“Survival of the Fittest”
Don’t deny, you knew it was coming. Nana getting caught red handed and Kyouya proven right? Please, cannot have that with plenty of season (and manga) left to go. Although having Nana immediately run headfirst into Tachibana Jin certainly threw things for a loop, because nothing says fun like one upping the mental mastermind with a true connoisseur of chaos.
Out of all the ways for Nana to deflect attention I must admit I never had sunlight activated message sending on the weekly bingo card. While this outcome was always going to happen—i.e. Nana thwarting Kyouya once again—it’s growing a little concerning (at least to me) how increasingly awesome (or ridiculous) Nana’s strategies are growing, largely for the rate it’s draining the well of ideas. Make no mistake, Nana pulling these sorts of tricks is expected and I’m liking what we keep getting, but you can only intensify crazy so much before you’re left with the truly insane that leaves suspension of disbelief firmly in the rearview mirror. It’s why I was suspecting something more down to earth in terms of Nana’s weekly get out of jail card, for while it may have been derivative, it would’ve left some further breathing space for later when the going really starts getting tough and you need to dig into more essential reserves.
Such thinking, however, quickly goes out the window when we get to Jin. This twist I honestly never saw coming; I knew the guy was going to be important and appear eventually given his OP/ED presence, but as a force which makes Kyouya look like baby’s first detective case? Oh now that’s playing dirty. Jin though does help solve Munou na Nana’s current issue of keeping Kyouya on the tail of Nana without actually letting him catch her because it gives Nana an immediate and lethal threat to distract. This isn’t simply about outsmarting Kyouya anymore—she has to keep on doing that while somehow dealing with a guy who can quite literally walk up to her and kill her at any time using any form of man, creature, and ability desired. Honestly I’d call Jin and his talent a veritable deus ex machina if I wasn’t so damn intrigued seeing just how Nana is going to deal with him. Make a deal? Go for the kill? The suspense is palpable (even if I suspect the former over the latter), but one way or another things just got really interesting.
Best stick around boys and girls, the next few weeks are going to be wild.

Oh, it was a good episode. The evil “Michiru” image felt refreshing. Also, it was interesting to see Nana in her genuine state for a longer time than we usually got. And Jin is OP.
I loved Jin’s Michiru in this, it was such a refreshing bit of whiplash seeing the little blondie pop out that box cutter and go full evil face. You’d never expect such a thing from her so it made the reaction all the better. And the best part was catching the initial use of -san over -shan. I thought something was strange when I heard it given Michiru never used anything else with Nana, but barely had time to think on it before we were suddenly dealing with pint sized crazy XD
Yeah, this episode was a decent change of pace.
This was TOO contrived, but still at least this was a jolt to the senses. An episode that was ridiculously different from the previous ones that came before yet somehow manages to still be very entertaining. There is no turning back for me now and best to finish this one wherever the anime decides to end in the bigger story.
The ending here is going to be interesting because of that ongoing status of the manga. I firmly expect a cliffhanger, but how brutal it’ll be is up in the air. Hopefully involves Nana being given her first major defeat though 😛
