「来訪者編IV」 (Raihou-sha-hen IV)
“Visitor Arc IV”

Yes, that’s right, schedules don’t lie—Mahouka is indeed up for coverage. Not that it was a particularly hard decision mind you given how good I think this series is for comparison with other power trip and wish fulfillment stories, but considering it’s all Tatsuya all the time, hard denying the mind hates the heart right now. Masochism truly is a hard path to walk.

As expected last week there wasn’t much in the way of duel of the fates between Lina and Tatsuya, except not in the way I imagined. Magic Jesus taking a step back to let sisterly love prove its worth? Now that’s a new way to spice things up. And hey, we even got a technical tie out of that battle too! Mostly. For all the resigned chuckling to seeing Tatsuya just effortlessly steamroll everything in the name of story progression, I have to at least hand it to Mahouka for staying on point in terms of visuals and keeping its fights relatively unique. Also in not dumping yet more excessive magic technobabble on us while the theatrics were occurring, cannot forget that important bit too.

Otherwise outside of paint by numbers showdowns, Mahouka pretty much reverted back to familiar territory. Anyone suffering withdrawals from a lack of onii-sama probably got that small issue fixed with an abundance of Miyuki-isms guaranteed to keep the fantasies rolling, while Lina naturally started on the path to accepting Magic Jesus in her life. Even if that first step is more denial than acceptance and wholly forgets the problem of one angry sister. Given the parasite problem now turns to flushing out American military deserters you can be damn sure Lina will be having more to do with Tatsuya in the near future (just in case anyone thought she would be sidelined now), although as usual the how and when are left to mull over until next week. Will there be a second round of blondie beatdown? Will a temporary alliance be the name of the game? What happens when Tatsuya’s supercharging powers get accidentally activated six inches lower?

Best stay tuned for next episode to find out more.

  1. Anime Miyuki redeemed.

Its about time to get reminded that Godsuya is only operating at 50% of his power, with Miyuki operating at 50% as well (Yes, the 9 School Tournament features the siblings at their 50%)

At 100%, Miyuki stands up against the Sirius.

    Miyuki is scary. <3

    Dude
    1. Lina put up a good fight against Miyuki, too bad that she spent energy fighting Parasites, Tatsuya then Miyuki, how close would the outcome have been if Lina hadn’t have fought back to back.

Gotta say that the depiction of the fight is better than the novel since it was literally just a pure display of power in the Novels and no real combat.

Regarding the supercharging, I’ll put it in spoilers since i don’t think it has actually been revealed properly in the anime.

I don’t really think it has really been covered (although it has been indirectly refereed to), since the anime skipped the Reminiscence Chapter, which is for good reason mind you, but Tatsuya really wasn’t supercharging Miyuki. Just like at the end of the Yokohama Disturbance arc in the first series when Miyuki kissed him on the forehead, he release the seal on both their powers, although unlike Miyuki his release is limited due to his limited knowledge of the seal.

While the seal hasn’t been fully explained (i don’t think it has anyway), what we do know about it is that it significantly limits both Tatsuya’s and Miyuki’s powers (the strength of the seal relying on Miyuki’s powers, so if Miyuki magic is worn down then the seal weakens) and Miyuki especially has problems controlling her powers because of it (thinking of the first anime series it popped up a few times when Miyuki got angry and froze things around her).
