「マザー、からの厄介蜘蛛人形?」 (Mazaa, Kara no Yakkai Kumo Ningyou?)
“Did Mother, Send These Annoying Puppet Spiders?”

This week’s Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? is eventful on Kumoko’s end as she ends up triggering the Mother Spider’s sensors to trap her body-brain avatars within her while her children swarm Kumoko. Although the heat is on for what Shun has to go through next, this episode takes its time to focus on the on-going war that Kumoko has with the spider that is peeved that one of her daughters would rebel so easily.

While there have been more exciting episodes, this one helps to kickstart the next phase of the second cour by setting the scene for Kumoko’s main stand-off against the Mother Spider. Since we’re still establishing the ultimate threat that is the massive spider mom, Kumoko is pitted against some of her elite siblings, including turbo spiders and a multi-armed puppet with blades. There is also a small hint for the future with Kumoko’s survival giving her the chance to evolve to Zana Horowa. Thankfully, the episode is mostly CGI so the art can only be as bad as it was beforehand with CG monsters fighting each other rather than the incoherent magic spells firing off paired up with static posing.

Speaking of that side of the story, the ending scene also gives us Shun reeling over Sue’s brainwashing as the others, including Katia, try to console him for the blame he places on himself. As Shun tries to move on though, he’s given the bad news that, if they are going to map out their path to the elf village before Hugo slaughters them, they are forced to go through the same labyrinth Kumoko escaped from. Whether Shun eventually crosses paths with Kumoko or not through this experience is all up in the air, but it should provide some food for thought as the second cour continues.

  1. I’m curious to see what will happen to her parallel minds when she evolves without them in her mind, are they just going to change shape while eating mother’s mind? Haha.

  2. Shun will almost certainly not meet Kumoko in the labyrinth because Kumoko’s time in the labyrinth and Shun’s timeline with the demons declaring war on the humans is separated by 15 years as was revealed quite a number of episodes ago. There’s literally no reason for Kumoko to still be in the labyrinth unless she wants to feel some nostalgia for old time’s sake

  3. This was really toughest fight yet for Kumoko.
Gotta give Mom Spider props for predicting Kumoko’s reaction.
    “When in danger teleport home”
Then she predicted Kumoko will head for hot lava layer, so she positioned puppet roadblock.
    As for T+15 human side…
Shun is gonna be sorely tested by Great Elroe Labirynth.
God knows what horrors took places vacated by Alaba (and possibly Darth Mom)
