OP: 「つらぬいて憂鬱」 (Tsuranuite Yuuutsu) by Ninomiya Yui

「ピーター・グリルとオーガの姉妹」 (Piitaa Guriru to Oga no Shimai)
“Peter Grill and the Ogre Sisters”

Ahh anime, romcom, sci-fi, and otherworldly isekai aside, no season is ever complete without the complementary ecchi flick, and here to provide that necessary service is Peter Grill. Technically this one came out earlier in the week and I could’ve been on time like a proper human being and looked at it earlier, but as we all know T&A demands the proper treatment, as censoring takes away from the plot—and a lack of plot is obviously problematic. Particularly when your story is all about the best it can offer.

Right off the bat the important thing to note is that Peter Grill is not going to be Ishuzoku Reviewers 2.0. While free-floating breasts, cleavage shots, and every other lusty curvature will clearly feature in abundance, the show is definitely on a budget as twelve-minute runtime and shoestring animation prove. This leads to the usual compression of plot (not to be confused with plot of course) where all we get is that Peter is the macho-est of macho, the worldwide fighting champion who must now fight off hordes of nymphomaniacal women eager to see their children inherit the best human genes can provide. Why he’d fight off (read: give into) such easy advances is shown by Luvelia, his hopeful bride-to-be who just so happens to be as pure as the angels above—and as knowledgeable in matters of the loin as your pet rock. It’s about as decent and comedic as any purely ecchi storyline you’ll find, which frankly is all you can ask for considering we all know why we’re here in the first place. All that remains to be seen is how much the show is willing to provide on that front.

While unlikely to really retain the crowd Ishuzoku Reviewers managed to attract and equally certain to keep things simple, there’s no denying Peter Grill will more than meet any ecchi desires one may have this season. As long as you’re up to deal with short duration and cheap production, nothing this summer will come close to this little weekly romp through the fantasy sheets.

    1. Given it’s a short with this level of budget I don’t think too much justice will be done, this will purely be about how many breasts they can shove in every week and encouraging viewers to give the manga a spin afterwards.

  1. Ah, oni girls…never thought I’d awaken to a new monstergirl fetish, but here we are. Probably began with F/GO‘s Shuten-Douji (Ibaraki-Douji: “Am I a joke to you?”), to Azur Lane‘s Noshiro and Suzuya (to name a couple of kansen in the Sakura Empire roster with oni features), and to some extent, Re:Zero‘s Rem and Ram (single-horned onis, but onis nonetheless). Good grief.

(*In Old Joseph Joestar voice*) OH NO…

OK, considering the show’s (short) episode length (comparable to Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!?), I gave the first chapter of the manga a whirl. Suffice to say, the manga’s first chapter manages to fit a little more story, comedy and worldbuilding into it than the first episode of the anime! (Also, the episode ends with Luvelia about to enter Peter’s room after oni girls Mimi and Lisa just popped his cherry. The manga chapter goes a bit further than that.) Guess the anime’s advantage is uncensored boobies (at least with the AT-X broadcast), but I’m not sure how long that alone will keep me interested…

  2. Am I the only one that found the episode a bit…eh…rapey…?

I guess(?) to some guys (and girls?) the idea of being sexually advanced upon in a very on-consensual way is some sort of dream (?) provided that the advance-or is sufficiently hot (reference any cringey comments on “fugly” girl forcing themselves on protagonist).

In this case the protagonist is engaged and very much intending on saving himself for his SO. Putting myself in his shoes for just a split second was a seriously disturbing experience.

I am guessing that I am probably not the target audience though.

    1. Oh no you’re not the only one, the forced nature of the sexual antics is one of the major criticisms of this series. It’s couched in comedy to try and alleviate it, but all of Peter’s encounters will effectively end the same way.

As for the interest yes it’s a fairly standard fantasy, particularly for guys. Considering how the modern dating scene functions right now, a lot of guys aren’t going to actively reject any attention like this, especially if the girl is a looker. That, however, is a far more involved discussion.

    2. I kinda get what you’re saying but guys are just biologically engineered to accept hot advance-ors. The key test for us to resist, and sometimes it fails. The instinct to spread our DNA is just that hard-wired. It’s probably one of many reasons why guys cheat more than girls.

I wouldn’t go so far to call it “rapey.” After all, it’s not that Peter was “forced.” He was seduced.
