d feel bad about judging them.

      1. The way APE were talking about “backing up” the plantations, and “releasing them from their mortal cages”, look like we’re in for another digital hivemind/virtual world scheme on our hands.

      2. So, it’s a war between robots using human clone soldiers inside giant robots against humans using human clone soldiers mutated into weird orange goo piloting giant robot monsters.

        Miyashiro
      3. When the first go “releasing them from their mortal cages”, I took it just that they are killing them of, didn’t think of the uploading humans in data form.

Wonder why didn’t they do it earlier if thats really it?

Or majority are already in data and this minority opted out and eventually just forget their purpose of life. But the resources needed to preserve their frail bodies, how long have it been this way? Ok, the plantation should be self sustainable. I suppose there would be animal farms and fisheries in there, maybe food processing factories. Or not? The parasites have good food but the humans eat weird stuff. Oh, maybe they synthesize the food or something. Awesome future tech almost to the point of magic. Ok thinking too much again 😛

        Utawarerumono.
        That anime never interested me.
After you compared it with techy stuff, I looked into the wiki link and was quite intrigued.
Maybe I will source out that final part to take a look.

        iron2000
      1. The humans in data form, I got that from Pancakes’ text.
I was thinking the Seven Sages are more ruthless, just only wanting the experiment and combat data.
Somehow I just cannot say if the Seven Sages are good or bad.

Watched that anime but forgot about the plot already.
Can only recognize the girl and the mecha.

I think by Christmas I would have forgotten about Darling in the Franxx already.

        Gurren Lagann.
        Drills, living underground, beastman.
        Anti-spiral, galaxy, epicness.

Thats all I can say off the bat.
I can remember the character and mecha designs too but not most names.

Ok, maybe vague points here and there I can and will still remember but the cringe scene in this episode is not memorable to me.

      4. No worries, good Animes are like good Music.. It is the “ear worms” (aka refrains or just some lines, perhaps even only the beat) that should stay inside our memories, it is not that i know all Animes from start to finish i consumed in my entire Anime life. if you just remember some scenes and their gist, perhaps even just their OP and ED (or Music), then it is all good.

Animes in our past are like good Whine or Music, you just remember the taste not the entire menue you eat at that day 🙂

        Aex

        beezis
      3. @beezis: Because every time these two lovebirds ride together his Y cells get a jump, and the blue inside him seems to feed on that. They obviously can’t have Strelitzia on the sidelines for the rest of the series if things are just gonna get crazier(which of course they are), hence we accept that Hiro is going to go blue and Zero-Two will have their purple babies.

        Aex
      4. fuck you i just wanna see the red and blue oni have hot wrestling sex and get all sweaty and claw each other up and shit competing for domination while ichigo is forced to suffer the heaving banging echoing throughout the dorm house resulting in the attic being even more clawed than before stained with the scent of sweat sex and honey okay i admit it

  4. Ichigo did get a rather awesome moment herself when Delphinium bitchslapped then headbutted the berserk Strelizia – pretty funny too. Also, Delphinium somehow getting a new helmet after that…

I don’t mind if they are vehicles. Don’t mind if mecha in general are just vehicles for fight scenes.
I only mind if the fight scenes aren’t good, which is my gripe for most episodes in the show barring a few.
That and I hope we get humanoid klaxosaurs as enemies, maybe the designs will get more interesting than shapes with some of them resembling garden tools

      Spastic
  6. I have mixed feelings about how quickly things were resolved. On one hand, dragging on inevitability would have been annoying. We already know Hiro wanted to save her, we already know Ichigo had no chance and had basically resigned prior to 9 alpha sowing the seeds of distrust in her, we already know Zero two feels like shit because of her actions and will be reevaluating herself after having the only person she cares for calling her a monster. While I wish Hiro had done what Chise from mahoyome had done regarding her mother (holding their horrible actions against them, while also thanking them for helping them feel alive) and maybe save the proclamation of love for another date, or just make it more low-key than what happened.
In the end though, I can’t say I dislike a cheesy explosion fest.

