「ファ美肉おじさんと自由人」 (Fabiniku Ojisan to Jiyuujin)
“A Guy Who Reincarnated as a Fantasy Knockout and a Free Spirit”

Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan to’s sixth episode kicks into high gear as Tachibana and Jinguji find themselves being introduced to the Goddess of Night who blessed Schwartz with his abilities. But as they make their way back on the road to the royal capital, they end up in greater danger as Hinata is roped into a sticky situation as a potential sacrifice.

SLEEPY GODDESS

I enjoyed seeing the Goddess of Night in this episode because she feels very relatable to me. Aside from the constant drowsiness, she just has a very great vibe as a chill deity who can casually mingle with anyone that wants to have a reasonable chat. If Schwartz hadn’t been consistently fumbling his way through the world and losing his sword, he’d be the perfect hero for the Goddess of Night.

It is funny to see how differently Schwartz is treated because he gels well with the Goddess of Night. As soon as the townspeople come to realize that Schwartz could easily summon a Goddess, they all sing a different tune, and you even have folks like Lucius kneeling down in lock-step to pay their respects to the Goddess and her hero. On the same coin, it’s hilarious to see the Goddess of Night rub it in that she was able to grant Schwartz more combat-worthy abilities and stats than the hard deal that Tachibana got.

TELL IT TO MY HEART

Speaking of Tachibana, it was a tough episode for him as he had to deal with the power imbalance that he was given as a result of the Goddess of Love’s curse. While Jinguji can clear through hordes of enemies, Tachibana was only now able to determine that her charm spell affects others differently. It’s a useful skill for espionage considering that it exposes the town’s lord for being transparent in wanting Tachibana for status reasons. But at the same time, what good is free hospitality and food if Tachibana would have to be shared with the lord’s friends?

On top of this, Tachibana has to deal with Jinguji’s possessiveness as he fights his urges. It comes in handy to avoid the lord’s skeevy proposal, but he also withholds his old yearbook confession and scribbles it out so that Tachibana won’t know what his wishes for the future would be.

Tachibana let Jinguji see that he wanted to bring Jinguji with him on a desert island to help take care of him, but Jinguji refused to let him have the same luxury of knowing what was on his mind back then. It’d be easy to tell what it might’ve been, however, because Jinguji is easily swayed to do anything for Tachibana as penance for being secretive enough to anger his good friend. Even if it would’ve been nicer for the two to be transparent with each other regardless if it factors into their relationship developing into something more passionate, it was pretty funny to see Tachibana mischievously play into Jinguji’s guilt by having him treat him to street food.

SOME THINGS LOOK BETTER JUST PASSING THROUGH

Even funnier is the latter end of the episode when Hinata is selected by an odd cult to be sacrificed. Because of the show’s goofy, slapstick kind of tone, it’s quick to diffuse what Hinata assumes to be a horrifying hentai scenario by having the guard bluntly tell her she’s really been captured as a sacrifice. Unsatisfied with being merely treated like a human sacrifice, she tries angling a tamer hentai scenario to no avail when she’s quickly replaced with Tachibana.

While the next episode will highlight how the two are able to escape from an otherwise terrifying sacrifice, we’re left with the hilarity of Hinata realizing that Tachibana is once again overshadowing her. It’s another instance where Tachibana is handed every opportunity on a silver platter because of her charm, but even if said opportunity is being beautiful enough to be sacrificed, it’s a more significant thorn in Hinata’s side that she wasn’t considered beautiful enough to be the go-to answer on who to be murdered for a deity’s blessings.

  1. Man this anime is the comedy fill I have been looking for ever since Konosuba. Lili Lu getting offended by Hinata replacing her as the new sacrifice instead of the prospect of being killed was the highlight of the episode. I hope we get to see more of her in episodes to come.
