「都市庁舎奪還作戦」 (Toshi Chousha Dakkan Sakusen)
“Take Back the Government Office”

Busy work weeks suck (woe be to the unplanned necessities), but I’m happy knowing Re:Zero is around to lighten the load. Or at least in a sense because in this series’ fashion developments certainly aren’t. With all the Sin Archbishops introduced last week the next logical step is to divvy out the battles, so lo and behold that happening this week. And you can bet it’s only going to get more violent from here.

While brought up previously, the one thing about the latest conflict in Re:Zero is how different Subaru is acting during it. Greed running off with Emilia would’ve been an instant rush into danger with an overreliance on Return by Death to patch the mistakes, but now the kid is actually stopping, taking a breather, and correctly assessing the priorities (much to the surprise of some). It makes for a nice bit of character maturation on Subaru’s part and also reinforces his growing bonds with the rest of the cast, something which nary a season or two ago would’ve also been a source of conflict. Sure, don’t expect the likes of Julius to ever fully see eye to eye, but Subaru is doing the part to ensure the good guys aren’t going to lose all that easily. Just need to look at Garfiel to see how Subaru’s grown mentality helps passively direct anger and rage in the right direction.

Of course the real test to this will be in the fight against the archbishops themselves, and should similarly be no shocker how the matchups are playing out. Gluttony is the obvious one to start given the very personal involvement with Rem and Crusch, but don’t think Subaru’s fight will be entirely constrained to handling the shark toothed monster – Lust for one will be a very interesting opponent once she (spoiler alert) reveals her true form and powers, and let’s not forget about Greed who must be targeted if only to rescue Emilia. It’s a given there will be death sooner rather than later (and Subaru experiencing further Return by Deaths), but the chaotic nature of this battle and the strong likelihood of archbishops cooperating for the sake of their objective make matters all the more uncertain. Who will live? Who will die? And just who will luck out and avoid serious trouble?

One way or another we’re about to find out very soon.
