「アイ・アム……」 (Ai Amu)
“I am…”

Well things certainly went places didn’t they? Explosive places. Nuclear places. I may still have some reservations on just the type of show Eminence in Shadow wants to be, but keep up stuff like this and I’ll be one happy camper indeed.

With how isekais play out these days having Cid run absolute roughshod over Zenon was to be expected, even if the degree was left up to the imagination. While I’m sure there’ll be complaints over the animation (because there always is), moments like this are quintessential to the power fantasy experience: minimal talking and explanations, quiet yet quick powering up, and one hell of a finishing move. Heck it also reinforces just how ridiculous Cid’s abilities are, with the one thing holding him back being his chuuni mindset and humorous desire to play the background character. Or deadly desire, honestly I think the kid is guilty of both at this point. He may be fighting legitimate enemies, but having the shackles of personal fantasy is a nice way of ensuring there’s a lot of fun yet to wring from this story.

Speaking of story, it’s looking like we’re set to start getting that in greater detail. Iris for one has been let in on a world she never knew existed, and being the first princess means it’s something she cannot ignore for the hell of it. Likewise is the cult themselves, Zenon was pretty explicit in his being middle manager level at best, indicating that Cid and company won’t be lacking in new and interesting enemies anytime soon. Personally I’d like to get some better idea over how the cult plans on resurrecting their demonic sugar daddy for the sake of understanding (even though we already have inklings on it), but I suspect such information will pop up before too long. Cid’s little cosplay as an atomic bomb is enough to encourage retribution after all, and with that seemingly already making waves among the mainstream crowds, I think challenger no. 2 is ready for their debut.

It’s only a question of if said individual appears before or after Cid can explain his significant blood loss to the next cutie pie acquisition.

  1. I just hope Millia is saved, pity. Her design look very cute, a shame to let it go to waste. The wn seems to have her fate quite ambiguous. I seems to recall someone with similar name, and she is quite clingy interesting character.

I like Alexia, she felt like a more genuine character than other princessy character in other novel , manga or anime. Her characterninteraction is the best amongst other character, second best is Claire Onee-sama. Rose is no less delightful, as her delusion grows even more amusing with passage of time. I hope her anime counterpart wasn’t too stuck-up strict character. In manga she looks overly relaxed and caring. As Cid puts it best ‘a genuine fem protagonist archetype.’ That is why the misunderstanding is very interesting.

Glad, Sherry is given fateful encounter trope common in romcom. Because the nonchalant encounter while canonically legit to the character and structure, but it was close forgettable. The impression last longer and felt stronger than the novel.

  2. This is the Shadow I remember: over the top to levels of self-parody.

Honestly, I’m liking the anime more and more. As I mentioned in another review, it’s doing better at the more dramatic parts, as well as worldbuilding. I’ll be here for the ride after finishing the first arc. Still, I must admit I like manga Shadow more.
