「グッバイ・ブルー・スカイ (Goodbye Blue Sky)」 (Gubbai Burū Sukai)
“Goodbye Blue Sky”

Finding Jimi is turning into a wild goose chase. Not only did Myu and Echo not find out much about who he is or where he comes from, but the country of Gnome has proven to be even more mysterious now that they’ve set foot there.

Roz, the only human left in Gnome, lives alongside the Earless. These Earless are the lost souls of her people from a decade ago when the previous Earless with whom they lived peacefully tore down the entire land. When Myu and Echo come face to face with her, she shares some grim news. Echo has ‘sound sickness’, one of the many symptoms that indicate he’s about to turn into an Earless.

This is news to me. Last I heard, the Earless were people who failed to become Players, not their partners. The Valentines seem like they’re doing fine. But I wonder if Echo is ‘failing at becoming a Player’ because he doesn’t know what music is. Can he not hear the tune like Myu can? Is it an innate ability or can he learn? Echo might have succeeded in reassuring Myu but he won’t be able to hold off the change for much longer.

It’s clear now that Jimi and Myu aren’t from Gnome. It just so happened he showed up out of the blue sky into their lives and learned their ways of living side by side with the Earless. Myu, based on what we know, had never set foot in Gnome before. There are just a few things that seem unclear. Myu’s core, which was Jimi’s, has some kind of reaction to Gnome’s Pink Floyd looking Prism when she cries out for help. Perhaps the energy within her core is an energy Roz’s father embedded in it, which is why she was able to see the ‘door.’

That said, how did Jimi, way back when, find Gnome if they had a protective shield? Perhaps they didn’t have one back then. But how did the Twisted Sisters find Gnome if the barrier was up the entire time? This pop-up trio reminds me a lot of Jessie and James from Pokemon. I know – horrible comparison. But really. They just keep getting ‘blasted away’ by Myu’s Top Boost, barely creating a dent in Echo’s equipment.

As they return, maybe they’ll reveal a little more about why they believe Myu’s core is proof of Dada… Do they want the power for themselves or are they showing up to challenge Myu into harnessing its true power?

Overall, this episode was possibly the darkest one since the series premiered. Roz’s loss, Echo’s incurable disease, and Myu’s continued search for her brother created a tone much heavier than the previous episodes, leaving us feeling helpless.

Will Jimi ever really be found? Myu only just found out about her brother, and she’s developed a connection with Echo. I imagine her story will end tragically, especially if Jimi turns out to be gone and Echo turns into an Earless.

Also, who’s side are you on? Do you want the Earless to live freely in this world or should they be wiped out for the safety of humanity? Tread carefully, because your answer might mean the end of our innocent Echo.

This will be my final coverage of Listeners, as I’ve just taken on a new job starting this month. I’m leaving you in Zaiden’s hands, who I know will be offering great insight and opinion.

  1. The most obvious Pink Floyd references, aside from epsode title, included the prism (Dark Side of the Moon), the reference to The Wall, the pig from “Animals”, the beds from “A Momentary Lapse of Reason”, and the place name “Gnome” which is from the Syd Barrett-era album “Piper at the Gates of Dawn”.

    Any others?

    1. I think the Military in Londinium are all mods! According to the official website, episode 7 will be about Nir arriving in Londinium and meeting two war-orphans that were raised in the same orphanage: Ritchie (based on Sid Vicious/Simon John Ritchie) and Lyde (based on Johnny Rotten/John Lydon). Lyde is an amp builder, and he hates the military (the guys with mods style) that controls the city. The name of military members that have been listed so far are Tommy and Sally – must be from songs by The Who.

  2. I think to be a terrific listener you need to concentrate and additionally listen what’s being said, or maybe no longer stated. So that you can asses the state of affairs you’re handling whether or not it is someone claiming to be suicidal, or handling customer service.
