JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind – 05

「ポルポの遺産を狙え!」 (Porpo no Isan o Nerae!)
“Fine Polpo’s Fortune”

We finally find out what puts the “Gold” in Golden Wind in this episode with the infamous scene where Abbacchio pees in a pot of tea and has Giorno drink it. He chugs Abbacchio’s “tea”, but the twist is that he already turned his teeth into jellyfish, allowing the urine to be taken out of his tea so he can drink it without tasting Abbacchio’s piss. It does establish the lengths Giorno is willing to go to keep up appearances, impress the squad, and open the door towards impressing them by hinting towards his powers. At the same time, it also shows off the craziness of Part V in itself with the lead JoJo having the guts to chug someone’s pee just because his Stand powers can make sure he doesn’t taste it.

And speaking of the craziness this new part of JoJo has to offer, we are formally introduced to our eccentric mafia boy-band. The line-up for Bruno’s outfit of Passione consists of “The Urinator” Leone Abbacchio, the tetraphobic Guido Mista (or Mister Mista, so to speak), the stabby mathematician Pannacotta Fugo, and “the best girl” Narancia Ghirga. There was a pleasant surprise with how quickly they incorporated the scene with Mista complaining about the strawberry shortcake since the manga delayed showing us that part until later, but it works well with the scene considering how much it sets up the quirks that the cast has. Part of the fun in the wackiness comes from how much of their personalities play off of each other with Mista’s phobia getting on Fugo’s analytical case along with Narancia’s inability to soak in simple multiplication problems and Abbacchio sneaking a piece of cake during the whole fight, so it’s a real treat to see them all in motion with this episode.

The Abbacchio tea pot scene is funny and unique, but it also does show the lack of willingness that he has in trusting Giorno even with the amout of effort he places to try to prove his suspicions wrong. It ends up tying into concerns deeper than that, however, as he is unwilling to cooperate with Giorno and Bruno even when a Stand user is attacking everyone on the ship for knowing where Polpo’s treasure could be. It isn’t until Giorno gets caught in the Stand user’s trap when Abbacchio suddenly decides to be more cooperative, but it does show him to be less pragmatic and more skeptical of Giorno for being the new guy. While he seems like Giorno’s first main obstacle since he’s infiltrated Passione and killed Polpo, the risks Giorno takes for the squad could be just what would win Abbacchio over.

Welcome, gang of weirdos! Everyone is so lovable, especially Naranchia. He sounds like Deku sometimes.

Getting hype for the animated dance sequence (hopefully) in next episode.

As much as I loved the franchise to date, the South Park toilet
humor is very troubling. I always consider it a lack of skill
when a write resorts to something like that – cayenne pepper, salt,
too much sugar – harmless but effective pranks – body fluids, bad

Fugo is not a mathematician. He’s simply giving Narancia lessons. Narancia is the worst educated and the most poverty stricken prior to joining the gang, and he’s actually older than Fugo, who went to University of Bologna at age of 13. Fugo is the right hand man of Bruno. Guido Mista, or as one Youtuber call it, the Luckiest Unlucky man in Italy. He’s the punching bag of the crew, as many of unfortunate thing will befall upon him.

I hope the anime comes up with something or outright retcons the manga when it comes to Fugo. Still confused to this day.
