「闇に惑う」 (Yami ni Madou)
“Lost in the Dark”
Overall, I’d have to say that I’m a bit disappointed after last week’s performance with this follow-up episode. While I think it’s great that there’s so much going on… it didn’t feel like it used up the potential of the build-up last week. The quality took a dip and you can see it in the shots of Kasane flying away or in Masaomi’s fight with Ran. It wasn’t terrible, but there is room for improvement for sure. The episode also had a lot going on but not enough to really progress the plot. The only interesting thing to come out of it was at the beginning and end and honestly, all the stuff in the middle could’ve been fluff. Anyway, let’s go into a bit more detail as to what actually happened:
The most shocking part of the episode was definitely the beginning… did that just really happen?! Kasane didn’t even give the guy a chance before she swooped in and literally, stole him away from Celty. Celty obviously retaliates by turning into a giant destructive black ball of doom and rampages through the city after Kasane. The whole episode is really a chase before Kasane dumps Shinra with Varona and tries to rope Celty in. There’s not much to say here because the chase hasn’t ended yet… but if it wasn’t clear before, Celty and Shinra are definitely an item and one that you shouldn’t mess with. Unless of course, you’re Kasane and have supernatural powers of your own. I can’t imagine how heartbroken and tormented Celty must be and who would pick a fight with Celty? She’s one of the most loyal and kindest characters on Durarara!! What does Kasane even want?
Now that we’re on the topic of Varona, the whole episode is narrated by her which is unique because most episodes are told from a third-person’s perspective (not involved that episode). We haven’t seen or heard much from her since Ten so it’s weird to see her partnering up with Kasane. Why? How? What does she get out of it, other than the adrenaline rush that she’s been seeking? Last week I thought her relationship with Shizuo was more cemented than the brief fly-by and I’m right – she does see him more of a companion or mentor than just another person. She grew closer to him, and although it’s not “love”, it is some sort of admiration for him. In return, I think Shizuo is a kind person by nature. Remember in the first season when he says he doesn’t like violence? He does care and Celty, Verona and Shinra are all amongst the people that matter to him. I hope Shizuo and Varona get any misunderstands cleared up by the end of the season.
Speaking of Shizuo – he does have a bigger role now! Woot! I’m excited to see him back in the game; even if it’s just to hurt Izaya. I forgot what a great relationship Shizuo and Celty have so it’s no wonder that her horse stops to recruit Shizuo. Shizuo always adds a comedic flare to any scene he’s in and this was no different. I can’t wait to see what happens when he stumbles into Varona again next week (if that).
The fight between Masaomi, Chikage and Ran ran a bit short this week. It wasn’t much of a fight at all actually because Masaomi got the short end of the stick (against a hammer!) and everyone ends up fleeing from the scene shortly afterwards. Chikage is a nice guy and I never thought he was “bad”; he just digs his nose into other people’s business a lot. Masaomi learns that Ran is a member of the Dollars though which only adds more salt on the wound against Masaomi’s fight to “save” Mikado. Not much more to say here, but it’s really sad to see what’s come of their friendship compared to the earlier days. I really liked them as a duo but who were they trying to fool? Themselves…
As we’re getting closer to the end, I can’t imagine just how everyone is going to find peace with all the chaos thrown around. If it was Izaya’s goal to simply ruin everyone’s lives… well he has. And he deserves to burn for it but I’ll be patient and maybe he’ll get what’s coming for him soon. Saki meets up with Anri at the end of the episode which was different…? I wonder why. I never thought Saki looked like a trustworthy person but that might be her past with Izaya and his manipulation of Masaomi that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Whatever Saki wants to talk about, I hope it’s to reunite Masaomi and Mikado rather than creating a rift between Anri and them too.
Bottom Line – @RCCherrie: A lackluster episode of #Drrr_anime to follow-up last week’s =( Most interesting part was the beginning and the end. Not that that’s a bad thing… but I thought more would come out of last week’s build-up. Oh wells, hope #drrr_anime delivers next time

the most hilarious point of the episode:
the demonic
steedmotorcyclebike!Walker and his eccentric really annoyed sometime i wished he get punch in face.
That’s just his character… at least he’s a consistent character lol. I really enjoyed his antics at the end of Shou!
This episode felt more like set-up than actual follow-up of last week’s events, which is slightly worrying because DRRR!! has already spent every episode building storylines and potential conflicts. I also don’t know what to make of Kasane; I’ve been enthralled by her every move since her introduction, but I know nothing about her otherwise (except that she might like goth-loli cosplay — thanks to Erika!). Plus I feel bad for Saburo; he really is the only sane one in a city full of crazies (if we disregard his Hijiribe Ruri obsession).
