「欲望にまみれてしまった…」 (Yokubou ni Mamireteshitmatta…)
“I Became Engulfed by Desire…”

Ah from the depths of dungeon diving to more, erm, romantic literary escapades: yupp it’s another week of Hamefura. We may still be in the throes of weekly one-off adventures (or hair pulling fear and concern as Mary knows it), but don’t let that prevent you from stopping to smell the roses. After all, this adorable dork is handing them out.

Part of the challenge of any romance or romcom is knowing when to advance the relationships. Where do you stick the handholding; when is the kiss attempted; who will be the first to speak the tender loving words? It’s a problem Hamefura hasn’t really dealt with yet thanks to the comedy remaining fresh enough for the moment, but we got a taste of where things are going courtesy of ancient magic voodoo. A book which feeds on desires and refuses to let the victim go until the dream is complete? The perfect (and hilarious) way to let minds run wild—and oh did they ever. Georgo’s fantasy was pretty obvious going in considering he’s the only one actively working towards his desires, but I imagine few saw Nicol’s or Keith’s desires coming. Or for that matter Sophia’s (wall slam ahoy!). Methinks our new isekai arrival might want to rethink her strategy for co-opting the Bakarina love since nothing is going to overcome that colossal sweet tooth.

What really made the humour though was both Mary and the dork herself. While pretty obvious Katarina’s desires would not be of the romantic variety, keeping Mary literally out of the picture was slightly surprising when you remember what her desires are and how that would’ve gone over in practice. Although when you get this aftermath it works quite well when you consider Keith cannot be the only cockblock in this series—you need some active female jealousy for spice after all. Considering Mary (and Maria) are the only ones aware of everyone’s desires (and Bakarina knows nothing except sugar and spice), it won’t take much now to push our resident yandere into overdrive, especially when Alan’s desires are now “officially” known to her and he’s already finding serendipitous ways of letting them blossom. Not to say that Katarina will find herself actually forced to deal with such a situation anytime soon (*cries in student council president*), but when she does she now has an extra layer of Bakarina obsession ready to keep the romance mosquitos away.

The only question is when that situation finally makes its appearance.

      1. Mary is the least worried about others knowing their desires. She’s pretty straight forward compared to the rest. The problem is that she’s dealing with a blackhole.

  1. For the anime, I’m shipping the Mary x Bakarina pair hard, though I do generally like the Bakarina female harem route for the laughs (yes, my yuri goggles are on tight for this series). While I agree this episode and last were fillerish episodes, I was surprised by the additional character background of Acchan. I’m not sure if that was true filler material or actual light novel material as I’ve only read the manga equivalent and those flashbacks weren’t in the manga. Overall, I enjoyed this episode despite it being basically a filler.

Also, I love the soundtrack of this series. The last scene with Alan was a very pleasant track to listen to.

  2. Just picked up this series yesterday night. I ended up watching all 8 episodes in one sitting before going to bed at 3am. No regrets!

This anime is so wholesome. Katarina is a fun MC, and all of the character interactions are enjoyable to watch.

    Love it!
