「腹黒系汚職騎士」 (Haragurokei Oshoku Kishi)
“Corrupt, Black-Hearted Knight”
I must confess, it took a great deal of effort to concoct this post. Many a tear were shed through the typing, the agony at times severe. Why suffer through such a task you ask? Because my sides have been thoroughly abused. I didn’t know what to expect this week, but what we got was fantastic.
The challenge of comedy is always imagination and execution. It’s not good enough to only have a funny joke, it also has to be dropped at an appropriate time or else all that effort runs the gauntlet from boring to inappropriate. It’s why comedy will always be subjective material and why Sentouin has arguably stumbled at times earlier this season. No matter the quirky characters, regardless of setting, a lot had trouble clicking in place – at least until this week. Pancakes biases aside (what can I say, my sense of humour is robust), there’s just something beautiful about watching a successful Grimm curse lead into two-way seduction gone wrong and Six literally topping off festivities with the most appropriate sort of party trick. Aren’t you glad to now know why Kazuma is so damn tiny?
Outside of party tricks, gold digging, and oh so enjoyable demon teasing, plot-based tidbits weren’t lacking either. Besides the fun of watching water wars emerge in real time (if only there was a prayer to solve the problem) that’ll keep Six and Alice rolling in tasks for a while to come, the very eccentric nature of this world and the presence of modern tech are growing increasingly more curious and blatant in its teasing. While I don’t expect much on this side of Sentouin to be revealed anytime soon (let alone this season), the further mentioning of ruins and Alice’s own interest in them means it’ll turn into an important plot point sooner or later – and one which certainly will tie back to the shenanigans Kisaragi gets up to.
After all, there’s nothing which says Six and Alice were the only agents dispatched to this planet, or that such other agents were dispatched into the same time period. Not that I think things will turn out like this – but just imagine how glorious it would be if they did.
