「衝撃」 (Shougeki)
“Shock”

Guess you could say the introductory arc is over. Kind of fitting too: four episodes down, key characters introduced, first twist up to bat to keep the interest strong. And considering Helck has proven willing to dole out its secrets by the drop, I’m not seeing that interest disappear anytime soon.

Much as with last week, this episode was all about the antagonistic angels occupying the local castle – except of course said angels aren’t really angels, and neither are they entirely human. In what will be the first of many twists and turns, the current enemy are actually heroes in a way, fledgling awakened humans who have the promise of major power, if they can find the time to nurture it. As ringleader Edil went into some detail on (and yes, he is a guy), humans got hit with a power up and decided to take advantage of it by laying waste to demonkind. Naturally (thanks in part to Hyura and Vamirio) it’s not that simple, and with Helck along for the ride said plan gets quickly foiled. Among other ones.

Such reveals, however, also reveal the next set of mysteries. Just who awoke this ragtag bunch and why? Does it include all humans? And what exactly does Helck know about it enough to protect his new friends? After all Vamirio has a point, if Helck knows these people what exactly is he after, or even potentially avoiding? Is the cause of this Great Awakening the reason Helck is participating in the tournament? Quite a few additional questions to figure out, which makes the ending of Vamirio (and assumingly Helck) getting whisked off to random tropical island all the more hilarious interesting.

One way or another we’re about to start finding out more concerning the outside world and how it relates to everything – and everyone – thus far. Time to see how pint-sized firebreather handles scorching tropical heat.
