「潜入、奴隷商!世に蔓延る悪を探れ」 (Sennyuu, Doreishou! Yo ni Habikoru Aku o Sagure)
“Infiltrating the Slave Market! In Search of the World’s Evil”

I admit I’m still somewhat on the fence over Skeleton Knight’s true intentions vis a vis all the slavery and suffering, but I’m definitely not hating what else keeps on happening week in and out. From the fun of pointy ears and tight squeezes to the next step in fluffy animal acquisitions we’re truly going all out in rounding out this isekai experience. And the best part? Haven’t even hit the midpoint just yet.

One of things I’m loving the most right now with Skeleton Knight is its show not tell approach. While this series as structured will never delve deep into the usual fantasy mechanics on display, simply having a lack of any explanation in general does wonders for keeping things lighthearted and amusing here. Just take Arc’s continual displays of ridiculous magic. Never once is it explained away, not once does an infodump happens to creep out that happy-go-lucky helm. Instead the void is filled with a plethora of action, hijinks, and other miscellanea which establish Arc as a badass who you will love one way or another. The characters too highlight this best: Ariane for example has fully accepted the skellie into her life, while new pickup Danka doesn’t bother with the questions when the results provide all the answers needed. It’s a mighty refreshing approach to the usual isekai shenanigans and I hope it continues.

As for the story at work, we got a bit more on that front. Nothing really spectacular at work right now: local leaders doing the naughty and the neighbouring elf diaspora get to suffer for it. There’s certainly more to this than basic slavery given all the geopolitical info dumped previously, but right now it’s a plot par the course with some certain developments down the line. After all, resident ninja cutie pie is after something related to the nobility, and it’s not a stretch to imagine that also being related to the desire for elves in chains. What that is specifically is anyone’s guess right now, but rest assured we won’t have to wait long.

Considering how quickly this bony boy successfully breaks and enters and rolls over the competition, I’m willing to bet a Ponta plushie on it.

  1. It still bothers me that ponta is green. He should have been orange like a traditional fox lol. We’re approaching one of my favorite scenes in the manga, I hope the anime does it justice.

  2. It seems like Ariane is already starting to “like” Arc (and who could blame her?) so I wonder how she is going to react when she finds out that he is not just a human but a human skeleton. Of course he is a skeleton who can eat and drink and smoke so maybe he can do “other stuff” as well.

  3. I got to say every time I tune into GAIKOTSU KISHI-SAMA, TADAIMA ISEKAI E ODEKAKECHUU I get sucked into the Opening theme with the illustrations and the sound effects. The OP is so epic and it draws my attention more than the episodes. I don’t want to admit that I watch this Anime mainly for the theme song.

on another note why is Arc holding back, with his skills he could wipe out the bandits who are interested in making a quick coin with young elves. Arc doesn’t need to show restraint to a bunch of deplorables.

  4. opening is great, one of best things about this show – along Ponta, of course!
Arc is powerful but not stupid… He has been in one hostage situation before and he doesn’t want any more of them, also, collateral damage in the town (compare Mio and Tomoe levelling city that had some bandits in it in Tsukimichi…)
Though there are limits to his sneaking abilities, as seen in the final scenes…
