“Determination”

As if reading my mind on what would be perfect to come next, Eminence in Shadow has once again decided doubling down on success is often (for a reason) the best course of action. Rose down in the dumps? Nothing a pep talk via piano cannot solve. Needing a proper final boss before the finale sendoff? Let your local cultist heads oblige in the best evil villain way possible. Oh, and don’t forget the complementary romantic competition – that never gets old. Indeed, I’m going to miss this show once it’s over.

Considering Rose’s importance to this arc and Cid’s designs upon her, I doubt anyone will be too shocked seeing her rise up to become queen after getting (quite literally at that) her face rubbed in the truth. Indeed Rose’s mother was deliberately screwing around with Perv Asshat, and yes it was purely by design given old mama wanted the satisfaction coming from being ruler herself – or in more colloquial zoomer parlance, a true thot. Honestly not that bad a twist for a fairly conventional plot line, particularly as in appropriate Eminence in Shadow fashion it got topped by Cid accidentally leaving the ring of ridiculous power where Rose could find it and the girl going all out on separating Perv’s thoughts from his capabilities. To be fair to Rose though, Perv finally finding out what happens when around sticky fingers did come close to winning this week’s gut busting contest. Almost.

As for what comes next in the close, the last bit of this episode did nicely to showcase it. Mordred, for all the hyping of super serious and powerful Cult of Diablos leader, is pretty much resigned to getting atomic’d once Cid finally engages the next round of preprepared chuuni speech lines while Rose, once coming back to her senses, is set to once again join up with Shadow Garden (just now behind the scenes rather than as a number). Couple it with Epsilon and the like getting another full display of Cid doing Cid things and I dare say we’ll have a decent finale on our hands to round out this season. Barring the inevitable cliffhanger of course.

Really sucks knowing that’ll be it for Eminence in Shadow for the next little while but hey, I don’t think it’ll be long to wait before getting the next seasonal fix. Popularity demands it.

  1. Poor Rose. She gets manipulated into murdering her own dad, joins a terrorist group, further manipulated by her own mum to marry a perverted jerk, witnessing her mum and said perverted jerk having sex while discussing their plans and does not even get the satisfaction of punishing them herself thanks to generic main badguy no. 125.
