「初仕事、少女の願いと忍び寄る影」 (Hatsu Shigoto, Shoujo no Negai to Shinobiyoru Kage)
“A First Job, a Girl’s Wish, and an Approaching Shadow”
While we have another episode to wait before the magic of pointy ears graces our presence, Skeleton Knight certainly didn’t waste much time in further reinforcing why it’s going to be more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Take a ludicrous concept, give it some legs and no care in the world, and watch the magic happen.
As should be clear by now, Skeleton Knight will be the more laidback kind of isekai. Outside of Arc wielding some absolutely ridiculous (if par the genre course) powers in what are actually pretty decent action scenes, this one is all about the slice-of-life-experience. This episode was case in point, where the ubiquitous starter quest plotline gave everyone’s new favourite skeleton some additional spending cash while also ensuring warm and fuzzies. Also coming across Tempura Ponta and adding a new member to what’s certain to be one hell of a fun party, though the critter’s impact and his overall level of tolerance are still works in progress. I will say at least that this is one mascot not immediately irritating in looks and personality, which already is a fairly good win.
In terms of actual story, however, we also got a taste of that courtesy of all-too-prominent red band of doom gracing the latest monster of the week. Probably not hard seeing where this going: someone nefarious is letting big scary monsters go berserk in order to accomplish some wicked deed, and one or more upcoming members of Arc’s party will likely be seeking out the one responsible to put a stop to it. Nothing particularly outstanding of course, but again for Skeleton Knight it’s less about originality than nailing the execution. So long as Arc can stay fun with that humorous personality and his utter lack of logic behind form and action (the eating and drinking will never get old) and I have absolutely no complaints about where this series is heading.
It’s only a question of how fast we take to reach the final destination.

Last week it was attempted gang rape with added watersports, now it’s cute little girls and even cuter mascot characters. Seems like the show can’t make its mind up about what it wants to be. And I can’t make up my mind whether to keep watching or not, but I guess I’ll follow the time-honoured tradition and give it another episode.
Aye
Feels like they just needed an other Episode 1 Start. At last they introduced the cute Pet
I think this one will stick to the lighthearted slice-of-life wheelhouse, but yeah the stark difference in material is a little jarring. The overall feel will heavily depend on just how much of the more serious stuff we get which ideally won’t be a lot, at least overtly.
I must admit, this is more enjoyable than I expected. It’s as you say, it’s not groundbreaking, but Arc is a fun protagonist to follow.
The OP is still the best part so far XD
Oh hell yes agreed, the OP is fantastic! Personally I think Mobseka’s is more catchy song-wise, but this one is amazing for showing you in its visuals exactly what this series is about 😛
Mobseka’s is good too, but I think this season’s “Best OP” prize from me goes to Ya Boy Kongming. Or at least “Most Refreshing OP” prize.
Rather than a song for an anime (which can be better or worse, but tend to follow certain styles), it sounds and looks like an entry for the next Eurovision song contest XD
They way they are drawing Arc’s arms is driving me nuts. Forget about making him look like he has no neck, joints just don’t attach like that, skeleton or not. Shoulders are totally out of position.
Welcome to fantasy, where the rules don’t matter and coolness dominates all 😀
Though more seriously I think it’s his shoulder plates screwing with things. They’re so oversized that it’s hard getting an idea of Arc’s actual stature.
Where do I get Ponta plushie?
Asking for a friend…
