「上級悪魔(グレーターデーモン)はチートでした」 (Gurētā Dēmon wa Chīto Deshita)
“The Greater Demon Cheated”

I love the drama in this series, I’m indeed very much enjoying it, and Fran is always adorable to watch, and frankly is making the series work for me in more ways than one. This time around, we see the conclusion between Shishou, Fran, and the Greater Demon. Turns out he’s one big nasty cheater. But how exactly does the demon cheat? I think it has something to do with the magic system in this series. The demon is filled with tons of AOE attacks, and totally spams them toward Fran, Shishou later reveals that there’s a small gap between him casting the spells and recovering MP. The demon is using the power of Meditation to recover all of that magic power. Meanwhile turns out the demon copy skill was null and void towards Fran because she herself doesn’t have the skills but the sword is the one who does, so in a way, Fran is also a super cheat. And let’s not forget they steal the skill stealer from the one who could steal the skills. Of course, the very soft magic system in this fantasy allows for a very quick way to scale up the power. Fran herself went up to level 25 only by defeating the demon. Which is fair because the demon was level 30.

So with a tone of uproar Shishou and Fran come up with a plan together after Shishou puts all of his trust in Fran. It’s fun to see them overcome incredible odds even if it feels a little cheap at times, still being able to sustain the suspension of disbelief. Fran and Shishou can literally accomplish anything they set their minds to. So after some theatrics involving actually throwing the sword at the demon, because Shihsou quickly found out that they were targeting the wrong guy, instead of directly trying to act the demon they try attacking the dungeon master who uses the orb to summon more demons through a gatcha mechanic. But it’s actually a cop-out since her right turns and heads toward the bad guy.

Nevertheless, Shishou plunges at the demon and then uses even more magic to hurl himself inside and break the crystal, in the process destroying himself. I’m glad the moment was played out even if it was sort of a copout, let’s not forget Shihsou can use self-healing and other types of magics that allow him to perform such things as the one he performed this week. Kind of reckless if you ask me, but if it gets the job done, right?

Fran all but bawls her eyes out thinking Shishou is dead, and then the moment is played out for laughs, super fun show because it actually makes you feel things and then plays with your emotions, I kid of course! I knew the moment was being played out for laughs I just really like to go along with it and actually gasp at the screen to suspend my disbelief for a moment or two.

After the dungeon vanishes, revealing a completely new room, as if the dungeon was being projected by VR or something, Fran reunites with everyone at the party, and one big scolding, which she then glares back at Shihshou. But is quickly averted by the power of meat and curry. I mean it was sort of warranted, and Shishou can’t do all of the training someone had to give her a piece of their mind. Meanwhile reporting back to Klimt (Hatano, Wataru) he asks what actually happened to the crystal, and Fran is forced to give a sort of white lie answer since it would be troublesome if the guild found out that she’s using an Intelligence Weapon. Apart from the cheesy spell catchphrases common to this genre and the overdramatic anime isekai moments, this show continues to be enjoyable to watch. Hoping next week brings more thrills and laughs as the action scenes and pacing are overly very good.

Oh yeah, and that annoying character showed up.

Meep!

  1. I’m enjoying this series but sometimes it feels like something’s missing,
like some more world building, I guess? Hard to put my finger on it …

I did like the uncertainty of whether they were going to bug out ’cause
the enemy was too strong – and I thought they actually would there for
a few minutes. But beyond that, even with her losing her hands briefly
(’cause you know she’d get healed somehow), there’s very little tension
because our protagonists are, in effect, invincible.

Animation has been pretty good and very watchable. I’m not sure where
the story’s actually going, though. Will she evolve and if so, what happens
to her? Does the sword (who can mimic a human – remember) become a
human form switching to a sword only when needed (I’m looking at you,
Rimuru)? Just haveta wait and see, I guess 🙂

Like the weapon smith from episode 2 at the end cliff-hanger, I wonder
if the weird guy at the end of this episode’s cliff-hanger will peter out
to some misunderstanding or turn out to be an ally of some sorts.

  2. That scene where Sensei reminds Fran about Curry and Fran ends up in cloud 9. I get so excited and forget I am at work. That scene is too funny and too adorable.

The Demon’s copy skill didn’t work and brought to light that Fran is merely borrowing the sword skill and not actually learning it. Now my question is what happens if Fan can no longer hold the sword (Sensei). Will Fran be able to defend or attack without sensei? How much of a threat will Fran be without a weapon? Fran will need to develop a contingency or disaster recovery plan should she lose the sword (sensei)

Why are we seeing a fat ugly bastard at the end of the episode?
