「違法所持者 (バロットホルダー)」 (Barotto horudaa)
“Ballot Holder”

Well now we’re going places aren’t we? While I imagine few are enamoured of Plunderer’s slow and lackadaisical jaunt through all manner of introductions and world building (or lack of it), the show at least had the spark of an actual beginning and it certainly looks like we’re set to start cashing in on that. From pudding to iron piles it’s all coming up Milhouse—or at least miniskirt.

After the teasing last week regarding ballots and ballot holders we finally learned the truth behind them, and it’s as could be expected. Ballots are effectively the power up of Plunderer’s world: hold a magic ball, get a magic power, and have that power’s effectiveness determined by your own Count. It’s simple on the surface (and explains just why ballot possession is considered illegal), but I’m still doubtful this is all there is to the mechanism. Hina after all doesn’t have access to a power from her ballot, and if personal Counts alone determined the effectiveness of a ballot, then Licht would be screwed no matter who he goes up against. Guaranteed there’s at least one more missing piece, and it revolves around why ballots exist in the first place.

Of course finding out about the reason(s) for ballots is likely to prove the fun part, and we’re already assembling the cast for the mission. It’s a given Lynn and Nana are going to reunite with the professional voyeur for obvious reasons, while the tensions underpinning Lynn’s encounter with Jail indicate another duo of suitable characters for the mission of unravelling the world (and not just because Lynn is a total cutie pie. No really, I swear). It’s not hard seeing for example that someone is pulling the wool over everyone when it comes to Counts and is fully determined to monopolize their potential power for purposes yet unknown. How Licht is still alive and why he as an Ace is being actively hunted? Enough to elucidate that other Aces are also alive and that one or more are firmly entrenched in the current political order—and determined to prevent others from taking their positions. It’s honestly anyone’s best guess just where specifically Plunderer is going with all of this, but it’s enough to make me curious to find out, even if only for a season.

After all you know you’re interested in finding out how our masked vagabond escapes his current predicament too.

One must be mentally prepared since it’s gonna be a wild (cruel) ride from here on. I’m glad the fighting sequence is animated nicely though it’s not top-notch yet.

I still find it very hard to believe Jail has pierced 12000+ people to get that kind of power because he’s by far a normal human right? And not some advanced being by accident? I guess I just have to accept that Plunderer’s world has unexplained/unknown magic and that nothing looks as it seems. For now.

And if I’ve to choose the best girl, I’ve to say Lynn despite her being so naive; yet this is just the beginning of her character development and I hope we get to see more of her even if I know this adaptation still have to stick to the source material.

  2. Wow double his number; should make for a good fight next episode. My guess is that the tables will turn when or if Hina could? give Licht her 10,000 ballot number to him if possible….

    1. His sword is obviously a Ballot Holder and that’s why they’re chasing him. But the big question is why many BHs are in different forms if that were the case. Even before Hina reveals her BH, Licht was already a wanted fugitive, but mainly because he’s SOMEONE DIFFERENT or in other words, DANGEROUS to the military. If he really has something the military wants, then their Colonel General will have it whatever it takes.

But I guess we just have to see this fight to the end. I doubt that Licht is weak to go against a Lieutenant and given his skills fighting against that lame soldier in 1st ep, I’m sure his number isn’t his real number given that Jail can also “manipulate” his number.

    2. Potentially, but it’s not clear if ballot holders can hold more than one ballot yet. For this upcoming fight I suspect Licht has a different means of getting out of dodge.

If you’re referring to his ballot number that would be really funny if true. Such a ridiculously simple way of powering him up later 😛
