Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 13 (END)

“Song of Flowers 3″

Hana no Uta is nowhere near greatness (you’d still need a consistently strong narrative for that) but it’s a damn good bit of fun, and a great example of how strong execution is able to make up for where a series falls short.

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 11, 12

“Song of Flowers 1, 2″

Nothing feels quite a refreshing the second time around, even if its the “yandere psychopath with one hell of an obsessive streak” card being played.

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 10

(Roku no Ichi )
“One of Six After”

It’s the last of the “lite” episodes that pretty much made up half of Yozakura Quartet before we move into the titular arc, but in a strange way, I’m probably gonna miss these moments.

Asobi: I’ll be taking a leave of absence next week to focus on my work, so episode 11 will be push back as a double post with 12. I’ll see you guys back during Christmas!

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 09

(Roku no Ichi Zen)
“One of Six Beginning”

Are we really getting only one season? It seems like a shame when the story is just hitting a good stride now, after spending most of the season in an extensive prologue.

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 08

(Ibaramichi.)
“Thorny Path.”

It does feel a little strange to find ourselves back at Yozakura Quartet’s “downtime”.

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 07

“Thorny Path 3″

I can continue to say all I want about the story, but Hana no Uta does put on a damn good show regardless.

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 05, 06

“Thorny Path 1 / 2″

I think I’ve already given plenty of credit to how Yozakura Quartet can be so unabashed about its confidently blasé narrative and still be this enjoyable.

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 03, 04

(Susumidasu / Sono Toki wo)
“Moving Forward / That Time”

Yozakura does great at two things; characters and atmosphere. But what about the story?

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 02

(Haru no Kaze)
“The Wind of Spring”

There ain’t a whole lot to say about episode oh-too of Hana no Uta because it’s simply more of what we’ve seen in episode one; but it ain’t a bad thing either.

Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta – 01

Whether you’re new to Yozakura Quartet or a long-time follower, Hana no Uta‘s first episode eases us into a great reintroduction for the rebooted series.

Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi – 03 (END)

This post is over two months overdue, as the final manga-bundled OAD for Yozakura Quartet came out in early November, but I wanted to give a few quick impressions on this three-part series that goes all the way back to fall of 2010.

Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi – 02

It’s been a good six months since the release of the first OAD episode, but the sight of the more blob-like character designs in Tatsunoko Production’s variation still draws me in the most about it. As mentioned in my episode one post, these manga-bundled episodes are a departure from author/artist Yasuda Suzuhito’s style that was more closely adhered to in Nomad’s television series adaptation.

Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi – 01

As a treat for manga readers, the trend these days seems to be bundling Original Animation DVDs (OADs) with volume releases that animate a few parts of the original source material. In the case of ones that had already seen an adaptation like Yozakura Quartet, these bonus episodes also tend to please the purist crowd, who strongly feel that the anime should be an exact moving and talking version of what they read.
