「春になりますね」 (Haru ni Narimasune)
“Spring Is Here”

Man, could anyone have an even sadder backstory?

After their sudden introduction last week, it was nice to see a little more of Momiji and Hatori so soon! With the former being a nice breath of fresh air compared to the other Soma’s we’ve seen thus far, I wouldn’t mind if we got a whole (or at least half) episode revolving around Momiji’s antics. Because if we’re being honest, who wouldn’t want to watch a Soma who wasn’t afraid of letting the opposite gender hug them? Moving on to the star of the show, I don’t think we could have asked for anything better when it came to how the story handled Hatori.

As the Soma family doctor and someone who feels like they’d command a lot of respect out of just about anyone, it wouldn’t be too surprising to think that a person like that would be kind of a hardass who’s also a stickler for the rules. That said, I was really surprised to see just how happy of a life Hatori led with the first love of his life, Kana. Watching their relationship grow from simple acquaintances to full blown lovers, it was extremely satisfying to see someone like Hatori crack such a big smile while looking at someone who he truly loved.

However, it seems like life in the Soma family isn’t as easy we one would think and it looks like Akito is at the center of it all. The head of the household, I was blown away just how sadistic and nasty he was when someone from a lower caste tried to “take way” someone close to him. But as if that wasn’t bad enough, I couldn’t believe just how terrible Akito was when he toyed with Hatori’s mind about just what Kana would want. While it may have made sense, every word coming out of his mouth was just oozing with poison. A poison that seems to have made its way to anyone that’s a part of the inner Soma circle.

Man, with each and every episode it feels like we’re getting closer and closer to a scenario where Tohru is about to discover something real concerning. Be it about the Soma’s as a whole or maybe something specifically about Akito — I can’t help but feel like something real ominous is waiting for us just over the horizon. In any case, I’ll catch you guys next week where we’ll get to see just where the story is going to take us. See you then!

  1. I watched the first anime and I have some problems with Hatori’s new voice and he is one of my favorites! The last seyuu had such a soft, caring voice, even for someone so serious and quiet as him. I also found this episode not so good as the old one, but I still choked up a bit.
I have always hated Akito. But I am excited on finally meeting animated Kureno.

    1. To be honest that thought was always on my mind. The voice actor’s voice doesn’t match Hatori’s personality imo, he sounds dull, it is very annoying. I am at least thankful that Shigure sounds ok at least, Hatori’s backstory could have been better with a better voice actor at least, soryr it annoyed me 2 much xD

    1. Perhaps Akito is so angry with others as himself to have an Life, go out in the Sun, have fun and such.. in Short he is envious of the other Zodiac’s.. is he perhaps a Snake Zodiac?
