「狙われた魔剣士学園」 (Nerawareta Makenshi Gakuen)
“Dark Knight Academy Under Attack”
I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a smirk on my face this entire episode. And by smirk I mean massaging aching sides because damn does time fly when busting a gut. We all know by now Eminence in Shadow is going to be funny and that it’s going to get crazy as, well, crazy kicks into high gear, but there’s one thing which is not ceasing to impress me week by week right now: it keeps getting better.
With Cid’s shtick being a full ride through the degree that is professional background character, I’m pretty damn sure everyone saw this bit coming a mile away. Kid getting literally killed for the sake of making that beta male mark? Well, ok, he did surprisingly die – but don’t let that detract from a job well done and another girl added to the harem collection. The sheer blatancy of Cid’s actions and obliviousness to how they play out is really quite impressive for how well they’re being handled, because for all I maintain the magic will run out eventually, it hasn’t yet and truly is benefitting from the imagination in action. Just take Sherry’s running of the enemy gauntlet. Cliché as hell, would probably be just above average elsewhere, yet thanks to nonchalant no shits given chuuni mastermind it became a fun bit of parody. Oh how I’m looking forward to the upcoming showdown with this arc’s boss.
Speaking of bosses, I also think we know how this fight is going to go, and just who the man under the mask is. Sherry for one has all but given the game away, with dear daddy kins just happening to discern the nature of the artifact culprit and also supposedly handing it over to the government for, you know, safekeeping. Yeah, you damn well know where this heading (as teased for a couple weeks running). Plus anytime you foreshadow being able to overpower said artifact with enough magic – i.e. going atomic – is cause for some eager excitement. Mind you, it’s probably unlikely we’ll get Cid practicing his thermonuclear skills for this key background character event (the other artifact puts that idea to rest), but there’s lots of potential to still get some enjoyable beatdowns before all is said and done.
I hope this anime is successful, because the director do hope so. He already set up all the needed foreshadowing for future plot and arc that we are not sure will get adapted or even mentioned in any adaptation. He already prepared the introduction to Alexandria, John Smith, Nishimura Akane, and even the possibility of that little finger joining ( i deduce it by seeing Cid’s “O’ my convenient heart and Auto Hand Defibrilator!” ) ! I hope it sells a lot and has lots of nice ntr doujin.
On the other hand, Steam technology was already adapted in this world building (at least Sherry noted on replacement to the less efficient Steam Technology), yet Alfa noted it as one of Shadow’s ingenious wisdom that is considered too advanced for this world…, though the world building already introduced us to steam and arquebus musket…. sooo, either the author had a change of plan or director had some idea from the author. I mean diesel and petroleum engine were planned to be included…. so perhaps he think it is dumb to introduce steam in the future after diesel and petrol .
Sherry never played Metal Gear 1, 2, Metal Gear Solid 1,2,3,4,5. She is also unfamiliar with Tenchu or any stealth based game.
The misc. Tidbit prior the preparation adds up the tension, really entertaining to watch
We are taking words from characters who had different viewpoints.
Alpha and Shadow Garden sees the steam engine ingenious because Shadow show it to them and feel it’s more convenient.
Sherry thinks magic surpassing the steam machine is due to bias and her research on it.
Pretty much this, I wouldn’t read too much into it.