Also, while I’m very grateful to Goro for being a bro, I wish his characterisation spread further than ‘the kind, mature one’. I kind of want to see more of the younger him, the him that used to pick fights every day.

    Mami
      1. Terrible? I don’t find the anime terrible in the least, don’t misunderstand me with your own issues, I’m just confused whether I wanted what happened last episode to drag on or not. An entire episode of Ichigo trying (and failing) to look her way, another episode of zero two being depressed, or things picking up, it’s a conundrum, because the inevitable meing milked for what’s it worth annoys the hell out of.

Oh no the adorable training mech is dead.

Well, this concludes the lovers reunion arc from ep 1. I predict what APE is up to will be the focus from this point on. Klaxsaurs being humans all along/ something underneath seems like a possibility. 02 might have been a fully intact human-like core recovered.
I think Hiro and 02 crossing path in their kindergarten may have been planned all along.

  8. Did they just back-up all the adults in the plantation that self-destructed?

Where will these new bodies be downloaded… ah, perhaps that answers the question of what happens to all the children(‘s bodies)…

    1. 98% of the adults, they said.

It’s funny how they said the with the opening of the crevasse the liberation of humanity was “at hand” and then a giant hand came out and smashed.

      8mmspikes
    2. this backup the bodies reminds me of “Expelled from Paradise”, where they need to grown an biological body of an DNA file with boosters. But in “expelled” they need to earn the memory they are stored… so even there they have “rich” and “poor”

Perhaps here is something similar. Because the center of this Space Station looks the same as on the ground, just without these arms/legs

Perhaps they want to terraform this Planet and use an Hybrid of the “ancient lifeform” (Human) and a mixing of their own genes and need the Plantations to life on the surface. So the real aliens are they themselves.. i took the idea out of “Godzilla” (the anime movie). Like the movie “Patema inverted” where at the end of the movie the truth comes to light

  10. Are some people here seriously thinking that the sudden shift in writing this episode from last week is all because the backlash the show received on twitter?….c’mon! You should know by know all anime is produced weeks/months before they actually air. Right about now they should be working on the final eps of Franxx. The janky writing had nothing to do with the threats as this was already planned out….which goes to show that the writing (in this aspect) was bad to begin with.

The only thing companies can remotely do within less than a week timeframe is re-record scenes. There’s isn’t enough time in the world for them to go back, take out scenes, and rewrite->reanimate->re-record them within less than a week. I would have thought people knew this already ever since Shirobako and other anime producing anime basically revealed this information.

So no, Death Threats had no affect on this episode. If anything it might affect how the finale is handled. Which would kind of explain the week break that we have with no explanation at all….I guess time to rework some things in the end.

    SDFGS
    1. Honestly the people behind the show were probably happy to recieve the death threats. They clearly knew episode 14 was going to make people angry and it clearly did so on purpose. Its supposed to make people upset so that the payoff in 15 has a bigger impact. The threats show that your audience is really invested in your show to the point of getting that mad at an episode intended to make them upset, it tells you that your art is being appreciated.

      BlueMoon
    2. @SDFGS and @BlueMoon

You should know by know all anime is produced weeks/months before they actually air.

You should know better than to think this by now. Most anime is made right down to the wire. OreTwi and KLK were notorious for sometimes getting the episode tapes turned in mere hours before airtime.

How smug they all were. “Sit back, Hiro – we’ll take care of it.” Even after they had pushed Zero Two out of their unit, knowing the demon-girl was still the only partner that Hiro could pilot.

Ichigo being the most selfish of all, wanting Hiro just because he was the childhood star before he met Zero Two the demon child in the snow. Ichigo ignoring her own partner – where is he supposed to go?

