「勇者と、魔王?」 (Yuusha to, Maou?)
“The Hero, and the Demon Lord?”

In our latest Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka, Kumoko is getting further ahead as she levels up, but in the process, Julius is progressing through the same dungeon she is occupying on the hunt for some big spiders. But as the episodes comes to a close, killer spiders might be the least of Julius and Shun’s concerns as the Demon King and Hugo emerge as antagonists.

On Kumoko’s end, there isn’t much going on with her in this episode aside from leveling up during a fight with an eel. We do get some funny color commentary from Kumoko as she does the Tarzan yell and channels her inner ninja to defeat the lava eel. Additionally, it was also pretty humorous to see how excited she was to get her new upgrades, complete with dancing with an iPod and conversing with her new double as she celebrates gaining new skills with cursed names.

But the most interesting plot point came from Julius’ party, who came out to take on an army of giant spiders. Although it might hint towards the abilities Kumoko could eventually gain, the white spider’s defeat gives us a clue-in as to the connection that the beasts have with the Demon Lord. And with her eye on most, if not all of the action, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see if she might eventually cross paths with Kumoko as she starts to rise above the ranks and gain even more insidious skills in the process.

The human side was brief this time around and pretty lacking on details, but at the very least, it showed us where exactly Hugo is heading considering how much he wants to murder Shun and how he’s internalized a god complex since he came to the afterlife. Kinda weird how he keeps getting set off because people were impressed with Shun’s penchant for gushing over his brother, but no one has ever accused Hugo of being smart. I mean, he punched a window and likely slashed his wrist against the glass shards. Not quite the makings of someone who could create a universe with their mind.
