Episode 19 of Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! was an emotional rollercoaster as Jahy’s plans to leave the roost and develop her own pub are interrupted by an all-out conflict between the Gray Eminence known as Su-chan and the Demon Lord. But as Jahy begins reflecting on those who have made her experience on earth pleasant and joyful, it pushes her to put her body on the line to bring out a truce between the two.

JAHY AND HER CONFIDANTS

I mentioned last week that I saw shades of Maid Dragon in the current conflict with Su-chan, but Episode 20 really was the closest I got to have the same level of sentimentality and superpowered combat I had with Season 02 ofMaid Dragon. It packed a lot of weight to see Jahy muster up the strength she had to try to stop the two deities from blowing craters into her town.

After seeing her pick herself up after the rough news that Ryou is mad that she’s so quick to move on, Jahy can’t help but reflect on all of the positive experiences she’s had as she worked at the pub. Even after the Barkeep encourages her to do her own thing, it still isn’t easy for Jahy to let go of the mother-daughter relationship she cultivated with the Barkeep.

It made it all the more dramatic when Jahy fell incapacitated to the Dark Lord and Su-Chan’s beams. For being so prickly and egotistic, she made strong connections with those around her and wound up being a presence that people would truly mourn for if she were to fade away or leave for good.

THE GRAY EMINENCE

But when Jahy recovers, she has bigger fish to fry as Su-Chan explains the role she had in the Dark Realm’s destruction. It was pretty funny to find out that it was a surprise visit gone wrong when Su-Chan wanted to go visit her estranged sister in her new, fancy realm.

At the same time, it’ll be neat to see if they ever build on the relationship the Dark Lord and Su-Chan had. As sisters, it seems that Su-Chan was never able to let go of the idea that her sister was more introverted and wanted to be more to herself as she built a realm around her.

It also calls to question if the remaining mana crystals will be recovered for Jahy’s sake or if the Dark Realm’s recovery was never in the plans for either of the two deities. I imagine with the Dark Lord being more docile and reclusive, she might’ve realized that the human world has the resources she’s looking for, and lose interest in having her own place. Having Su-Chan back is even more of a deterrent since rekindling their relationship will likely serve to merge their worlds together. I’m not prepared to let Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! go just yet with its finale on the horizon, but it’ll be interesting to see where the characters go from here, and if Jahy will be able to decide whether she wants to have her own place immediately.
