「さくらと秋穂の子守唄」 (Sakura to Akiho no Komoriuta)
“Sakura and Akiho’s Lullaby”

A rather slow episode all things considered.

General Impressions

After week after week of rather high stake episodes, this week’s felt a little dull in comparison. Mind you, that doesn’t mean that the episode itself wasn’t a fun watch! Between the sneaky reveal behind Sakura’s powers growing and an awfully cute story about a fox and his mom, the only thing really missing this week was a new card capture.

That said, let’s take some time to analyze what’s going on right now and see if we can make some educated guesses about the future since there’s not really much to say about this week’s episode. Starting from the top, I think it’s pretty clear why Kaito would be targeting Sakura to help aid Akiho in whatever is ailing her. As a fellow magician who’s apparently really powerful, whatever is going on with Akiho seems to be out of his hands and he needs someone who can do something about it. That someone happens to be Sakura, or rather Sakura and her ability to quickly gain power which seems to directly linked to the amount of Clear Cards that she captures. So, the question is, just what could it be that is plaguing Akiho?

Well, considering all the references to Alice in Wonderland and the appearances of this masked figure only in Sakura’s dreams, I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to think that there’s something going on internally with Akiho and that the masked figure we’re seeing might be some kind of magical powers that are trying to make their way out of Akiho. A point that I’d like to think is the big “twist” that is maybe coming since there’s rarely a “bad” character in the Cardcaptor series. And by twist, I mean that maybe whatever power is lurking inside of Akiho should stay inside of her and Kaito needs Sakura’s power to keep the thing at bay.

But honestly, who knows? Maybe Kaito is just a bona fide bad guy and his feelings for Akiho are all a front to trick all of us! In any case, hopefully we’ll get some more answers down the road with the last few episodes quickly approaching. Anyways, I’ll see you guys next week! See you then.

    1. Planning doom is fine and that, but when will you do your magical plushie things with your bois like in the ending? Can I sacrifice something to you 3 getting a spin off?

  1. Great antagonist of history must be this entity within Akiho. It may be exactly the great being that appears with the white figure after the clocks break. As the Clamp universe affects all the stories, we do not know to what extent Tsubasa and xxxHolic affect this story.

  2. I wonder how immense and powerful did sakura become? As the series progressed, they made it like sakura will become a demigod or some more powerful than clow and she is slowly becoming less “human”. We all know thar there are some plots in other anime where a person changes and berserks once she got eaten by his or her over flowing power

  3. I’d hazard a guess that the antagonist is not truly the evil character that he is currently being portrayed. Probably he needs Sakura’s power to save Akiho for some “yet to be revealed” reason.

That feels more like how CCS should be.
