「虎子相まみえる」 (Torako Aimamieru)
“Audience with Torako”
First Glance:
A new slice of life comedy comes your way on Wednesdays with four wacky girls who can’t find their way around their new school. I was a bit surprised to find that they spent the entire first episode on this lost-at-school idea, but it turned out to be a pretty good way to introduce the four main girls in the series.
First off, we have the quiet and timid Nonomura Ayumi, who’s surprisingly played by Hirano Aya. I don’t recall Aya ever playing a character like this (if we’re going to use Haruhi and Konata as comparisons), but she does a pretty good job of it — I was impressed at least. Second, we have the serious and seemingly straight-headed Iizuka Tatsuki played by Neya Michiko, who does a good job giving us those comedic reactions you’d expect from a normal person. Third, we have the quiet yet intriguing Saotome Suzume, who’s played by the less-popular Ochiai Yurika, but her character’s already grown on me the most. Last but not least, we have the over-the-top, loose-cannon star of the series, Kageyama Torako, played by Orikasa Fumiko, who I find does an awesome portrayal of such roles. She has that deep voice she uses for Rukia in BLEACH, but if you’ve seen her in Ichigo Mashimaro, you’ll probably know how much of a riot she was there. Speaking of which, Hyakko reminds me of an older (character) version of Ichigo Mashimaro, which I absolutely loved, so hopefully it’ll turn out to be a pretty good comedy this season — the first episode gives me a lot of hope. We’ll just have to see how the other 12 episodes (13 total slated) turn out.
With that said, Torako definitely drives the comedy in this series, as her sudden appearance here made everything much more hilarious, starting off with her jumping out of a second floor window and rolling her ankle. I simply couldn’t help but laugh there, much like when she totally knocked out her soon-to-be-teacher Amagasa Kyouichirou for witnessing her break a window. Supporting cast is top notch as well, with Horie Yui, Kuwashima Houko, Yoshino Hiroyuki, and Fujiwara Keiji (as Kyouichirou) being the most prominent in my eyes. Ogawa Mana also seems to have a small role, who performs the opening “Suppin Rock” song. The ending theme, “Namida Namida Namida”, is performed by Hirano Aya and sounds a lot better than some of the songs on her RIOT GIRL album. Production quality is impressive, with clean, sharp lines that make good use of high-definition, and the animation looks fluid from what I’ve seen. Even distant shots looked good, which I find is a rarity nowadays. In short, I had no complaints and was very pleased, so hopefully they can maintain this quality throughout. If they do, it looks like we might have a winner here.

1st
ohh this anime looks cool.1st!
First! hopefully…
The first episode was rather amusing. Compared to the manga, they added a few scenes in, but in a good way because they still managed to keep me laughing. I’ve been waiting for the anime for quite some time now and I’m glad that the first episode turned out to be pretty good.
Not first.
Episode is a very good start; can’t wait to see the next episode.
I’m definitely checking this out.
ill watch the ep when it comes out.
its been a while for a slice of life for me, so ill be watching this one, and from the looks of it the background art is good, which i though differently from the pv.
O_o my god the new anime’s are good to watch… ill might try watching this…
Oh, man. This looks to be a hilarious series.
*adds to watch list*
It seems I am going to add this to my watching list
This starting to look interesting since the fall list been announced. will take a peek. X3
w00t! been waiting for this one 😀 ty for the screenies *steals* lol! can’t wait for subzors *____*!! from the pic i thought aya would play the loud one xD o well~~ ahaha! cant wait =D
This is really nice animation. I might have to rethink watching it.
So far so good! This season so far is looking really solid for me. Ditto on the distant shot quality…I was actually surprised the animation turned out this good.
And I must say I absolutely love the pallet used in the background.

“First off, we have the quiet and timid Nonomura Ayumi, who’s surprisingly played by Hirano Aya. I don’t recall Aya ever playing a character like this (if we’re going to use Haruhi and Konata as comparisons)”
For quiet, Shikimi from Himawari! was on the quieter side. Hirano Aya also plays Mamori in Eyeshield, I think, so that’s also on the quieter side. This would be the first time I’ve seen her play a character who is “timid” though – she tends to be characters with a lot of self confidence. I may be missing something though, since Hirano Aya has actually done a lot of different shows.
Can’t wait to see this show.
I’ll pass on this.
I don’t really find it interesting especially with the main cast all being female and there being no seemingly solid plot.
Can’t wait to watch this…
Hirano Aya was also a “quiet” girl in Niijuu Mensou no Musume, so I guess that would be somewhat the same role here. I cannot wait to watch this as well.
Look really good. It seems that they capture the feeling of the manga well. Definitely goes up on my MUST WATCH list.
So happy this show is finally broadcasted, I really liked the manga so far and this first ep cover only one chapter @_@ (the one we could grab for free during the Comiket btw).
Can’t wait to see it, I am glad they did a so good job! ^-^
Aya Hirano as a quiet type? Now that’s a first.
I can say this is maybe Hirano Aya’s easiest role’s ever cause somehow no matter how much i hear her voice as Ayumi it really sound very close to her original voice, but seeing her not getting the funny/exciting role of the series’s character is not really that fun to watch.
i’m not so much into “slice of life” themed animes but yeah, it won’t hurt to watch a few episodes of this to see if its up to my taste. lol.
saotome suzume is my favorite girl, if it’s about looks.
i simply like the way her eyes are drawn – suba cute & smexy.
althought, she really has no lines and is quite the silent type…which on the otherhand made me dislike her 🙁 what a waaaste…ayu who got the voice of hirano is unfortunately the shy girl and they made her the narrator – oh noes !!!
i really want some more spice in her character but that won’t be the case, too bad they didn’t choose kageyama as the narrator.
I loved this episode and the baseball one should be funny as hell if the manga is any indication. shame only 2 chapters are translated even though there are 3 volumes out already. (vol. 2 seems to have some kind of implied yuri or something I can’t read japanese so I’m not sure.)
does anyone know the name of the piano melody that plays when Kageyama Torako jumps out the window
