「降霊」 (Kōrei)
“Seance”

Coming right out of the episode – there’s only one thing to say. The animation capped off, went off, and shot out into the stratosphere. This is the kind of jaw-dropping intense action that glues you to the edge of your seat. If there was ever anything that was meant to be delivered, it was delivered, packaged, sealed tight, exported, and shipped. It was this.

The animation of this episode has me hanging on a thread as every second my eyes are unable to unglue themselves from the screen.

I am left gasping for air as the episode ends, needing more only to have the inevitable realization that there’s a one-week difference between each episode.

But that’s what makes it exciting – a show this good begs itself to be waited for with bated breath.

Formality aside – let’s dive into the episode, once again, you get my first impressions. Unadulterated thoughts as they come and I get to write them, you get the pleasure of experiencing them. The animation – superb? As it waist no time and jumps us into the action, Mago, the dude with the mullet, (Watanuki, Ryuunosuke), Ogami (Karasawa, Jun), and Jirou (Hirota, Minoru), all protect the veil that is being cast under Shibuya. They get introduced as minor characters, that are about to play a big role in the overall narrative.

Yuji, Megumi, and Takuma, all head over to them as they realize that the one controlling the veil should probably be in the most obvious places. From there they are quickly found out and a battle ensues, seemingly as both Yuji and Megumi chase after Jirou while Takuma stays with Mago and Ogami to try and defeat them. Then a battle ensues between the two groups, and the show cuts away at key moments to show both sides. Masterfully pacing itself through what is the most intense 24 minutes to have graced the TV screen. Not without its twists and turns of course. Rabbits included!

First off, Kaichi, Reiki, Kirin, and Ryu, the Auspicious Beast’s Ino summons to help him, unlike Shikigami, they don’t materialize, instead a part of them does to help Ino, just as long as his face is covered. First, he tries to use a horn-like object that acts as a homing missile, and the other technique he uses allows him to control water that he can ski under, the third technique was stopped just before it was initiated, and Kirin seems all but absent during this fight.

But oh there’s more and it’s delicious! Mago ingests what seems like a small piece of flesh in a tube, only to reveal that Toji has come back from the dead and now has become somewhat like Sakuna?!

That’s my initial line of questioning of course, but all shall be explained in due time. Indeed the fight just got a lot harder.

Switching to Megumi and Yuuji, Megumi mentions just how much power it requires to keep up with Itadori, and his incredible strength is something to be commended. I’m still eagerly waiting because Sakuna has all but been dormant this whole season, as we approach the 12-episode mark I hope there’s some kind of plot point that brings him back.

Back to the fight, Megumi quickly finds out the weak spot of this man and he has some sort of inverse curse that they have to get around, otherwise, they will never be able to hit him. Megumi summons the bunnies! And trap the guy as they come up with their next plan. Megumi and Yuuji perform an intricate dance around each other as they make this plan come to fruition. It was an accelerating watch!

I think the biggest takeaway from this episode was just how many atrocities Ogami’s group committed, but it’s because of Gojo’s birth that they had to put a holt to their crimes, including poke’ing around the skull of seemingly bystander kept alive through curses with only his head. It’s dark stuff. Another aspect of the episode that left me shocked! But JJK has always been a dark series, that just goes to show how much curse users can get away in terms of body horror that we may not be just yet aware of. That aside, I can’t wait for more episodes of JJK!
