Double Agent Hawks

If you ever doubted Hawks, shame on you, as I pretend that I never doubted Hawks back when the manga came out. Coming from a difficult life, but looking up to heroes throughout his childhood and wanting to become a hero who could save others, Hawks is a pretty down to earth individual who’s in the superhero business for selfless reasons. Endeavour, not All Might, was Hawks huge inspiration for loving superheroes.

And that naturally makes him the Bureau’s candidate for becoming an undercover agent to investigate the League of Villain’s inner workings. From the sounds of it, Dabi reneged on their previous agreement. One where a confrontation in the city would take place. But not one which would look so awful for the No.1 Hero – no doubt a twist which will heavily shake public opinion in their safety, if some random villainous mook could cause so much damage.

Todoroki Family Tensions

I enjoyed how the series doesn’t tread lightly around the topic of how shitty Endeavour has been as a father to his children. Does Endeavour deserve redemption? Definitely no, with Natsu blowing up with anger and Shouto directly indicating he certainly hasn’t forgiven their father yet. However, he’s put aside his ego and owned up to the error of his ways. And above all, he doesn’t openly state it, but we see the inner workings of his mind where his reason for fighting villains and keeping society safe is to create a good world for his children.

For all his misguided actions, he actually does do things for their sake. And I think that’s still worthy of acknowledgement. All the children are entitled to process Endeavour’s efforts at reconciliation and decide whether to accept it or not. But I wish them all the best of luck in figuring out their way through the situation.

Concluding Thoughts

What does Deku’s dream mean? It must be something important, considering Deku could see the spirits of every predecessor. As well as the originator of All For One has essentially reached out to Deku by showing his memories, back in the days when he was a younger brother powerless to oppose the whims of his older brother, All For One. We see All For One’s world perspective, that he claims to use his powers to bring about a better world.

However, One For All sees his older brother for what he truly is – having a distorted desire for domination over others. Although the original One For All user was not able to stop his brother, and while All Might’s victory over All For One ended up being temporary, this is the story of how Deku became the greatest hero – which presumably suggests the story of how he overcomes All For One and its legacy.

Anyway, that’s about everything I wanted to discuss. As always, thanks for reading this post and see you all next week!

  1. Knowing where Hawks really comes from, I felt nothing but a squirm in my guts as I watched the hero commission basically coerce him into serving as a double agent. Maybe that’s why he could relate to Endeavor rather than All Might. Perhaps he saw in him a man who always swam up against a waterfall.

While I do appreciate Fuyumi trying to patch things up within the family, such desire is all too ideal to the reality of Endeavor’s abuse of just about everyone in the Todoroki household. I almost feel sorry she can’t see that.

That golden vestige is obviously All Might. My question is: Who are the two vestiges beyond him?
