“A Villain is Born!?”
Hard to believe it’s already 2024, yet Christmas is now over, New Years is now past, and winter anime is officially upon us. And not just in force: the titillating variety as well. Say what you will about ecchi series, but if there’s one that’s certain to define the genre this year as a whole, Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete is without a doubt it.
Per the RandomC Preview, Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete is basically what happens when you mesh Madoka edginess with early 2010s harem lasciviousness. In this world magical girls are a fixture: they’re always flying around, always in action, and as per the case of lonely and introverted Hiiragi Utena (Izumi Fuuka), always something to be admired and looked up to. Yet Utena winds up getting the opportunity of a lifetime when the customary mascot Venalita (Fukuen Mizato) shows up to make Utena a magical girl herself – just not the ordinary sort of one. You see Venalita is of the evil variety, and has so decided that Utena is the perfect candidate to keep evil deeds going strong because deep down she doesn’t want to be a magical girl as much as punish them. Hard. Thus where Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete makes its great differentiation: this show is all about magical girls gone bad.
While easy to write Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete off given the synopsis, in truth it’s stronger and more entertaining than initially meets the eye. For one it goes all in on its ecchi comedy, wasting little effort – and having absolutely no censorship in one of its airing versions – when it comes to raunchy transformation sequences and, shall we say, interesting forms of magical girl comeuppances. The sly willingness of the show to humorously showcase the very evident sadomasochist undertones without fully giving into them made for some gut busting scenes, particularly when it comes to Utena realizing she actually likes wielding the whip. Or tentacles. Or, hell, just full on tickling into orgasmic nirvana. Tack on the whole totally not a BDSM session affair effectively being one big blackmail scheme on the part of Venalita and his blunt willingness to not shy away from it and darling you’ve got yourself a pretty fun setup. Remains to be seen how long of legs said setup has, but provided Utena keeps up with the fantastic reaction faces, it’s longer than you might expect.
Although a few more episodes will be needed to get a better sense of what Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete is about (mostly in terms of overarching plot – err, other plot), with decent animation and a focus on comedy this will be one ecchi show any such fan will want to keep an eye on. Between risqué visuals and a penchant for gut busting, suggestive humour, I dare say it’s going to be this season’s true guilty pleasure.

This was a riot~! 2024 came out swinging in full I gotta say, lol
I wonder if we’ll get an extended edition once this gets a blue-ray release, cause if yes, I’m definitely down, like Futoku no Guild
If the rest of the episodes are gonna go this hard, this’ll be the comedy of the season in my books
I had a few expectations before the premiere but this definitely surprised me in a good way as well. The comedy aspect especially is going to be great XD

I’m kinda miffed that they decided adapt this instead of the author’s earlier and more wholesome work. But can’t really complain if it’s adapted well, but I kinda wished Kumika will eventually be adapted.
The ecchi probably explains why it got the go ahead: easier to draw a crowd, encourage looking into the source material, and making a tidy profit while at it.
Not gonna lie, this was way more fun than it should have any right to be. That magical girl transformation scenes being interrupted by the screams of pain when their magical undergarments materialize over their sore butts was so unexpected that it tickled my funny bone almost as hard as the girls would be minutes later.
I nearly spit out my drink when that transformation sequence happened, never anticipated a whip spanking gag to be carried out like that. Really curious finding out just how Utena torments these poor girls next because the possibilities are limitless given the foundation lol
In the year of our lord 2024 I was not expecting an anime adaptation to be more lewd than the manga

It was a good thing I watched Otaku Sprit’s 2024 Winter review before watching this Anime. The NSFW content would have made it difficult to explain what I watched on my iPhone at the company lunchroom/kitchen on Wednesday to my employer.
With that said, I feel as though it would be best to wait till EOB then watch Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete. This way, I don’t have cooworkers questioning my character personally, socially, and professionally—hehehe! Socially, I don’t have a social life.
I was hoping Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete would be like Machikado Mazoku, which Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete is not. Some scenes reminded me of Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! art. Then again I maybe imagining things.
You’re not the only one who expected something more like Machikado Mazoku (just with some lewd moments); getting near BDSM and risque scenes was a major surprise, albeit one that doesn’t feel too off putting. As long as the comedy keeps up it’s easily a guilty pleasure and definitely not fit for public consumption haha
I’m going to be really busy this month, but sure as anything I’m going to keep watching this show! I’m up to date with the manga so if the anime stays one notch ahead on the lewdness front then I’ll be well pleased.
Maybe I’ve seen too many hentai.
There’s so much wrong with this, but I find it really funny. Even laughed every time Utena gets blackmailed. Best part was the transformation sequence. Never really think about how tight those clothes usually are. Until now.
