The end of the year is here and it’s time for the 19th Annual Reader’s Choice poll. Do you have a favourite series you’d like to see win? Are you just curious to see what everyone else enjoyed this year? There’s no electoral college here. The anime with the most votes wins!
Unlike previous years there will only be poll this for you to vote on this year: regularly broadcast TV series (there just hasn’t been enough OVA releases over 2024 to warrant a separate OVA one this time). We’re asking you for your top 5 picks, which should stop the results from being heavily skewed towards the mega-popular shows. This year we have ~200 TV series for you to choose from. Keep in mind that like all entertainment, anime is subjective. There is no one size fits all here. Please respect the opinions of others, even if you may disagree with them.
Criteria-wise, the following is what was used to decide what shows did (or did not) make it onto these lists:
- For a regular broadcast TV series to be considered, it has to have finished airing in 2024 and fit in the general criteria for receiving a preview. Series with another season coming but a clear stopping point in the one we’ve already seen are included. At the same time, shows generally aired for all ages/kids were not included.
As far as we’re aware, the anime series list is complete, barring a handful of shows that are animated but unlike “typical” anime. If you feel there’s something that deserves consideration, isn’t listed, or is listed but shouldn’t be, please leave a comment or send Pancakes/Zephyr an email or tweet Zephyr via @ZephyrRC and we’ll add it in as soon as possible. Please note that the first comment in this post will keep a list of shows added, so keep an eye on that before voting.
With that said, vote away!
Note: To give viewers more time to vote, the polls will close this year at 12:00 AM PST on January 15th, giving you the most time possible before the Best of Anime post comes out with the results later this month. This means the 12:00 AM in the morning in PST or 8:00 AM GMT on the 15th.

Winter: Sousou no Frieren
Spring: Girls Band Cry
Summer: Oshi no Ko S2
Fall: Tsuma Shougakusei ni Naru
Also, small correction for the list I noticed: Dragon Ball and Tohai are both continuing into next year.
Got it, thanks. I’ll take those off now.
There was a third season of Kimi ni Todoke on Netflix?
There sure was – they picked up right where Season 2 left off. Production I.G. is still running the show, and they even brought back all the original voice actors for the main characters. The main difference is that the episodes are each over an hour long. If you liked the original, go watch it.
Sure did. It was fantastic.
So many good series this year, i could easily see Sousou no Frieren at #1, followed by Dungeon Meshi in the top 5.
Choices:
Nageki no Bōrei wa Intai Shitai (Let this Grieving Soul Retire) – best new comedy
Henshi no Salad Bowl – a wonderful but underappreciated reverse isekai comedy
Plus the three greats:
Dandadan
Frieren
Oshi No Ko Season 2
(Runner up: Maoui 2099
(Runner up because it’s a remake: Ranma 1/2)
This poll is not fair by so many ways,
There are shitload of animes per season and we got to pick only 5?
I would’ve increased it to 10 since their numbers is insane to begin with,
Might even go for 15-20 though that pushing it a bit,
but again, the Japanese are insane when it come to the number of amimes they makes so you supposed to even the odds rather than going at it like it’s another western poll.
Also sorry if I may spammed the comments section,
Your site using a very old comments system that filter people out unless they go by specific mail or username (like, seriously change it already), so I had to try many users till one of my comments reached out the page.
Dandadan is defo AOTY
Easily top five, but I dunno man. Frieren, Kusuriya no Shigoto, and Oshi no Ko season 2 went pretty hard.
Wheres Solo Leveling
Normally I’d write a longer post, but life’s been busy and I haven’t enough time to make a longer comment. Anyhow, straight to my top 5 this year:
1. Sousou no Frieren
2. Dungeon Meshi
3. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto
4. Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi
5. Dandadan
A year without any sequals in my top 5! That is great news overall for anime. Fantasy series have been good with Sousou no Frieren and Dungeon Meshi, each with their own unique world, and a totally different vibe/type of series. I’m also a sucker for history, even if it is a fantasized one, which is why Kusuriya no Hitorigoto and Nige Jouze no Wakagimi made the list, both again with very different styles.
Some honourable mentions (which are all sequals):
BLEACH: Sennen Kessen-hen – Soukoku-tan
Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season (even though I haven’t finished it all, its good enough to include)
Mushoku Tensei II 2nd Cour
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! S3
