「革命前夜」 (Kaimei Zenya)
“Revolution Eve”
As Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers starts heating up, this episode dials things down a bit to show us what life is like for Otaku Hero around the time he found the girls. But as he realizes his new responsibilities in taking care of them, he also has to weigh in exactly how much involvement he has with the war.
YOU WERE THIS CLOSE TO MENTIONING JOY DIVISION AND IAN CURTIS
I don’t have as much to say considering that it’s a relatively smooth flashback sequence. It’s currently building up towards the eventual clash between Shoban’s magical girl and the trio in the present day, but they take a quick detour from all of this in favor of the flashback scenes.
It helps to shed some light on the kind of environment that Otaku Hero had to trudge around as the otaku culture his father introduced to him is currently being targeted in a violent subjugation spree. This lends itself both to giving a general understanding of the kind of emotional attachment he has towards otaku culture and the negative environment he’d been living in as he watched friends and friends of friends dying in front of his eyes.
It seems like it’ll build more on how his life experiences shape the kinds of sacrifices and energy he’s willing to put into his fight to free the otaku of Tokyo. Likewise, the existence of the girls seems to be tied to his own personal connection with anime and mecha shows, so I’m looking forward to seeing if we’ll end up getting a revelation that alot of what’s happening is tied to his own memories.
