「ジャヒー様は勝てそうもない…」 (Jahy-sama wa Katesou mo nai…)
“The Great Jahy Doesn’t Seem to Stand a Chance…”
Episode 06 of Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!explores coping with the hard times by making the most of the short moments of bliss you get. After Jahy’s hubris gets her massive mana crystal snatched away, she’s left to try to make sense of where she’s at in life.
For all of the relatable humor or relatable grief that occurs in Jahy-sama, her interaction with Kyouko in this episode was far more eccentric, for better or worse. Even when the story goes for the kick-in-the-gut direction of having Jahy lose her massive mana crystal, they placed so much emphasis on prolonging the inevitable. From dropping potted plants and microwaves to Dreamcasts and UFOs, almost every obstacle was thrown from the top of a building to stop Kyouko from coming close to her. And even then, Jahy sticks around long enough and doesn’t run away, allowing Kyouko to snatch up the stone she worked hard for.
At the same time, it shows how much of her humility still needs to come through based on how her hubris ends up being her downfall. While she still had all the power in the world to be cocky back when she was in the Dark Realm, she’s not in much of a position to distance herself away from any help she gets along the way. The Barkeep and Ryou can put up with her misplaced ego, but without their assistance, she’s stuck fending for herself in a world where she can’t quite rely on her own knowledge to survive for long.
The best part of the episode in my eyes was when Jahy and Ryou had time to drunkenly bond with one another. As Jahy was overcome with grief about how far she fell from her illustrious time in the Dark Realm, Ryou’s drunken state meshes well with hers, making it so that they wind up being a surprisingly good power duo. Had the situation been different, they could’ve definitely been the best of drinking buddies with a mutual interest in licking each other’s wounds and passionately pushing back against the adversity they face in life.
Ah did we finally reach the I Did My Best panel??
Yeah, I was getting emotionally prepared once I started seeing the beers come around, and it surely didn’t disappoint.
When the universe screams you should run away and you still refuse to that when karma comes knocking.
I loved the drunkard skit, especially barkeep being horrified at her sister and Jahy’s drunken stupor yet being unable to stop herself from taking pictures and filming the whole thing. It was amazing.
The Barkeep definitely tied the scene together by keeping herself composed and shocked despite taking video after video, picture after picture
best drinking buddies
never saw that coming
but definitely worth it
(also, yuri doujins of Jahy X Landlord inbound)
on another note, that poor magical girl when she is in her normal schoolgirl mode definitely is disaster magnet…
