「弟たちへの愛が溢れてしまった…」 (Otouto-tachi e no Ai ga Afurete Shimatta…)
“Love for the Younger Brothers Poured Forth…”

Well I was certainly expecting things, just not the things we wound up getting. Baka is as baka does? Right on the money. Maids becoming sultry wives? Had that right. One brother possessing a true brother complex and another going for the double tap cliffhanger? It really never is a dull day when it comes to Hamefura.

Considering the nature of the questions left at the end of last week, it’s arguably not too shocking how things wound up turning out. Suzanna of course was the easy one, her true face was thoroughly teased at the start courtesy of high impact hugging and matters only became more obvious after the Ministry of Magic affiliations were revealed. It’s nothing critically important of course (outside of potential future plot relevance), but I’ll take a wife perfectly willing to tune out the excesses of brotherly love gone wrong any day of the week.

And speaking of husbands, colour me really surprised Jeffery wasn’t actually behind the kidnapping. While this development does make a good deal of sense given his true nature (fairly easy seeing what that initial hinting a couple episodes back was about in hindsight), it does leave me slightly disappointed he’s not cutthroat behind the scenes. Such ruthlessness would play well to what Hamefura is about at the moment – i.e. Katarina turning the convictions of the enemy into pure and wholesome dork love – by providing a suitable mid-boss for the Council (both versions) to deal with. Deals would have to be struck, investigating accomplished, and through it learning just what makes the Stuart family tick. Although I can get behind letting dark magic and its main architect be the big bad of the season, letting Jeffery just be, well, himself kind of feels like wasted opportunity. Guess we shall see.

What won’t be disappointing, however, is what happens between Geordo and Katarina next. While anyone could’ve guessed convenient amnesia helping paper over last week’s smooching (and bets are on over who accomplished that *stares at Mary*), there’s no escaping round two: Geordo has solidified his claim to the dork and the others are now firmly in the rearview mirror. Again, I don’t at all expect this to yield anything at all outside of further churning the harem crab basket, but it will at the minimum force Katarina to start considering what she wants romantically. Does she actually want to stick with Geordo? Is there anyone else who stirs the undeveloped feelings within? Those questions will at least get some debate shortly, especially when the rest of the group starts seriously vying for the fair dork’s hand.

Given everything seen to date this season, rest assured those attempts will prove mighty entertaining indeed.

  1. I think that someone else who stirs undeveloped feelings within is Nico, judging by Catarina’s reactions to him hugging her hard in the first season and when Catarina and Nico were practicing the lines of a play together. Catarina thinks that Nico bares a strong resemblance to the count in the romance novel series she and Sophia like so much, and before Geordo’s kiss, Nico was the only who could get Catarina flustered.

  2. OMG! Jeffery is a little brother-con!!! Someone call the guards!

Why are we all the sudden seeing Atsuko Sasaki, Katalina’s best friend from her original world? Something big is beyond the horizon…