And way too many surprises when it came to the “final destination” and Klaxusaurs larger than Plantations and such. Plus that big hand as large as a mountain. We’re either going to get an Eureka-type explanation where Humanity came back to Earth only to find squatters or some kind of post-Singularity event.

    jhpace1
    1. Now that I think about it, I think Hiro’s inability to pilot with other humans wasn’t just a result of having ingested 02’s blood, but was caused by the memory wipe too.
There’s a big theme about linking minds to operate a Franxx, and Hiro was missing a very important chunk of his memory, and also seemed to have lost some of his personality as a result of the memory wipe as well.
When he got that back, he could pilot with Ichigo.

It would also imply that the reason he was able to pilot with 02 wasn’t because of his blood, but because she held his missing memories, so when they linked up, her memories filled in the blanks that Hiro was missing.

Except they’re not really developing since the thing taht was block them was the “amnesia” bullshit. Wow, who would have expected 15ep earlier, an anime with such a cheesy name. And 14ep earlier, an anime thats trying to sell via cheaply hentai style mecha piloting positiong. Would finally become such a heavy hitter now!

      1. at this point in the show, she’d probably accept 5 foot tall turd Hiro. Or garbage pile Hiro. Or sawdust and glue Hiro.

They just murdered a klax as big as a plantation with the power of how satisfied they were with each other. The writers would have to come up with some contrived shit to ruin that.

I hope they don’t try and instead move on to more klax killing, mecha fighting, and world building. Maybe a little character growth for the rest of the crew.

      2. Hiro becoming part Klaxosaur and both of them coming to terms with their Klaxosaur nature are major developments, it won’t be an easy path for either of them.

But at least Hiro made it clear that they need to talk and think things through together as a couple instead of running away to be angsty and retarded by themselves.

So, it was just your typical fan bitchfest, nothing really to write home about.

  15. It was obvious that Ichigo never had a chance, but the writing from the last episode was still terrible and the Ichigo x Goro x Hiro episode was also terrible. This episode was great in terms of pacing, writing, and action, but it’s like we’re watching a messy hodgepodge slammed together. There’s only a few really nice episodes carrying it and reminding me of what it could be if it wasn’t handled so poorly.

I’m not Ichigo x Hiro or Zero Two x Hiro, it was just obvious from the start that the latter two were going to be the star-crossed couple, Ichigo was always going to be friendzoned. I just wish the love triangle drama had been a sidenote to the main storyline instead of the main attraction.

  16. My god, this comment section needs proper moderation. Some idiot still thinks it’s okay to use the “f” slur for gay people? Seriously? Children, the lot of you.

    1. No, the next episode is going to have 02 and Hiro one-shot the El Grande Mano, APE was actually benevolent from the start and Dr. Franxx was a red herring, and the last of the anime is going to be SoL.

    1. Yeah, I don’t think this is gonna be the show anyone expected at this point. Now I’m more expecting it to be “friendship can overcome anything!” territory which is kinda meh. At least this episode had some damn actual mecha fighting. Too many episodes were wasted on stupid slice-of-life drama and I feel like a lot of the questions will be either left unanswered or with an unsatisfying conclusion. There is a rich world to explore here, but they simply spent too much time on the horribly contrived love triangle at this point.

      1. Well yeah, the whole reason he likes 02 was because she was the only one besides him who didnt just blindly accept the circumstances. Rather than just give the picture book to the caretaker, she fought for it and managed to keep it as a result.

  17. Ep Special: (Next Episode 16 come out next week)

    – i am satisfied with the Special. It is okay. It is not really Blu-ray material, but this was not the purpose right now. They have surly more time and stuff (Flesh) when the Anime end. Like more making of stuff and other things

    – i want to believe on the main Writer and want to say “Fight to, gambata-ne and i hope the community could give him little support on his Way

    – also small teaser was dropped, that Kokoro will change and such.. Lets see. I just hope that the Merchandising do not crush the shoulders of the team in the meantime, special the one in charge of all of this.. That includes his Editor and helper.. (Shirobako…)
