「ずっと一緒に」 (Zutto Isshoni)
“Together Forever”

Is it crazy how much I loved watching it happen?

There’s something about anime that eases me into gore. I can’t for the life of me watch a live-action horror or gore movie but the equivalent in anime has never been an issue. I weirdly enjoy the gruesome animation and expressive strokes of blood. I knew there had to be more to this aforementioned ‘curse’. This explains why the three part personality demon in the village refused to speak about Kibutsuji. Just the mention of his name sends them into a whirlwind of panic and fear knowing they’ll lose their lives for it. Good to know Lady Tamayo was able to unshackle herself from it. Does this mean she can remove his cells from within any demon?

She’s quite a powerful demon herself. She can manipulate reality with the smell of her blood and we now discover she can cast a spell forcing opponents to reveal secrets, or in this case, the truth. Couldn’t she have done this two episodes ago?

With this story arc now complete, let’s rehash some of the details. The events across the last two or three episodes have been lengthy but not without justification. It’s Tanjirou’s first encounter with Muzan Kibutsuji – the original, the source, the creator – and he’s unable to fight him. Muzan uses the cowards way out to cause a panic in a public setting forcing Tanjirou’s hand who allows him to walk away. It’s probably best they didn’t fight during this first encounter. If Tanjirou struggled with the two underlings, who we discover aren’t part of Muzan’s elite twelve, he’d be fish food in a head on battle against Muzan. Tanjirou, the newly formed demon, and his wife are then saved by a mysterious duo who are drawn to his compassion for their kind. They salvage the situation and invite Tanjirou to join them in their hideout. Within minutes, on this same night, they’re attacked my Susamaru and Yahaba who put up a good fight but inevitably die.

We’re left with many questions after this eventful night. What about Tanjirou threatens Muzan so? How did Tamayo release herself from the curse? Why must the curse exist in the first place? Does it help Muzan protect his weakness, his family? Why is Nezuko not sleeping after such a huge battle? When did Tanjirou heal his broken leg and rib?

To clarify, the pacing of the show isn’t an issue for me. It’s allowed me to enjoy the soundtrack – which is absolute gold and reminds me of Nier: Automata’s – and enjoy the characters so much more. Even in battle they stay true to their personality. Character motivations might seem a little one-dimensional on the surface but in fact gives them much more depth. Nezuko fights for family, Tanjirou fights for Nezuko, and Yushiro fights for Lady Tamayo. It’s not a matter of power but about holding onto special and irreplaceable bonds. During this one overnight battle, Tanjirou and Nezuko have won the hearts of both Lady Tamayo and Yushiro making their family that much larger.

These friendships will be crucial as their story progresses but for now, it looks like the duo is leaving without them. Remember Tanjirou has just set foot in the city for the first time and within hours now heads south east for his next mission. It’s taken ten episodes, but we’re finally at that point in the Kamado siblings journey: a new companion in the distance.

  1. Tamayo did said her Demon Blood Art is harmful for human to inhale a large amount so she can’t use it when Tanjirou was nearby. Yushiro even cover Tanjirou nose when he came to close.

About Tanjirou broken leg, i don’t think he actually broken his leg. We all have that moment when he was in so much pain that we though our bone was broken and Tanjirou certainly not a doctor so we can’t exactly believe his work about medical problem.

I think the thing Muzan care for the most is his life. We see how he reacted when someone mention his health and pale skin, how the encounter with Tanjirou trigger the memory of someone nearly successful kill him. The curse seem to be a mean both to keep demons in line and protect himself from demon hunter, the only people who came the closet to kill him.

  2. @MissSimplice — yeah, we all have questions, but the most important
unasked question is — how come the blood sample doesn’t disappear like
the rest of the corpse 🙂 :)?

I could kinda accept that maybe Lady Tamayo healed him, but the order
of events is wrong (I think). As for the curse, I thought it was
mentioned (sometime) that it was to prevent the demons from banding
together against Muzan, or maybe I got that wrong… Nezuko not
sleeping possibly due to the healing from Lady Tamayo?

Anyway, I think you nailed their reasons for fighting and the Anime
showed it splendidly, too. Still an entertaining, action-packed series!

    1. Ha! I hadn’t thought of that. I think the blood sample that she encased didn’t disappear because it wasn’t exposed to the sun. The corpse vanished because of daylight this time (rather than a demon slayer blade).

I’m starting to think I missed some crucial elements in previous episodes when it comes to Muzan. I’ll have to rewatch (happily). Maybe I didn’t make the connections. Thanks for the clarification!

  3. Couldn’t she have done this two episodes ago?

How could we get our 20-episode-long fight scenes if the people with the power to put a stop to it actually stepped up? We wouldn’t even have a series then! 😛

  4. This episode was intense. The fight scenes just gets better and better in this show. I love listening to Tanjirou’s inner dialogue of how he figures out how to defeat the demons. My favorite part of this episode was when Nezuko gave a look to Tanjirou that she wanted to be within despite the dangers ahead. That’s true family love =)
